A colourless film of bacteria that gets deposited onto the tooth is known as dental plaque. This can happen when the patient ingests too much of fatty and sweetened food. It tends to give a fuzzy texture to the teeth and makes the patient feel like the teeth have not been brushed for a while. This can also be caused due to poor dental hygiene.
HOW IS DENTAL PLAQUE DIAGNOSED?
A dentist diagnoses dental plaque by examining the teeth and checking the clinical manifestations
HOW IS DENTAL PLAQUE TREATED?
The dental hygienist will clean and polish the teeth, using mini dental tools like a tooth scraper, mirror, and special toothbrush. The tooth scraper removes plaque. Maintaining a good dental care routine at home will help prevent the development of plague.
DID YOU KNOW?
Plaque is made up of invisible masses of harmful germs that live in the mouth and stick to the teeth. Some types of plaque cause tooth decay and other types of plaque cause gum disease. Red, puffy or bleeding gums can be the first signs of gum disease. If gum disease is not treated, the tissues holding the teeth in place are destroyed and the teeth are eventually lost.
