Children cough when the lining of the windpipe becomes irritated. This happens when a child is sick or when the body is fighting off an illness and making lots of mucus or phlegm. Coughing is a normal symptom of a respiratory infection, but it may be caused by other respiratory diseases.

Diagnosis of cough for kids is usually done with the stethoscope but in some serious cases if the cough is not going away - a chest X-ray might be suggested.
HOW IS COUGH IN CHILDREN TREATED?
The treatment of this condition can take place with simple paediatrician prescribed cough syrups that will help in soothing the irritants in the lining of the wind pipe. Oxygen therapy, anti histamine drugs and asthma inhaling medication can also help along with a session with a nebuliser in case symptoms like a choked nose can be seen too.
