Chronic fatigue, as the name suggests, is a long term condition that presents severe tiredness. The patients suffering from the condition have fatigue that lasts for over six months with overall body tiredness that increases with activity but does not reduce with rest. People with chronic fatigue also experience sleep difficulties with insomnia or excessive sleepiness presenting problems, mood swings, and headache along with general overall body muscle weakness as well as forgetfulness.
HOW IS CHRONIC FATIGUE DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis may be done by the general physician who will conduct a physical examination on the basis of the symptoms. One must have symptoms that do not get cured by simple bed rest or have not emanated simply as a side effect of anti histamine drugs.
HOW IS CHRONIC FATIGUE TREATED?
There is no such treatment for chronic fatigue but the condition can definitely be managed. Use of medications will helps in dealing with body tiredness. Antidepressants and sleeping pills are found to be effective here. Graded exercise and psychological counselling will help in dealing better with the chronic fatigue condition.
