A Broken Nose is also known as a nasal fracture. It occurs due to an injury to the bony part of the nose. Sports like boxing and other accidents can cause such fractures. A child may also suffer from a broken nose due to a fall.
HOW IS BROKEN NOSE DIAGNOSED?
The general practitioner will diagnose a broken nose with details of the injury and a thorough physical exam. For further diagnosis the health care practitioner may recommend X-ray, CT scan and MRI.
HOW IS BROKEN NOSE TREATED?
Treatment for a broken nose, that does not warrant emergency care, can be treated through first aid by elevating your head to reduce pain and bleeding, or by applying a cold compress. For severe nose injuries bandaging with a gauze and splint may be required. For complex nose injuries surgical treatment may be required.
DID YOU KNOW?
If a head injury or neck injury is suspected, movement should be avoided in order to prevent further damage to the nose.
