Brain injury is categorised into acquired brain injury and traumatic brain injury. An acquired brain is not hereditary, congenital, degenerative, or induced by birth trauma. It is an injury to the brain that occurs after birth. Traumatic brain injury is the state of brain dysfunction due to an external mechanical force such as motor vehicle accident, or assault. By definition, any traumatic brain injury could be considered an acquired brain injury. But, an acquired brain injury is usually non-traumatic.

HOW IS BRAIN INJURY DIAGNOSED?
Many adult injuries will not recover on their own, and early evaluation by physicians who have experience in treating these problems, is essential. Some injuries can recover with time and therapy. The time for recovery can be weeks or months.
HOW IS BRAIN INJURY TREATED?
Mild brain injuries do not require any treatment except rest and over the counter pain killers and close monitoring for any persistent or worsening of symptoms. For severe brain injuries emergency treatment followed by treatment to damaged parts of brain are carried out.
