Prior to giving electrical cardioversion, patients are temporarily put to sleep and the entire procedure is performed in OPD or an out-patient department, meaning, patients can go home once the procedure gets completed. After the procedure, the patient is monitored to ensure rhythmic heartbeat. Cardioversion treatment itself is quite a quick procedure that hardly takes a few minutes of time to be performed. However, the preparation and recovery time is pretty long and it is because of this that you should expect to stay at the hospital for about four to six hours.
