To loose weight one has to persist with a drastic reduction in the intake of carbohydrates, (specially refined sugars) and fats, increase the intake of proteins and increase the expenditure of energy by regular exercise. Starving ones self does not work for any length of time and three meals at regular times, eaten slowly is the best method. Avoid snacking between meals, have a good breakfast, moderate lunch and a light dinner. The foods to avoid are sugars, or anything that contains sugar and fat such as bakery products, ice creams, desserts, fried foods (like pranthe, pakore, puris) pizza and potatoes. Rice can be replaced with two chapattis made of multi grain atta. To fill your stomach one should take lots of fruits (papaya, apples, guava) and green vegetables (cucumber, ghia, laoki, teenda, and tori) and sprouted dal. Milk should be double toned. Your protein intake should be increased by taking egg white, grilled / steamed fish or chicken made in small amounts of olive / sunflower oil. Vegetarians can use soya bean dal, nutri nuggets, tofu and cottage cheese made from double tone milk. Go for a run or walk for an hour every day.

Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules.   1. Indigestion : Take one spoon Harde Powder with water in morning and bed time.
    Diarrhoea : take one spoon dry ginger powder with buttermilk every two hours and stop to intake any food for some time. You can add Cumin(jira) powder in it too.
    Insomnia : In sleep problem take one spoon Piparimool ( Root of Long pepper) with buffalo milk at bed time.
    Acidity : In this problem have to take two grams of Amla powder empty stomach with water in morning and two grams at bed time with water. Avoid Oily, Spicy, stale and fermented food like pickles too.

When you do extra exercise, protein helps to build and maintain extra muscles. But if you do less exercise, and eat more proteins, the extra calories will get converted into fat and get stored in your body. The bottomline to understand is that - Muscles are built by exercise and supported by food... Merely eating extra proteins does not build muscles. All extra food will turn into fat.

Eat 25% less calories. Run for 10 minutes daily. Do kapalbhati for 5minutrs, daily. Do 30 crunches daily. You can not target just one area, other parts will obviously become firm as well.

How much water we can have per day. Because I am utilizing 3.0 liters of water per day except other liquids. But once or twice I am getting pure honey colored urine in the middle of the day. Is it a problem or still I need to take some more water?

You should be intake 5 to 7 lit. Water daily in 24 hours for avoiding dehydration. Colour of urine may by less water intake or any urinal infection. Pl. Drink more water and go for test. Urine r/m, blood sugar.

Focus on your diet: you really need to focus on your diet. When losing weight, many people feel that it is okay to eat what you want and then workout a lot. This is completely incorrect. Combine your diet with good physical activity. As you exercise, calories are burned and your body fat percentage decreases. During pregnancy, I've put on 26 kgs. Had my delivery in February this year. I'm keen on reducing weight and getting back to shape but elders in the family strictly advise not to do any sort of exercise till 6 months of delivery. However, my gynec suggests to start workout asap. I'm really confused. Please help.

You have not detailed your current body weight and height and blood pressure here. Please do morning walk (brisk-walking)/ treadmill/swimming for at least 60 minutes daily - which ever is possible for you. Keep moving as much as you can whenever you can. Keep meal portions small especially if they’re cooked. Limit your food intake which SHOULD be and ONLY be 4 times a day (but this should be a balance one). Remember what you eat is directly going to affect your new born if you are breast feeding him. Do never skip meals. Take a heavy breakfast. Avoid sedentary life/night watching/junk foods. The best way to burn more calories is to build muscle through resistance training. For each pound of muscle that you gain, you burn approximately 50-70 calories in addition per day (5 pounds of muscle gain equates to burning 250-350 calories a day!) Please follow the above for next 4 weeks and revert for further treatment.

Hye, thanks for the query. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - the sugar levels will fluctuate depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress levels and activity levels. You have to try and manage a balanced carb intake. Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. You have to eat 3 main and 3 mid meals. Your diet must include whole grains, seasonal fruits, vegetables, small amounts of nuts and dairy and pulses or dals or lean meats like chicken or fish and egg. Starchy vegetables need to be planned into the diet. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Avoid exercise if sugar levels are above 250 mg/dl. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

Do I have Diabetes or Liver Cirrhosis am I going to be too ill can I ever recover? My old parent's depend on me.

Mr. Lybrate-user, looking at your height and weight you have a bmi of 32.14 kg / m2, signifying grade 1 obesity. High levels of liver enzymes may be due to being obese. There is possibility of non alcoholic fatty liver. (provided you do not indulge in alcoholic drinks). As regards the blood glucose levels & hba1c% it is clear that you have t2 diabetes. Cirrhosis of liver is a disease that occurs very late in the course of liver conditions. Now the remedy is to reduce weight (ideal body weight = 67 kgs). That will help you control both the conditions fairly rapidly and quite well. You need to look at your diet and daily food intake, plus exercise at least 1 hour a day. Plus avoid smoking and alcohol completely. (if indulged). Do not panic at all. You can remain absolutely fit and healthy by taking few simple corrective steps as mentioned above. Thanks.
