Hyperhidrosis - Making Summer Miserable

DVDL, MBBS
Dermatologist, Delhi
Hyperhidrosis - Making Summer Miserable

Sweating is a normal function of the body, but some people sweat so much that their clothes are often drenched in sweat. Hyperhidrosis is a condition where the amount of sweat produced by the sweat glands cannot be regulated. It is characterized by excessive sweating commonly seen in the underarms, palms and soles. This disorder can affect a person at any age and if left untreated, can become a lifelong condition. Though this condition is not a serious threat to your health, it can be quite embarrassing and can hamper your lifestyle.

In many cases, there is no obvious trigger for Hyperhidrosis, and it is caused by the malfunctioning of the nervous system. This is known as primary Hyperhidrosis. Sweat is a function which helps the body cool itself. In cases of primary Hyperhidrosis, the brain sends a message to the sweat glands to produce sweat even though the body does not need to be cooled. A genetic mutation may also be the cause for some cases of Hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis with obvious trigger factors is known as secondary Hyperhidrosis. While primary Hyperhidrosis mostly affects the underarms, groin, palms and soles, secondary Hyperhidrosis can affect all parts of the body. Some of the common triggers for this condition are:

  1. Pregnancy
  2. Menopause
  3. Anxiety
  4. Low blood sugar
  5. Hyperthyroidism
  6. Medication side effects
  7. Alcohol or drug withdrawal
  8. Parkinson's disease

Hyperhidrosis can be challenging to diagnose and treat. Lifestyle changes are the easiest way to address this disorder. Some changes that can help you fight Hyperhidrosis are:

  1. Avoid spicy food and alcohol
  2. Replace deodorants with antiperspirants
  3. Choose cotton fabrics over synthetic fabrics
  4. Wear loose fitting clothes.
  5. Try using armpit shields and wearing absorbent socks.

Anticholinergic or antimuscarinic medicines can also help treat Hyperhidrosis. This keeps the nervous system from activating the sweat glands. Dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, abdominal cramps and difficulty in passing urine are some of the side effects associated with this medication. Iontophoresis is a more aggressive form of Hyperhidrosis treatment. This involves passing a weak electric current through a wet pad to the affected area to block the sweat glands. It is usually used to treat excessive sweating in the palms and soles.

Botox injections can also help treat Hyperhidrosis by blocking the brain signals to the sweat glands. However this is not a permanent cure and may need to be repeated after a year or so. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy or a surgery to remove the sweat glands may also be recommended in extreme cases of Hyperhidrosis. This is usually seen as a permanent solution for excessive sweating, but are relatively new procedures and hence not very common.

Just exercising in gym will not work for weight gain. You will have to increase your eating capacity slowly. Increase your protein intake. If you go for gym then have bananas before 30 mins of exercise and whey protein immediately after exercise to repair the muscles. Consult with me for a personalised diet plan with results.

Hello, Homoeopathic medicines are less invasive and have more herbal approach towards gaining the weight. There are a number of homoeopathic medicines, which treat the root cause behind the body’s inability to gain weight or bulk up. 1. Take alfalfa tonic (wsi), 2 – 2 tsp. Thrice a day, half an hour before meals. 2. Calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, once in aweek, morning empty stomach for 2 weeks. 3. Take eggs, milk, butter, bananas, potatoes, mangoes, figs, oats, soyabean and dry fruits. 4. Do light exercises regularly to keep your body active. These homoeopathic medicines and dietary addition will increase your appetite and give your metabolism a healthy boost.

Do regular exercise and streching. For increasing weight and height best natural way is start doing surya namskar in morning. Take 2 banana with warm milk in the morning. Eat soaked dry grapes or dates soaked in warm milk overnight. Include protein rich food in your diet. No drink before and with meals. If you are non vegetarian include eggs chicken and fish in your diet. Take small and frequent meals instead of 3 big meals. You can consult me privately online on lybrate i" ll give you diet chart.

This is known as vasovagal syncope or postural hypotension. All you can do is some stretching in bed before getting out of bed. Check your haemoglobin, bp and sugar levels. I hope all will be ok. Nothing to worry if these stats are ok.

. If you masturbate frequently because you feel lonely, find ways to be as socially engaged as possible. This means that you should join as many clubs or activities as you can, accept and give more invitations to people, and go out of your way to make more friends. If you want to date someone, consider asking a friend to set you up or join an online dating site. •Another thing you can do is to limit the times when you are likely to be home alone. If you tend to masturbate in the hour or two before your parents get home from work, go for a walk during that time, or do your homework in a coffee shop. •Even if all of your friends are busy, you can still limit your impulse to masturbate by going out in public. For instance, instead of watching the game at home by yourself, watch it at a sports bar. Even if you're not hanging out with friends, you will not be alone, ultimately having no time for masturbation. Stop watching porn on your computer.

Find it difficult to put on weight, can you help me out?

Diploma in Diabetology, Master of Hospital Administration, MBBS
General Physician,
Find it difficult to put on weight, can you help me out?
Our weight should be proportionate to our height. For every given height there is a normal weight range. You must do several things correctly to gain weight. A healthy diet: this is the foundation of gaining weight. If you don't do this right, the other things you do won't be effective and could even be harmful. Follow the following tips:- · Pay attention to your health and food intake. · To increase your appetite, have a glass of lime water or 1 cardamom (elaichi) before your meal. · Have minimum 4 meals in a day. · Drink 1 glass of milk twice a day. · Try to enjoy your meals and gradually increase the quantity you eat every time. · A balance diet should have all essential nutrients in it. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It should include combination of Both Carbohydrates and Proteins for e.g. Oats with Milk or Poha/ Upma with a glass of milk. If you do not like milk have 1-2 egg whites in the morning along with your breakfast. · You need to focus on your protein intake : Increase your protein intake e.g. milk, dairy products- cheese, paneer, lentils (dals), nuts ( soya, peanuts, dry fruits ), pulses e.g. rajma, chole, kidney beans etc. sprouts. If you are a non-vegetarian, then you can have proteins by also eating eggs, chicken, fish. Make sure you are including at least 2 serving of any of these in your daily meal. · Lunch and dinner again should be a combination of Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats which could have dal, roti, sabji/chicken, salad. · Please do have minimum 4 almonds or a small bowl of peanuts every day. · Please ensure that you drink at least 3 litres of water every day.

You need to have a diet and exercise plan based on your bmi, age & weight and sex, presence of any diseases. There are exercises specific for each part of body like hips, thighs or abdomen. Comprehensive exercise & diet plan based on whether vegetarian /non vegetarian can be given. May also need to do some tests. In brief, weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/4 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests.

Hi lybrate-user Super slimming tips 1. Think thin Think yourself fit and in shape. Positive thought has amazing results! When positive thinking penetrates your mind it helps you attain your goal instead of putting spokes in the wheel of success. 2. When tempted to indulge, go brush your teeth When your mind is about to give in to temptation, go brush your teeth. It works wonders and your craving would have passed. 3. Sip soup for super slimming Make yourself soup of mixed veggies, greens or lentil. Soup is naturally filling and nourishing, eat it before mealtimes to decrease your overall calorie intake. 4. Never finish the leftovers Don’t treat each meal, as it is your last supper. Refrigerate or distribute leftovers. Ask naturally slim people what they eat and you will get a consistent answer. They eat when they are hungry and stop when they have had enough. 5. Fuel right If you want a sense of well-being and energy, fuel your body right so it performs well. The body has an internal clock and the metabolism is regulated by regular cycles. If you learn to respect these cycles slimming will be easier. 6. Never shop for food when you are hungry The surest way of going off your diet is to go to the supermarket when you are hungry. You will be tempted by the goodies available. Eat before you shop. Filling your trolley with indulgences is likely to happen on an empty stomach. 7. Learn the art of savouring food If you eat slowly you’ll savour your food and relish your meal. Eating slowly not only helps to digest food better, but also prevents overeating. 8. Be assertive Be firm with yourself. When you are about to give in to a craving be assertive and let your mind obey. 9. Plan ahead Do you tend to eat when you are bored or feeling low? Plan ahead. Think of a new stimulation, a new goal or a new sense of achievement. 10. For fast fat burning, pick up a pair of weights Weight training builds muscle and raises your metabolism. Weight train thrice a week and do cardiovascular exercises the other three days to burn calories. 11. Separate food from television You tend to eat mindlessly when you watch television. Whether it is junk or health food that you eat, you should always be fully aware of what and how much goes into your system. 12. Make smart food choices Eat nutritious foods. Choose wholesome foods instead of packaged, refined foods. Be creative in your choices so that the food you eat is tasty as well as low in calories. 13. Eat fiber Fibre fills you up and helps you lose weight. Good choices are veggies, fruits, whole grain cereals, unpolished rice and whole grain bread. 14. Keep an apple with you always You cannot predict hunger so always make sure you have a healthy snack accessible. 15. Take exercise breaks Take exercise breaks, regularly. You could stretch mid-morning, or take a walk at lunchtime, or climb up and down stairs when you are stressed. 16. Think before you drink When you drink, know you are consuming empty calories. If you wish to drink occasionally, add some more exercise that day. 17. Hydrate yourself Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Also eat high water content foods that will help you lose weight. Examples are watermelon, oranges, pineapples, tomatoes, and cucumber. 18. Take pride in your efforts Feel good about the efforts you make. Never say, “I’ve started to exercise, but so far I have lost only two pounds”, instead say, “I feel great after losing two pounds, now I am inspired to continue exercising”. 19. Find an exercise trainer or a workout buddy Find someone who will inspire, motivate and encourage you to workout regularly. 20. Schedule “workout” in your daily planner Make exercise an important commitment and write it down in your planner so that you are more likely to keep the “appointment”. It is also a good idea to keep tabs on your workout progress so that you are motivated to continue exercising.
