I am 33 years old n having toothache in wisdom tooth. Dr. advised me for root canal treatment or extraction of tooth. What is best.

BDS, MDS - Periodontics, Ph.D.
Dentist, Pune
Depends on case to case. Simple, if it is 'Verticle' and if there is an opposing-teeth get RCT done, if it is angulated and opposing is missing get it extracted.

I am 57 years age suffering from Diabetic and BP but both are under control. I have this problem since last 5 years. As I contacted Dentist regarding lower jaw. They suggest me remove all for implant of 06 tooth is it ok the cost is worrying me Is it ok for Diabetic and BP patient.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
The purpose of the present study was twofold: (1) to investigate how many diabetic patients and types of cases that are treated with dental implants in our clinic; and (2) assess the outcome of such treatment. Medical records from 782 patients were examined in patients treated by the Brånemark method for partial or total edentulism with implant supported bridges. From these records, 25 patients (3.2%) with diabetes before implant treatment (136 implants) were identified and further studied with respect to age, gender, type of diabetes, treated jaw, degree of edentulism, bone graft, implant survival, periimplant inflammation, bleeding on probing, and radiographic bone loss. Furthermore, the patients' opinion about the outcome of the treatment was registered. The implant success rate was 96.3% during the healing period and 94.1% 1 year after surgery. Of all 38 bridges, one was lost. Few complications occurred and all patients, except for one, were satisfied with the treatment. Today, diabetic patients are being treated successfully for all types of edentulism, including bone-grafting treatment. Diabetics that undergo dental implant treatment do not encounter a higher failure rate than the normal population, if the diabetics' plasma glucose level is normal or close to normal as assessed by personal interviews.

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
If the tooth crack is more and it is present in between the teeth if 3/4 th area is lost than it should be removed if it is less than 3/4th area then it can be treated with root canal treatment and crown is placed on it for protection.

I'm facing cavities issue. It is mostly due to less saliva generation in the mouth. I had previously consulted one doctor and he just confirmed it but had no solution for it. I do not smoke or chew tobacco. I've no other disease or under any medication. I was NEVER treated with chemo. As far as I remember I'm facing this issue from at last 7 yrs. Do you have any suggestion on this? PS- I do take good care of oral hygiene (brush 2ce, floss, mouthwash - non-alcoholic)

BDS, Certified Endodontics
Dentist, Delhi
Hello lybrate-user, thanks for your query. Well you seems to be suffering from condition known as xerostomia in which there is reduced salivary flow which in turn causes other proplems like cavities. Well there are salivary substitutes in market easily available in chemist shop. They help you to maintain proper hydration of your mouth. In addition to that you can counteract this condition by altering your diet. Eat lot of friuts drink good amount of water and avoid anything very spicy and alcoholic. I hope this would help you. Thanks and regards.

Hi, please do not ignore if there is pain in tooth often. Get your dental checkup done from your dentist. Sometimes its just sensitivity because the decay of tooth is in initial stages that can be restored with normal tooth filling.

Hi, My wife is pregnant and facing a problem of Saliva in mouth continuously. It's big irritation matter for her to take a good sleep because she has to go to washroom due to saliva in mouth continuously. What is the cause of this and also advise some solution for this.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Its not known what causes some women to have excessive salivation in early pregnancy, but hormonal changes may be a culprit. Also, nausea might make some women try to swallow less, causing saliva to build up in the mouth. Following measures are helpful: brush your teeth and use mouthwash several times a day. Eat frequent, small, well-balanced meals, and avoid excessive amounts of starchy food. Drink plenty of water. Keep a water bottle handy and take frequent small sips. Suck on hard candy or chew sugarless gum. This won't make you produce less saliva, but it will make it easier for you to swallow the saliva you do produce. Avoid sour candies and gum, as they can stimulate saliva production.

Flossing of Teeth

Flossing of Teeth

Flossing is as important as brushing on a daily basis. Taking the floss all the way down to the point where the teeth and gums meet is the appropriate way of doing it.

I have a cavity in my teeth. How to cure this Cavity? But I know "It is initial stage" I do clean my teeth twice in everyday. Have a problem my brush or Paste? Please give me a proper advise.

PGDHHM, BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Get the cavity filled as soon as possible. It is better to get a cavity in teeth filled in early stages, rather than waiting for decay to spread deeper. For prevention of cavities brush regularly twice daily morning and at night. Eat healthy balanced diet with plenty of fiber .fruits and vegetables.

My teeth is yellow. I want to clean but not been done. Please tell me what should I do?

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Here is home remedy for brighter teeth--- mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel. If you are using just water you can leave it on for up to 3 minutes. For faster result you can go for teeth bleaching from dentist.

Hormonal changes in women increase senitivity and may also lead to the occurance of gingivitis.

Sir, I often have dry mouth accompanied with bad breath. I had used colgate plax mouthwash but it seems to not work. Can you suggest me some home remedies to get rid of this?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. Drink plenty of water. For dry mouth, consider chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free candies to help stimulate salivary flow. There also are artificial saliva’s on the market that may help to induce salivation. Sialogogues (Pilocarpine 30 mg/day. Contraindications - include many lung conditions, such as asthma, cardiac problems, epilepsy and Parkinson's disease). Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.
