General Physician,
Gestational hypertension leads to 57% increased risk of calcification

Gestational hypertension normally resolves following birth, and blood pressure returns to normal. But women with elevated blood pressure during pregnancy are at higher risk of hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease later in life. Sabour and colleagues evaluated 491 healthy postmenopausal women selected from participants enrolled in the PROSPECT (Predictors of Response to Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy) study from 1993?1997. Women with a history of gestational hypertension had an almost 60% increased risk of having coronary calcification several decades later compared with women who had normal blood pressure during pregnancy. The relationship held for women who had mild elevations in blood pressure during pregnancy as well as for those who developed preeclampsia ? a more serious complication of pregnancy characterized by very high blood pressure, edema, and risk of organ damage.

If I am a Prediabetic, can I avoid diabetes by taking proper care or is it inevitable now?
Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Losing Extra Weight:-The most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health is to lose your extra weight. This will not only lower your blood pressure but also helps lowering your cholesterol too. For woman: waist of 80 cm or more & for man: waist of 90 cm or more are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :-the timings at which you have your meals should be set fixed and at regular intervals each day. This will considerably improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Splitting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair and consistent amount , improves your metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-There should be no long gaps between meals. Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time .Try to have moderate amount of food each time u eat. It will help maintain your blood sugar at a healthy level and won’t let it to fluctuate. Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is very important and a fast way to trim down calories, extra weight and controlling glucose level. Brisk walking for 30 min. atleast five times a week is the best and easiest way of exercising. You can also try Cycling, swimming, dancing. Timings for exercise should be fixed and regular. Avoid heavy exercise. Do not eat right away after a workout . 7-constant and regular timings for medication 8-Avoid fried foods and meat: Limit fats and sweets. Rather choose a variety of foods including whole grains, fresh vegetables, salads, fruits, low fat dairy products. 9- Take high-fibre and complex carbohydrates:-like oats as they are easily broken down to basic sugars. Add whole grain foods in your diet. Avoid carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks .Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran, flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheat flour. This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated. Drink a lot of water that will help flush the toxins off your system. 11.Fresh vegetables and fruits:- gives essential benefits as these contain a lot of vital minerals as well as nutrients .Include sprouts in the diet as they are easily digestible and a rich source of nutrients. 12- Avoid excess salt:-in form of pickles/papads etc. 1 tsp(5 gm)is sufficient for a healthy hypertensive individual. 13-Avoid alcohol consumption:-Alcohols such as beer and wine contains large amount of calories. choose sugar-free drink. 14- dairy products :-Dairy products are high on fat content such as cheese, curd, milk etc. So instead consume skimmed milk products , low fat cheese, yogurt (curd) etc. Do not have more than two cups of tea or coffee every day. Losing weight and keeping it off, is not an easy task and often we are frustrated by failed attempts at doing so. The cause of such failure, mostly, is not making the attempt in a comprehensive and disciplined manner. A comprehensive lifestyle modification program for weight loss not only helps you lose weight but also leads to significant betterment of blood sugar, lipids, bp levels etc. And thus reduces your health risks of diabetes and cvd but also make you feel more in control of your life. Therefore, if you have not been able to lose weight on your own, should consider getting into one of these. The components of such a program should be the following: diet modification and calorie restriction: the diet plan you should follow should be driven by the following principles: it should be aligned to your eating preferences in terms of food and frequency of eating, as much as possible ; no diet plan (low fat or low carb, 4-5 meals a day or more or less frequent meals etc.) has been prov.

Hi sir, I am a diabetic patient, can I have 3 re times a day using fenugreek seeds?
Mr. lybrate-user, Fenugreek seeds contain a good amount of fiber, which helps in slowing down carbohydrate absorption. So taking thsese seeds is helpful. But whether there is direct reduction in blood glucose and how much, is difficult to say. Thanks.

Hi , 1.Eat a lot of non-starchy vegetables, beans, and fruits such as apples, pears, peaches, and berries. 2.Even tropical fruits like bananas, mangoes, and papayas tend to have a lower glycemic index than typical desserts 3.Eat grains in the least-processed state possible: “unbroken,” such as whole-kernel bread, brown rice, and whole barley, millet. 4.Limit white potatoes and refined grain products to small side dishes. 5.Limit concentrated sweets—including high-calorie foods with a low glycemic index, such as ice cream—to occasional treats. Eliminate sugar-sweetened drinks. 6.Eat a healthful type of protein at most meals, such as beans, fish, or skinless chicken.Choose foods with healthful fats, such as olive oil, nuts (almonds, walnuts), and avocados. 7.Limit saturated fats from dairy and other animal products. Completely eliminate partially hydrogenated fats (trans fats), which are in fast food and many packaged foods. 8.Have three meals and one or two snacks each day, and don’t skip breakfast. 9.Eat slowly and stop when full

Is dates good in diabetes can I eat date I have fluctuation in sugar level sometimes 250.

Is dates good in diabetes can I eat date I have fluctuation in sugar level sometimes 250.
Hi Dates are rich source of fibre, so helps in digestion. It also has many minerals like calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, potassium, magnesium and also copper. It has a low glycaemic index and hence is diabetic friendly if taken in the right quantity and frequency. If your blood sugar is 250 only occasionally then I suggest you can have 1 or 2 fresh dates two to three times a week making sure your blood sugars are within the normal range.

A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Take tab. Bencid 500 mg once a day. Tab.
