Dear sir, I am 25 years old, I am pregnant currently 4th month is running actually my problem is when I am pressing my breast some white liquid is coming from my nipples. I told to my doctor she is saying its a normal. Problem but some body is saying it is dangerous could you please suggest me in these regards.

MBBS, DNB - Obstetrics & Gynecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Hi lybrate-user white liquid coming from your breast is most probably milk. If milk is coming when female is not pregnant or breast feeding, its dangerous. But if female is pregnant then her body is preparing her to feed the coming baby which is normal. So in your case milk discharge is normal but you should not press your breast otherwise it will increase and get infected. U need no treatment.

I get period only for 1 or 2 days I consulted a doctor regarding about it and he told me that it is due to swelling in the bladder may I knw the actual reason behind it?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Swelling in the bladder is not responsible for this. As this has happened for the first time there is no need of any treatment or any tests. /this occurs because of hormonal changes or stress or weight gain also. This is temporary and next menses will be normal. I hope there is no issue of pregnancy here.

There is a chance of spreading of infection...To avoid it you can both maintain a good oral and general hygiene Use mouth wash and hand sanitizer before the act. And she should too maintain her pubic hygeine

I have heard that alum helps in the case of vagina's oversize and loosening due to rough and heavy sex on regular basis is it true? Please suggest me any sort of common cream, ointment, or Medicine available in the market?

Dear user. I can understand. You are just 19. At your age, the elasticity of vaginal opening will be maximum and there will not be any question of loosening the vaginal opening even if you do sex thrice daily continuously for 10 years. Therefore do not worry about unnecessary things and concentrate on your education. Take care.

Eat Healthy & Stay Fertile!

MBBS, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Kanpur
Eat Healthy & Stay Fertile!

According to a recent study of fertility and diet conducted by the Harvard Medical School, it has been revealed that consuming certain foods and abstaining from some can be easily opted for without any external intervention in order to aid in improving the ovulatory system, even though there are factors that you are unable to control, such as genetics and age. It is important to be aware of the small dietary changes that can potentially make you much more fertile than those who do not go for a healthy diet.

  1. Go for complex carbohydrates: Experts suggest eating more of slow and complex carbohydrates and restricting the consumption of processed ones. Your body is able to digest bad carbohydrates in order to turn them into blood sugar, which is harmful to the body. So you must stay away from cakes and cookies, white breads, white rice, junk food and all such items that appear unsurpassable. It is because the pancreas are compelled to release an additional amount of insulin into the blood for controlling the blood-sugar spike. On the other hand, you can go for good carbohydrates, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, which take time to digest and have a much slower effect on the insulin and blood sugar. It is evident that high levels of insulin can inhibit the process of ovulation.
  2. Choose Iron-Rich Foods:  A diet rich in iron that comes from vegetables and supplements may lower the risk of ovulatory infertility. Ovulatory infertility is only one cause of infertility and affects 25 percent of infertile couples. Vegetarian foods with iron include all types of beans, eggs, lentils, spinach, fortified cereals, long-grain enriched rice and whole grains. Add vitamin C from citrus fruits, bell peppers or berries to your meals to enhance iron absorption.

  3. The "Fertility Diet":  Women should choose the following "fertility diet" -

    • Less animal protein and more vegetable protein
    • Less trans fat and more monounsaturated fat (from foods such as avocados and olive oil)
    • More high-fiber, low-glycemic carbohydrate-rich foods (including whole grains)
    • More vegetarian sources of iron and fewer meat sources
    • Multivitamins
    • High-fat dairy instead of low-fat dairy
  4. Get enough folic acid: Folic acid has been proven to reduce a baby's risk of neural-tube birth defects such as spina bifida, and it is linked to a lower incidence of heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and diabetes. A good over-the-counter prenatal vitamin should contain more than the minimum recommendation of folic acid, between 600 and 800 mcg – what you'll need during pregnancy. In addition, you can eat folate-rich foods, such as dark green leafy vegetables like spinach or kale, citrus fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains, and fortified breads and cereals.
  5. Dairy: It pays to bone up on dairy (milk, yogurt, and cheese) when you’re trying to conceive. Adding dairy to your preconception diet is good not only for bone health but also — potentially — for your reproductive health. So drink that milk, spoon up that yogurt, sip that smoothie, nibble on that cheese. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

If pregnancy test is negative then you are not pregnant. These medicines only help to regularise the periods and it takes time for hormones to become balanced.

Hi doctor, I have pcos. I used to have krimson tabs but stopped from 2 years as planning for kid. But not able to conceive now it's been 45 days did not get my date and pregnancy test is also negative.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Hello, PCOS or pcod s a problem in which a woman's hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with your periods and make it difficult to get pregnant. PCOS also may cause unwanted changes in the way you look. If it isn't treated, over time it can lead to serious health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. The most common symptoms are: Acne.Weight gain and trouble losing weight.Extra hair on the face and body.Thinning hair or even hair loss on scalp.Irregular periods. Often women with PCOS have fewer than nine periods a year. Some women have no periods. Others have very heavy bleeding.Fertility problems. Many women who have PCOS have trouble getting pregnant(infertility), depression. Regular exercise, healthy foods, and weight control are the key treatments for PCOS. Treatment (hormonal) can reduce unpleasant symptoms and help prevent long-term health problems. Try to fit in moderate activity and/or vigorous activity often. Brisk Walking, jogging, dance or aerobics are great exercise that most people can do.Eat heart-healthy foods. This includes lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. It limits foods that are high insaturated fat, such as meats, cheeses, and fried foods. Most women who have PCOS can benefit from losing weight. Even losing 5kg may help get your hormones in balance, regulate your menstrual cycle and can make you ovulate.

I am 16yrs old female, I am missing my periods from last 15 days, not an issue of pregnancy, what should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, first get pregnancy test done in case you have active sexual life and if the pregnancy test is negative, then will have to rule out any other problem as there are many causes of irregular menses apart from pregnancy - nutritional deficiency, pcos, stress/ tension, excessive exertion, any other or recent medical condition, side effect of any medication, hormonal imbalance, etc. So, take her to a gynaecologist for examination and required investigation for coming to the final diagnosis and treatment.
