I am discussing about my mother's problem. She is suffering from the waist pain. Sometimes this pain increases so much that she can not do any work and simply go to lie in the bed. Please help me for this problem. We have consult our local doctor. He said that its a symptom of spondylitis. Is it true? What should she do for this? Please help.

Orthopedist, Delhi
I would like to examine your mother in detail & investigate. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid, vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomentation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Bio d3 max 1 tab od x10. Do back, & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that you are not allergic to any of the medicines that she is going to take. For emergency treatment contact your nearest hospital or family doctor. If it does not give relief in 4-5 days

Is there any treatment for spino muscular atrophy? How many type of muscular dystrophy and Can muscular dystrophy cure?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT

Is there any treatment for spino muscular atrophy? How many type of muscular dystrophy and
Can muscular dystrophy cure?
There is no cure for any form of muscular dystrophy, but medications and therapy can slow the course of the disease. There are nine major forms of muscular dystrophy: myotonic duchenne becker limb-girdle facioscapulohumeral congenital oculopharyngeal distal emery-dreifuss supportive treatment should be aimed at improving the patients' quality of life and minimizing disability, particularly in patients with slow progression. The goals are to maximize the patient's independence and quality of life at each stage of the disease. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and rehabilitation may help to improve posture, prevent joint immobility, and slow muscle weakness and atrophy. Stretching and strengthening exercises may help reduce spasticity, increase range of motion, and keeps circulation flowing. Some individuals require additional therapy for speech, chewing, and swallowing difficulties. Applying heat may relieve muscle pain. Assistive devices such as supports or braces, orthotics, speech synthesizers, and wheelchairs may help some people retain independence. Proper nutrition and a balanced diet are essential to maintaining weight and strength. People who cannot chew or swallow may require insertion of a feeding tube. Non-invasive ventilation at night can prevent apnea in sleep, and some individuals may also require assisted ventilation due to muscle weakness in the neck, throat, and chest during daytime.

Neck massage will give good results. Use little good oil or plain water and massage from either side on the mid shoulder blade. Use your thumbs and move it slowly upwards on the back of neck up to the lower level of ear. Repeat 5 to 10 times. Do not do from top to down. Finally move your neck up and down, sideways left and right. Results are excellent. Pl ask somebody to massage your spinal column from neck down upto sacral bone using both hands ie both thumbs on one side other fingers on other side do only from neck and not from sacral to the neck. Yo can also use a wooden roller purchased from a accupressure items shop.

Seems neuropathy has taken over. You have to be under proper medical care and switching med. Immediately will not help. However keeping age factor and complications in mind we may suggest supporting ayd herbs those may be taken parallel to present regime. If it responds and gives relief in about 1. 5 to 2 months, we make advise further. For advise please furnish present lab reports and other complications if any.
