Dear Sir /Madam, My daughter is 5 months old. Last few days her foot (lower portion) and palms are turning red frequently for 15 to 20 minutes after which it is getting normal. We also noticed the same in her forehead. These things are happening most in the night before sleeping. Is anything serious in it? When consulted with doctor, he told that my daughter has low hemoglobin (12. 2 gm%) for which she is taking medicine now. Is it the reason for which she is getting this problem. Please clarify & suggest what need to be done. I'm very worried for my daughter's health.

Hb can't be reason for this change. If baby is active n taking normal feed there is no cause of worry. Since doctor has already examined n observed no problem I suppose redness may be due to atmospheric change of temperature and/or feeding before sleep.

Firstly you need to find out the cause of bleeding from nose. There are various minor to major causes of bleeding from nose. So accordingly we can plan further line of treatment. Food has no relation with bleeding from nose.

My daughter age of just 02 months and she suffer of shorter breastmilk of her mother. So I ask you what food best of my daughter?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

The baby should get breast milk at least for 6 months. Mother should eat nutritious diet and take enough milk. She should also try to keep anxiety away. This should ensure enough milk supply. She should also feed the baby more often.

Causes of Eczema

MBBS, DDV
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Causes of Eczema

Causes of Eczema:

The specific cause of eczema remains unknown, but it is believed to develop due to a combination of hereditary (genetic) and environmental factors.

Children are more likely to develop eczema if a parent has had it or another atopic disease. If both parents have an atopic disease, the chances increase further.

Environmental factors are also known to bring out the symptoms of eczema. These include:

  • Irritants - soaps, detergents, shampoos, disinfectants, juices from fresh fruits, meats, or vegetables
  • Allergens - dust mites, pets, pollens, molddandruff
  •  Microbes - bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, viruses, certain fungi
  • Hot and cold temperatures - hot weather, high and low humidity, perspiration from exercise
  • Foods - dairy products, eggs, nuts and seeds, soy products, wheat
  • Stress - it is not a cause of eczema but can make symptoms worse
  • Hormones - women can experience worsening of eczema symptoms at times when their hormone levels are changing, for example during pregnancy and at certain points in their menstrual cycle.

Human beings have a circadian rhythm of sleep. If it's altered happens like this. You must restrict his addiction to video games. Sometimes excessive video watching and sleep deprivation may result in fits.

My 6 years old son is suffering from stomach pain for last 1 year. The pain occurs once or twice every day for 2 - 5 minutes and automatically get cured. We have done all types of blood testing, mantu test, usg of whole abdomen, x ray but every reports are normal. Doctors prescribe only anti allergy medicines but of no help. Please suggest what to do.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
Hello thanks for the query I would like to know if there is any headache or visual disturbances associated with abdominal pain. If all the investigations are normal and the pain abdomen is not hampering the daily activity, there is no loss of appetite, no weight loss, not disturbing night sleep, not associated with vomiting or loose stool I won't get overly worried. There is a condition called recurrent pain abdomen which is a common cause in this age group and does not need any specific management. It improves as the child grows. Give antispasmodic for symptomatic relief.

As per your daughter's weight 6.6 kg, for fever she needs around 100 mg of calpol and if fever did not reduce then meftal should be 26 mg. Both doses are high and interval is less. Please give her plenty of water and ors at least 330 ml in next 4 hrs. Keep a gap of 4 - 6 hrs between doses.

My son is 5 year old. When he speaks, we feel some mucus is stuck behind his nose and when we blow nothing comes out. His one nostril is always blocked and he gets dry cough often. Please suggest good remedy for this ?

Pediatrician, Pune
His one nostril is always blocked, kindly get evaluated by ent surgeon, you never know these children can put anything in the nose, rule out any foreign body that he might have put in his nose, if not an ent surgeon would help you in diagnosing the condition, he needs a thorough ent evaluation.

Respected sir/mam now my baby is 6 weeks old. Please tell me which vaccines are mandatory. And which are optional.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Respected sir/mam now my baby is 6 weeks old. Please tell me which vaccines are mandatory. And which are optional.
DPT /Hib /HepB /IPV..(some include rotateq first dose) Routinely given, you can give PCV in addition to the former. All these are to be given every month for three months. Optional is a misguided word. What it really means is, give it, if you can afford. All recommended vaccines are beneficial and are desirable but for affordability. (I use Rotarix at 10 & 14 wks instead of rotateq 6-10-14 wks. Both schedules are equally good)

When a parent loses the early confrontations with a child, the later conflicts become harder to win.

My 12 years old daughter has some bone growth on left side of chin. It is slowly growing around two years from now. What should be done?
