Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, the color of our skin is due the formation of a color pigment called melanin. The synthesis of melanin is dependant on the body temperature. However, if the melanin synthesis is decreased or stopped due to any abnormal reason then the skin of that area becomes hypo-pigmented & looks colorless. Follow the medications as directed:- 1) take 4 tablets of homoeopathic arsenicum sulph flavum 6x tablets along with a cup of lukewarm water, thrice daily. 2) apply homoeopathic mother tincture ammi visnaga q on the colorless part of your skin & keep that area sunlight for 30 minutes daily. Continue the aforesaid medication for at least 1 month to observe visible results. However, before starting any medication kindly check whether you are having any loss of sensation on that colorless part of skin. If you experience slight loss of sensation on that colorless part of skin then you should contact your local dermatologist immediately.

Welcome to LYBRATE and thanks for query We may often blame external factors such as pollution, stress, dandruff, etc. for our hair fall problem. But did you know a poor diet is one of the main causes of this issue? When you deprive your body of essential nutrients, many of which are needed for normal hair growth, you are likely to suffer from hair fall. If nothing?s done about it for a prolonged time, you are likely to near baldness. In order to control this situation, it is best to feed your locks a healthy diet, high on the nutrition scale. Here?s what your hair needs to remain healthy. Vitamin B-Complex: This is required to help the hemoglobin supply oxygen to the scalp and hair follicles. More oxygen promotes hair growth and a healthy mane. The lack of vitamin B-Complex can lead to weak, undernourished and damaged hair. You can either get this from natural sources like chicken, tuna and salmon, or eat vitamin tablets if you have its deficiency. Find out if you have vitamin B-Complex deficiency with these symptoms. Zinc: Our scalp contains oil glands which need to function adequately to produce enough oil, the lack of which can lead to a dry scalp, dandruff and eventually hair loss. Eat foods like nuts, whole grains, lentils, meat and seafood to provide enough amounts of zinc to your hair. Also read these benefits and sources of zinc. Copper: Hemoglobin is needed by our body to supply enough oxygen and blood to various organs including our hair. Copper helps in the formation of more hemoglobin. Lack of it can result in weak, brittle hair which will lead to hair loss. Good sources of copper include sesame seeds, soya, cashew nuts, meat, and seafood. Here are natural ways to increase your hemoglobin levels. Iron: Iron is very essential for men and especially women as they lose out blood and iron during their menstrual cycle. Even pregnant and lactating women need a high dose of iron as it helps produce hemoglobin. The lack of iron can weaken your hair right from the roots which will cause them to break very soon. Losing more than a 100 strands a day is a sign of hair loss. In order to avoid its deficiency, eat spinach, soybeans, dal, red kidney beans, chicken, meat, eggs, and fish. Iron from animal sources is more easily absorbed into our system. Vitamin C: Collagen production is very important to hold the hair tissues together in place and vitamin C helps do the needful. A lack of this can lead to frequent split ends, hair fall, and brittle hair. Include fruits like oranges, lemons, berries, sweet lime, watermelon and tomatoes in your diet. If you are a smoker, you need more amounts of vitamin C so cut down on smoking and eat more fruits. Protein: A very important nutrient which acts as the building block of every tissue in our body including the hair and scalp, protein is highly essential for us. It helps in the production of new hair to replace the ones lost. A lack of protein can lead to thinning hair, dry and brittle hair as well as eventual hair loss. Get your protein intake from foods like beans, nuts, grains, milk, cheese, fish, eggs, chicken. Eating right can help control hair fall to a large extent as your diet makes your mane stronger from within. Instead of relying on just shampoos and serums, make sure you are getting an adequate dose of these nutrients from the food you eat.

Hyperpigmentation and Hypopigmentation - How it Can be Treated?

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Faridabad
Hyperpigmentation and Hypopigmentation - How it Can be Treated?

The term pigmentation generally has to do with the colour of something. So, in the case of people, it refers to the colour of their skin. So what is exactly hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation? How should a person go about dealing with conditions such as these?

Melanin is a chemical, which provides the skin with its colour. In case of hyperpigmentation, what occurs is that the amount of melanin in the skin increases beyond normal. Now the reasons for this are quite diverse, to say the very least. As a matter of fact, pregnancy could be a cause, as could medications such as antibiotics or antimalarial medicines (medicines to fight off malaria). Addison’s disease could also be a cause.

On the other hand, hypopigmentation refers to the situation in which the amount of melanin in the skin falls below what it should be, under normal circumstances. While there are quite a few causes for this, the primary culprits happen to be burns or injuries. In certain cases, a person may have the sort of situation which occurs in the case of hypopigmentation as a result of having another condition. This generally happens in cases of albinism or vitiligo, which have affected the skin.

So, what is to be done if a person has hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation?

After all, while this may be the issue  of the skin, the impact they have on a person’s self-confidence are more than just skin deep! With hyperpigmentation, exposure to sunlight directly should be limited to a great extent as possible. If there is going to be some sort of exposure, it is important to use adequate amount of sunscreen so that the impact on the skin is reduced. The sunscreen should surely contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. The reason for this is the fact that UV rays are blocked by these two chemicals. This is quite a good thing, considering these rays are the ones which can cause the most damage to skin with hyperpigmentation.

When it comes to hypopigmentation, conditions such as vitiligo or albinism do not have cures. So, they can only be managed to the best extent that is possible. Cosmetics can be used in order to improve the appearance of the person. In addition to this, sunscreen should be used in this case due to the risk that exposure to the sun might affect a person who has hypopigmentation. While this occurs in all sorts of people, it is especially seen in people of Caucasian descent. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist and ask a free question.
