Fever - 7 Ayurvedic Remedies For It!

Did you know? - There are 8 kinds of fever? With changes in weather and pollution – viral fevers are a big issue in urban India. But don’t worry, there is a cure for almost all types of fever in Ayurveda. Read on to find out the simplest 7 Ayurvedic home cures for fever.

1. Rise with riceWho knew rice could help to cure fever? Apart from being a part of our daily diet, rice can aid in getting rid of viral fever. All you have to do is prepare rice starch (some of us know it as “kanji”) by cooking rice and adding a cup of water. As the rice granules are semi-cooked, you must strain out the drink. Pour it in a glass along with a little salt and consume it when warm. This remedy is not only a natural nourishing drink but also a diuretic increasing urination and elimination of toxins along with boosting the immune system.

2. Raising your immunity through Raisins - Raisins help the body fight infections and reduce fevers because of their antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Additionally, raisins act as a tonic for the body when battling a fever. Soak 25 raisins in half a cup of water for one hour, or until the raisins become soft. Crush the soaked raisins in the water and strain the liquid. Add the juice of half a lime to this solution. Have this twice a day until your fever is gone.

3. The Basil-route -Basil is an effective herb for bringing down fever. This herb is just as effective as many types of antibiotics in the market. Boil together 20 basil leaves and add one teaspoon of crushed ginger in a cup of water to get a fine solution. Add some honey and drink this tea two to three times a day for three days.

4. Consume some Fenugreek water–A bank of medicinal compounds such as alkaloids, saponins and other compounds are known to reduce viral infections have various important nutritional elements. Fenugreek is a widely available plant that can be used to this effect. Just soak in a spoon of the seeds in ½ a cup of water. Strain it out the next morning and sip this mixture at regular intervals. For some instant relief, you can consume the seeds with lemon and honey too.

5. For those who love tea - Coriander seeds contain vitamins and phytonutrients which help boost your immune system. In addition to this, the presence of antibiotic compounds and potent volatile oils, coriander act as an effective natural aid to combat a viral infection. Coriander tea, just like regular tea, is made by adding a spoon of its seeds to water. Boil this mixture and strain. Add some milk and sugar for taste. This tea will relieve you from symptoms of viral fever.

6. Garlic under your feet–What? What does this mean? Yes, it means exactly what it sounds, since Garlic has heating properties, which can induce sweating to lower high fever and remove toxins from the body. Mix two crushed garlic cloves with olive oil and apply this mixture (warmed) under the sole of each foot, leaving a few spots blank. Tie up your feet with gauze, so that the mixture is intact. There have been cases of complete elimination of the fever in just 1 night by this method. Note: Garlic remedies are not recommended for pregnant ladies and small children.

7. Cure it the yoga way -Matsyasana or the fish pose helps extend the chest and lungs giving you an increased breathing capacity. It also helps you beat body ache and fatigue associated with fever.

Directions:

  • Keep your feet on the floor and lie down with bent knees.
  • Get your legs straight and arms on each side.
  • Place each hand under a hip and raise the hips.
  • Now slowly push your upper body upwards while bending your elbows. Tilt your head backwards and exhale.
  • Count till 5 and inhale as you get back in the initial position.

Beat the bug with these home remedies if you do end up catching it! To boost your immunity and prevent the bug from getting near you try HERBOfit – our very own immunity and energy booster chyawanprash in the form of multivitamin capsules.

Digestive Remedies for Liver And Skin

The liver and the skin of a person are the most important and also the most sensitive organs of a human body. Although the skin has a single job of covering the whole body, its importance runs much deeper than that and hence maintaining its health is of utmost importance. The liver is the largest organ in the body and has a multitude of responsibilities including detoxification and metabolism of food. It removes the harmful toxins and chemicals that inadvertently get combined with the food we eat. The liver also has to perform cleansing functions of the body along with protein synthesis.

The liver and the skin of a person are prone to a lot of wear and tear due to our unhealthy lifestyles. Junk food, lack of sleep, stress and over toxification play havoc with our digestive system and finally our skin and liver have to pay the price for our carelessness. Below are some easy and healthy digestive remedies for the liver and skin, which have proven to be effective without any side effects:

Digestive remedies for liver:

  1. Onions and garlic: Onion and garlic have an abundance of Choline, a soluble compound which in the prevention of fat deposition on the liver. They also contain Methionine, an amino acid present in proteins whose responsibility is to protect the liver and help to flush out the toxins by through the urine.
  2. Radish for improved digestion: Digestion can be improved with the intake of radish. Radish has sulphur-based chemicals in it which aids in proper functioning of the liver. It also contains Diastase, an enzyme used by the liver to digest starches in the food consumed by an individual.
  3. Intake of food high in fiber: Fiber has a very important role to play in digestion of food in our body and hence improves the functioning of the liver. The large intestine in our body secretes bile during digestion which gets attached to the fiber and is then transported out of the body along with other fatty toxins. Fiber can be found in high quantity in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower and fruits like pears and oranges.
  4. Increased intake of detoxifying foods: Pomegranate, green tea, turmeric, yogurt etc are detoxifying agents that help to detox the liver which eventually helps in digestion.

Digestive remedies for the skin:

  1. Avoid sugar, gluten, soy and dairy: Sugar, gluten, soy and dairy products are sensitive foods that usually cause intestinal inflammation. This can have adverse affect on the gut thus affecting the digestion process. Avoiding the intake of these foods, at least for a short while, can have favorable effect on your skin.
  2. Cultivate a habit of probiotic intake daily: Probiotics contain the good bacteria essential for one’s gut and thus helps to improve digestion. Daily intake of a probiotic supplement can go a long way in rejuvenating one’s skin.
  3. Aid digestion with raw apple cider vinegar: Apple Cider Vinegar is the most natural digestive aid, which not only helps the body naturally digest the food but also supports the growth of the good bacteria, which keeps your gut healthy.
  4. If necessary consume digestive enzymes: Usually the human body is capable of producing digestive enzymes naturally. But in case, due to some reason the production of digestive enzymes is less or none in an individual they can always resort to artificial digestive enzymes (this should only be done in consultation with a doctor)

Living a healthy lifestyle with a lot of exercise and healthy food intake goes a long way in improving the health of your liver as well as your skin. At Dr. Vaidya’s we understand the importance of the liver as the ‘father organ’ of the body and thus, recommend consumption of LIVitup for liver, skin and digestive ailments. The organ is important for detoxification of the body and protecting the liver and the cells in its lining are critical to good health. For liver ailments including liver cirrhosis and fatty liver disorder as well as skin and digestive ailments, consumption of LIVitup (Your Ayurvedic Liver Protector) on a daily basis can be extremely helpful.

How To Get Rid Of Ache And Pain With Help Of Ayurveda?

It’s not just painful but also very irritating to have that odd neck, back, knee or any other muscular pain. Just sitting and waiting for the pain to go is something that we just cannot do. We want instant relief! Some of us wonder how we even got this pain. Asking around we find answers such as an incorrect posture of the body, too much of physical stress on a particular muscle or staying still in one position for a long time. Right, long working hours sitting in front of a computer.

  • Ayurveda dives a bit deeper to find out the cause of muscular pain. According to Ayurveda, the muscle pain is caused by collection of harmful toxins in a particular area of the body which blocks the smooth transportation of essential nutrients, which leads to the aggravation of the “Vata” element in the body and causing muscular pain. There is no exception to any age group from this pain.
  • Once again, body, diet and health, are all inter- linked. Ayurveda says a prominent way to avoid muscular pain is our diet. Cheese, cakes, meat, processed food, caffeine are strictly to be avoided by Ayurveda. This is because these kinds of foods dry up the muscles making them stiff and causing pain.
  • If a person experiences muscular pain, Ayurveda has natural and chemical free methods to manage the pain. The main method is the practice of Abhyanga. It includes the application of oil all over the body, and massaging the areas where pain is experienced gently. This improves blood circulation with the nutrients needed all over the body. The heating properties of the oil stimulate the same.
  • At Dr. Vaidya’s, we have innovative products which help in prevention and management of muscular pain. One of them is the evergreen super popular, Rumox Balm. Rumox balm is a special Ayurvedic formulation that has an anti-inflammatory properties and an analgesic effect. Apart from treating swelling and muscular pain, it also provides relief from all types of arthritic pain.
  • Another product tried by thousands of our loyal customers is Sandhivati, which is a strong formulation for treatment of arthritis. Composed of Maharasnadi Quath Ghan powder and Mahayograj Guggul powder, this product is used for effective treatment of muscular, joint and arthritic pain.
  • We also have special herbal massage oil called Nirgundi Oil, a formulation of Til Oil, Castor Oil, Sarsav Oil and Nirgundi Extract. It is to be gently applied over the pain affected area.

Ayurvedic Dental Techniques Oil Pulling

Ayurvedic Dental Techniques Oil Pulling

A common man follows a standard daily oral hygiene routine, which entails brushing one’s teeth and rinsing one’s mouth. At the most, some people who are extra conscious about their oral hygiene use dental floss or some branded mouthwash for the fresh feeling. But, the question remains, is it enough?

From the time you wake up till the time you go back to sleep, your mouth is susceptible to a large amount of attacks from bacteria, which enter your body through your mouth. This results in unwanted and harmful dental diseases. This can happen in spite of the fact that people regularly and religiously follow their daily oral hygiene as well as their trips to the dentist for regular clean-ups. So what is that extra something that can help get rid of the bacteria trying to take permanent residence in your mouth?

Oil Pulling:

Oil pulling is an ancient and traditional Ayurvedic technique which is your best bet to detoxify your mouth from that pesky bacterium along with whitening and cleaning of your teeth. It is also a proven cure for innumerable diseases like skin infections, arthritis, liver and stomach problems, curing headaches and migraines, throat infections etc. Any type of edible oil can be used for this highly beneficial Ayurvedic technique.

Following are a set of instructions for the process of how oil pulling is done:

  1. Oil pulling process should be conducted immediately after waking up before eating or drinking anything.
  2. Choose edible oil like sesame, coconut or olive oil for this purpose.
  3. Take not more than 2 tablespoons of oil in the mouth and swish it i.e. is move it around the mouth for at least 20 minutes moving it throughout the mouth and along the gums and in between the teeth also.
  4. Avoid decreasing the time limit for swishing the oil in the mouth. By decreasing the time you might not be able to completely detoxify your mouth and by increasing the time the risks of absorbing the toxins back in the mouth and stomach are high. To know when the time is right to stop swishing the oil in your mouth, you can out a little oil from your mouth. If the oil has thinned and turned white or milky then it is time to spit out the rest of the oil from your mouth.
  5. After spitting out the oil, rinse and gargle your mouth with warm water and use a tongue cleaner to remove all residue of the oil.

Repeat this process everyday for satisfying results.

Benefits of oil pulling:

  1. The main cause of bad breath in your mouth is tooth decay which is caused by a bacterium which is called Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Oil pulling is an attested form of Ayurvedic technique which gets rid of this bacterium from your mouth permanently.
  2. Teeth and gum related diseases like gingivitis and periodontists are also cured.
  3. It helps to reduce in dental cavities.
  4. Oil pulling invigorates the lymphatic system by depleting the toxins in the vital organs of the body.
  5. Helps in getting whiter and brighter teeth.

While oil pulling is a very involved technique, a quicker way to adopt Ayurveda on a daily basis is the use of tooth powder. Tooth powder is an Ayurvedic replacement to toothpaste without the harmful chemicals (especially fluoride) that go into our daily minty and frothy brushing experience. It has proven to be much more effective than tooth paste in getting rid of yellowness of teeth, gingivitis and bleeding gums
