Hello, Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis hospital, New Delhi. There are many causes of pain in lower back region. It can be due to faulty posture, related to weak muscles, issues with Intervertebral Disc, narrowing of Spinal canal, any Bony instability besides many other , so accurate diagnosis is the key to proper management of the condition. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your back pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset.I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, protein is one of the most vital nutritional substances which are required for human body. Almost every high protein diet contains purine. This purine produces uric acid on oxidation. Excess uric acid is accumulated at the joints of human beings as urate salts. This accumulation of urate salts lead to gout. You should avoid high protein rich diet like mutton, chicken, beef, eggs, sea fish, spinach, garden pea, tomato, lentils etc. Also you need to take homoeopathic mother tincture urtica urens q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. This medicine will help to dissolve the accumulated excess urate salts from the joints.

My advise is always to keep sugar levels under control by regularly checking it and consulting diabetologist. Also proper diet helps. Secondly, keeping yourself physically fit like daily morning walks for 2-3 km in a day, general conditioning exercises, abdominal strengthening ex, adequate calcium and vitamin d intake keeps bone metabolism healthy. Meanwhile please get few blood tests done: cbc, esr, crp, serum electrolytes and serum vitamin d levels. We shall supplement in case there is any deficiency. Simple ways to reduce risk of falling, especially for the elderly

Doctor Of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy

Simple ways to reduce risk of falling, especially for the elderly
Preventing falls is a special concern for men and women with osteoporosis. Falls can increase the risk of fracturing a bone in the hip, wrist, spine, or other part of the skeleton. In addition to the environmental factors listed below, falls can also be caused by impaired vision and/or balance, chronic diseases that affect mental or physical functioning, and certain medications, such as sedatives and some antidepressants. It is important that individuals with osteoporosis be aware of any physical changes that affect their balance or gait, and that they discuss these changes with their health care provider.

Outdoors:
1. Use a cane or walker for added stability.
2. Wear rubber-soled shoes for traction.

Simple tips
1. Make sure lighting is adequate especially night as falls are common when trying to walk in dark.
2. Eliminate clutter in the house and neatly strap loose wires etc so it does not come in the way.
3. Avoid using rugs where foot or cane can catch while walking.
4. Make sure there are bars to hold on to in the bathroom.
5. Elderly patients will reduce fall risk if they do gentle stretching exercises daily and keep up their walking.

Do hot fomentation twice daily. Postural correction- always sit with a small pillow at your low back. Sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises like bridging and bhujang asana x twice daily. Sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees or on your sides with a pillow between your knees. And get vit d levels checked. Go for regular walks follow 30-30 rule when at work. After every 30 min of work. Do 30 sec of stretching or stand and walk a bit.
