If all the investigations are normal then may be it is due to stress. It is good that you are doing yoga and walking. Definitely it will have positive effect. Eat healthy food items less in salt and oil. Sleep at right time and wake up early in the morning. Avoid stress. Drink two glasses of water empty stomach in the morning. Take homeopathic mother tincture rauwolfia serpentina q, 10 drops in half cup of water twice daily. This medicine will regulate your bp in natural way in some days.

Hello Mr. Lybrate-user. Only your hba1c average blood glucose, triglycerides and alp are not in range. Remaining all tests are almost normal and nothing to fear about. You need to start insulin as your hba1c is not in the limit. Actually maintaining 12 years on oral diabetic drugs is appreciative. Average blood sugar is 194 which need to be controlled immediately. It may be the reason for raise in tgl. And you need to test for ggt as your alp has raised. Do some regular exercise like walking, jogging are any game which ever you feel better. And consult a good physician for good diabetic care. Contact if need further assistance.

I am a 41 years old male. my total cholesterol and triglycerides level is border line. What should I do?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine

I am a 41 years old male. my total cholesterol and triglycerides level is border line. What should I do?
high cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Understanding Silent Heart Attacks

FSCAI (Int Card), FACC (Card), FACP (Int Medicine), MBBS
Cardiologist, Delhi
Understanding Silent Heart Attacks

A heart attack does not always have obvious symptoms, such as pain in your chest, shortness of breath and cold sweats. In fact, a heart attack can actually happen without a person knowing it. This condition is known as a ‘silent heart attack’, medically known as ‘silent ischemia’, occurring due to the shortage of oxygen supply to the heart muscle.

The causes of a silent heart attack are similar to that of a heart attack. They include-

  1. Obesity or excess weight

  2. Lack of exercise

  3. Disorders such as diabetes

  4. High blood pressure

  5. High cholesterol

  6. Age, usually above 65

  7. Heart diseases

  8. Consumption of tobacco or smoking

A silent cardiac arrest makes one more vulnerable to another heart attack that could be fatal.

Diagnosis:

The only method to diagnose if you had a silent heart attack is through imaging tests, such as echocardiogram, electrocardiogram or others. These tests can show certain changes which might be indicative of a heart attack.

An analysis of one’s overall health and the symptoms can aid in deciding whether few more tests are required.

How would you prevent a silent heart attack?

  1. Get your cholesterol and blood pressure count tested regularly.

  2. Refrain from smoking.

  3. Be aware of your body and call on a doctor if you feel there’s anything which is bothering you. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Hi I am 30 year old female. I constantly have low BP varying form 90/60 to 18/128. What could be the probable reason. How to control this.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

It could be because of dehydration. When dealing with low blood pressure, it is usually suggested to increase your salt and fluid intake. Before increasing yoursalt consumption, do check with your doctor. Also, cut down on alcoholic beverages and high-carbohydrate foods such asbread, rice, pasta, and potatoes.

It must have been explained to you. Just to refresh heart healthy diet for every member of family- avoid bad fats like street food, burgers etc. Take minimum salt & sugar despite bp & blood sugar being normal. Salt is a preservative & present in every packed food. Avoid. Eat fresh. Take more potassium through citrus fruits like oranges, lemon, berries, amla, banana etc. Take good fats like a katori of assorted nuts + a spoon of pure ghee/ butter. Seasonal vegetables and fruits as much as one can accept according to constitution. Keep weight stable, avoid extra carbs & replace with salads. Avoid reheating and using same oil for frying purposes. Walk to health to digest food, to meditate & to keep heart in good shape.
