Inflammation of the Cervix (Cervicitis)

The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that extends into the vagina. This is where menstrual blood exits the uterus. During labor, the cervix dilates to allow a baby to pass through the endocervical (birth) canal. Like any tissue in the body, the cervix can become inflamed for a variety of reasons.

Inflammation of the cervix is calledcervicitis. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, more than half of all women will be affected by this condition at some point in their adult lives

What Is Cervicitis?

The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that extends into the vagina. This is where menstrual blood exits the uterus. During labor, the cervix dilates to allow a baby to pass through the endocervical (birth) canal. Like any tissue in the body, the cervix can become inflamed for a variety of reasons.

Inflammation of the cervix is calledcervicitis. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, more than half of all women will be affected by this condition at some point in their adult lives (PubMed Health, 2012).

The most common cause of this inflammation is an infection. Infections that cause cervicitis may be caused by sexual activity, but are not always. The condition is typically categorized as acute or chronic. Acute cervicitis involves a sudden onset of symptoms. Chronic cervicitis lasts for several months.

Acute cervicitis is typically caused by a sexually transmitted infection, such as:

herpeschlamydiatrichomoniasishuman papillomavirus (HPV)gonorrhea

It can also be caused by an infection due to other factors, such as an allergy to spermicide or condom latex, a cervical cap or diaphragm, or sensitivity to the chemicals found in tampons. Regular vaginal bacteria can also cause cervicitis.

Chronic cervicitis is common after childbirth. It may also occur during pregnancy because increased hormone levels cause increased blood flow to the cervix.

What Are the Symptoms of Cervicitis?

Some women are asymptomatic, but when symptoms are present, they can include:

abnormal vaginal bleedingpersistent gray or white vaginal discharge that may have an odorvaginal painpain during intercoursea feeling of pelvic pressurebackaches

If cervicitis progresses, the cervix can become very inflamed. In some cases, it can develop an open sore. Pus-like vaginal discharge is a symptom of cervicitis of this severity.

Part 3 of 6

Complications of Cervicitis

Cervicitis caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia can move to the uterine lining and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID causes additional pelvic pain, discharge, and fever. PID that is untreated can cause fertility problems.

How Do I Know If I Have Cervicitis?

If you have symptoms of cervicitis, see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis. The symptoms of cervicitis can also be signs of other vaginal conditions. Sometimes, cervicitis is discovered during a routine exam if you aren’t having any symptoms.

There are multiple ways cervicitis can be diagnosed.

Pelvic Exam

For this test, your doctor will insert a gloved finger into your vagina while also applying pressure to the abdomen. This way, he or she can detect abnormalities of the pelvic organs, which include the cervix.

Pap Test

For this test, also called a Pap smear, your doctor will take a swab of cells from your vagina and cervix. These cells will then be tested for abnormalities.

Cervical Biopsy

This test is often performed only if your Pap smear detected abnormalities. For this test, also called a colposcopy, your doctor will insert a speculum into your vagina. He or she will then take a cotton swab and gently clean the vagina and cervix of mucus residue. Then, the doctor will direct a light and colposcope (a type of microscope) at your vagina to examine the area. He or she will then take tissue samples from any areas that look abnormal.

Culture of Cervical Discharge for Microscopic Examination

Your doctor may also decide to take a sample of the discharge from your cervix. He or she will then place the sample under a microscope. This test can determine if you have a yeast infection (candidiasis), bacterial vaginosis, or trichomoniasis, among other conditions.

Tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) may also be performed. If a specific infection is contributing to your cervicitis, the infection will be treated. This should heal the cervical inflammation.

Part 5 of 6

How Is Cervicitis Treated?

There is no standard treatment for cervicitis. Your doctor will determine the best course for you based on several factors, including your overall health, your medical history, the severity of your symptoms, and the extent of the inflammation.

Commonly used treatments include:

antibiotics to kill any infectionswatchful waiting, especially after childbirthcryosurgery or silver nitrate in severe cases when there is damage to cervical cells (Cryosurgery involves using freezing temperatures to freeze abnormal cells in the cervix, which then destroys them. Silver nitrate may also be used to destroy abnormal cells.)

When the cause of your cervicitis is determined, it can be treated. Without treatment, however, cervicitis can last for years, causing painful intercourse and worsening symptoms.

Can I Prevent Cervicitis?

There are ways to reduce your risk of developing cervicitis. Abstaining from sexual intercourse will protect you from cervicitis caused by an STI. Reduce your risk of contracting an STI by using a condom every time you have sexual intercourse.

Avoiding chemical solutions, such as douches and scented tampons, can reduce your risk of an allergic reaction. If you insert anything into your vagina, such as a tampon or diaphragm, follow the directions for when to remove it and how to clean it.

Thank you - Speak to Doctor for more clarification.

Sexual Disorders

MBBS, PGC IN FAMILY WELFARE &HEALTH MANAGEMENT, DHA, PGD IN MEDICAL LAWS ÐICS
General Physician, Kolkata
Sexual Disorders
I find lots of queries in lybrate on the subject, mostly from men, few from women. Earlier notion of women being passive partner does not hold good any more. With women emancipation, they are equally demanding, physically. And emotionally.
I will restrict myself to heterosexual functioning e. G impotence and frigidity.
Sexual disability in men may take various forms-1) absence of sexual desire for the sexual partner or absence of libido in general;
2) inability to procure erection
3) inability to sustain erection
4 inability to ejaculate in spite of well sustained erection;
5) premature ejaculation.
Common causes-
1) mostly psychogenic, anxiety for performance failure and haste;
2) uncontrolled diabetes;
3) some blood pressure lowering drugs
4) psychiatric treatment
Anxiety due any cause, masturbation anxiety is possibly quite a common factor, but any form of anxiety or depression can cause impotence.
Some men subconsciously identify their sexual partner with their mother or sister and incest taboo asserts itself and they are impotent with their wives but may be potent with other sexual partners.
Other men associate the sex act with aggression and violence.
Ejaculatory impotence is much rarer.
Another type is the professional man" s impotence. They simply burn out due to their work load and odd working hours.
Disturbances in women may be-
1) frigidity
2) vaginismus (involuntary spasm of vaginal muscles, always psychogenic)
3) dyspareunia.
Frigidity is lack of sexual feeling in women and may vary from
An intense feeling of revulsion to any sexual advance to varying sexual arousal without orgasm.
Causes-
1) anatomical defects;
2) physiological deficiency in endocrine glands;
3) lacked sexual instructions from parents
4) husband" s ignorance of sex technique
5) painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
6) physiological during lactation
7) psychological-fears of pregnancy, inadequate stimulation, premature ejaculation, depression and anxiety.
Treatment-
Both drug and non drug therapies are available, strictly under
Medical supervision.
Suitable age group 20 to 60 yrs.
Contraindications-heart, liver, kidney disorders

Ideal Way of Treating Digestive Problems = Switch to Homeopathy!

Ideal Way of Treating Digestive Problems = Switch to Homeopathy!

Role of Homeopathy in Treating Digestive Problems

Digestive system is an intricate part of your body, spanning from the mouth to the anus. It plays a very important role in helping your body absorb essential nutrients as well as get rid of the waste that forms after digestion. Like every system in the body, it also gets plagued by health problems such as constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux or hemorrhoids.

How can homeopathy help in treating problems concerning your body's digestive system?

Homeopathy uses a single remedy to treat a condition irrespective of the number of organs or systems involved. It is an effective, safe and gentle treatment for curing digestion problems without any side effects. This is because the homeopathic medicines are derived from minerals, herbs or animal products. The ingredients are crushed and dissolved, shaken well and diluted till none of the original product exists anymore. The more diluted the substance is, the more its healing properties are believed to be.

Various digestive disorders like indigestion, stomach ache, gas ulcers, constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome and heartburn can be treated with homeopathy. The remedies that homeopathy make use of help the body to correct its imbalance without causing any side effects.

Homeopathic remedies go to the underlying cause of the problem. When an individual experiences a stomach ache the body signals that something is not right within his or her body. Painkillers can help in controlling the pain for a short amount of time but it cannot treat the underlying imbalance.

A homeopath carefully selects a remedy for the digestive disorder keeping in mind the patient's emotional and physical factors along with his or her eating habits and lifestyle.

For instance: 'Nux Vomica' would be a good Homeopathic remedy for stomach problems when you feel heartburn that occurs after having coffee, spicy food or alcohol; however 'Pulsatilla' acts better for dealing with the gastric problems due to consumption of fatty food like pastries, or fried foods.

We’ve heard over and over again that weight loss is important in managing PCOS and that diet and exercise are more effective than medications in improving your PCOS symptoms 1. Eat organic food. Avoid junk. 2. Drink lots of water. 3. Exercise regularly. Brisk walking is a good idea to keep weight under control. 4. Visit nature places and spend time alone. 5. Take steps to calm your mind. Worrying about the problem can only make it worse – listen to music, read or spend time gardening. Butterfly Pose can be very helpful in PCOS. Don’t flap your legs too much; instead try holding the posture for long. 1. Even more helpful is SuptaBadhakonasana (Reclining Butterfly Pose), which works just like the Butterfly Pose,this time lying down. This is what makes it extremely relaxing. To enhance the experience, play some soft music and place cushions under your hip. For beginners, it is a good idea to use cushion support while doing this posture. 2. Bharadvajasana (Bharadvaja’s Twist) is a seated spinal twist that helps PCOS patients. 3. Chakki Chalanasana (moving the grinding wheel) is a very simple exercise with several benefits. It helps massage the liver, kidneys, pancreas, uterus and the reproductive organs. 4. Shavasana (Corpse Pose) is another useful posture to try. In PCOS, the more you relax, the better you feel and this posture will help you completely relax at the end of your yoga session. 5. Padma Sadhana practice is also considered very effective for PCOS patients. 6. Make sure you don’t hold the postures that put pressure on the abdomen (Bow Pose, Superman Pose, Cobra Pose and Boat Pose) for a long time. 7. A few rounds of Sun Salutation at a faster pace can be good for weight loss; however, it is a good idea to practice only a few slow rounds daily for more relaxation. •

Orgasm in females are delayed and need more arousal. First have the mindset-believe in it. Female-focused foreplay is one of the best techniques, because it allows you to start down the excitement path earlier than him, which leads to that deeper orgasms are all about a very intense state of release, so you have to be willing to dive into the unknown and let go, the more you can practice deep, steady breathing, you'll relax, esp after first orgasm, stay in the present moment, and also increase the power and pleasure of your orgasm.

Hello, Sex stimulates forward peristalsis movement of the intestine. If you have some gastric trouble or constipation problem, sexual stimulation can result in trapped and obstructed gases in the bowel this causing cramping abdominal pain after sex. Its not an infection or any other disease. Improve your bowel habits, take fibrous diet, fix meal timings, take dry figs or raisins at night with milk. Your problems will be solved.
