6 Sure Shot Ways of Birth Control

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS, DGO
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
6 Sure Shot Ways of Birth Control

Birth control is a method by which unwanted pregnancy is prevented. Partners can plan their childbearing in a better way using the increased levels of awareness about birth control.

Methods of birth control:

  1. Intrauterine devices (IDUs): These are most effective methods of birth control. The intrauterine device (IUD) is a long-acting and reversible form of contraception for women. It is of two types: Copper IUD (contains copper) and Hormone-releasing IUDs (progestin hormone is released into the womb slowly). It is a small device that is fitted inside the womb and it provides contraception by preventing fertilization of the egg.
  2. Sterilization: This is a process of birth control that renders a woman incapable of conception or a man incapable of sperm delivery. The process is conducted with the consent of the individual and can be done using either surgical or non-surgical methods. In both the cases, tubes carrying sperms (in males) and fallopian tubes (females) are either cut or blocked.
  3. Condoms: These are the most commonly used measures for birth control. Male and female condoms act as barriers and prevent the sperm from reaching the uterus.
  4. Oral contraceptive pills: These pills are the most popular measures of birth control used by women across the world. This is the most convenient way of postponing pregnancy. However, it is very important that the side effects of the contraceptive pills be noted. The side effects cause changes in the body, such as irregular bleeding, increase in the breast's size increased levels of blood pressure as well as eventual infertility.
  5. Contraceptive Injections: In this method, one hormone injection is administered, the effects of which last inside the body for a time period of 8 to 12 weeks i.e. 2-3 months. The contraceptive injection has the similar effects as that of contraceptive pills on birth control. Evidently, the shot is irreversible, which makes the woman infertile for a period of three months. However, similar to the pill, protection from STDs is not offered by contraceptive injections. But these injections can guarantee 99% safety and surety on being used.
  6. Natural Family Planning: Even though it is not any external pill or device, Natural Family Planning is also a method of birth control. It relies on the knowledge of timings of the menstrual cycle (periods) so that the couple can avoid sex during the time period when the woman is fertile. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Itchy skin in pregnancy and postpartum is a common complaint. Sometimes itching in pregnancy is caused by “PUPPS Rash” and having PUPPS rash postpartum can happen after the birth of your baby. It can be a huge inconvenience when you are dealing with a newborn and lack of sleep. PUPPS rash postpartum tends to look like hives. Here are the symptoms: Rash consisting of bumps and redness. May spread to arms, thighs, buttocks, and breasts. Itching that can be severe for around a week. Itch clears before the rash. Stretch marks with rash around them. Fatigue due to lack of sleep from itching at night. The following home remedies have been found helpful in taking care of PUPPS rash postpartum at home: Nettle or Dandelion Tea. Drink two cups daily of the organic brand. Flaxseed Oil. Take two tablespoons in a cup of milk. Chickweed Gel. Apply 3 to 4 times daily to the affected area. Pine Tar Soap. Use with each shower with warm water, not hot. Works in 2 to 5 days. Olive Oil. Do not dry off after your shower or bath, but apply olive oil to your wet skin and then pat dry. Coconut Oil. Apply to the rash twice daily. Banana Peel. Rub a banana peel to the rash a few times a day. Baking Soda. Make a baking soda and water paste and apply it to the rash. Corn Starch. Make a paste and apply to rash areas to help relieve itching.

Causes and Treatment of Premenstrual Syndrome

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS, DGO
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Causes and Treatment of Premenstrual Syndrome

A collection of symptoms typically occurring between ovulation and menses (discharge of blood and from the uterus) is defined as premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Premenstrual syndrome symptoms can either be physical or emotional.

Physical symptoms and signs include:

  1. Muscle or joint pain
  2. Headache
  3. Fatigue
  4. Weight gain due to fluid retention
  5. Bloated abdomen
  6. Breast tenderness
  7. Acne breakouts
  8. Diarrhoea or constipation

While other behavioural and emotional symptoms include:

  1. Anxiety or tension
  2. Depressed mood
  3. Crying spells
  4. Anger or irritability and mood swings
  5. Food cravings and appetite changes
  6. Insomnia
  7. Social withdrawal
  8. Poor concentration

Causes: The exact cause of PMS is unknown. But there are several contributing factors, such as:

  1. Cyclic hormonal changes: The hormones oestrogen and progesterone fluctuate a lot while preparing for a normal menstrual cycle. This fluctuation causes some of the symptoms of PMS.
  2. Chemical changes: The fluctuation of serotonin, a kind of neurotransmitter (brain chemical), affects the mood, which causes some of the emotional symptoms of PMS. For instance, insufficient serotonin triggers premenstrual depression, insomnia, food cravings and fatigue.
  3. Depression: If the PMS symptoms are severe, depression could be the underlying cause, though it doesn't usually trigger all of the symptoms.

Treatment: There is no permanent cure for PMS, but a few lifestyle changes and home remedies can work very well for you. Some treatment options include:

  1. To ease abdominal bloating, drink lots of fluids
  2. Eat a balanced diet comprised of plenty of vegetables and fruits. Reduce your alcohol, caffeine, salt and sugar intake.
  3. You can take supplements such as magnesium, calcium, vitamin B-6 and folic acid to reduce mood swings and cramps.
  4. Take vitamin D supplements to relieve symptoms
  5. Sleep for at least eight hours in the night to counter fatigue
  6. Exercise to improve your emotional health and reduce bloating
  7. Try to reduce your stress as much as you can; read a book or walk to relieve some stress.

Besides, these lifestyle changes, you can take over-the-counter medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen to reduce stomach cramps, muscles aches and headaches. Diuretics (drugs that increase urination) are excellent treatments for bloating and fluid retention. However, consult your doctor before consuming any medication or supplement. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

DO YOU HAVE ARTHRITIS

M. Ch. (Orthopedic), MS - Orthopaedics, Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS
Orthopedist, Gurgaon
DO YOU HAVE ARTHRITIS
Arthritis prevention let's save our generation next from arthritis pain,
Says Dr. Sanjaykapoor, senior consultant orthopedics and joint replacement surgery.
.
.
Arthritis affects over 15% approximately 180 million people in india, which is higher than many well known diseases.
While much has been said about high incidence of diabetes, hypertension, cancer and hiv in india, recent studies suggest that osteoarthritis beats them all to claim the no. 1 slot among ailments in the country.
Contrary to the misconception that arthritis only impacts the elderly, this disorder is increasingly found in the younger population.
Age is not a factor for arthritis; it can affect young and old alike. Earlier, arthritis patients would be around 65 years or so, but now the younger lot in the age group of 40-45 yrs which is normally considered to be in their golden years are increasingly turning up for surgery.
Higher levels of stress coupled with modern day lifestyles are increasing incidence of arthritis.
.
.
The best way to beating arthritis is by staying active.
The key to arthritis management is finding balance between activities and rest-exercising, as too much may stress sensitive joints, while being too sedentary can cause stiffness and immobility.
Stretching and gentle movements such as yoga are easy on the joints and keep them fluid and supple.
.
.
Exercises such as riding a bike, swimming and water aerobics keep the heart healthy and muscles strong while putting too much pressure on the joints.
Low impact exercises allow you to work your muscles without stressing your joints. Stretching often increases muscle tone and can help boost the range of motion of your joints.
.
.
Just make sure you warm up your muscles and joints before stretching to avoid aggravating joint pain and strain your muscles. By varying activities and following a well-rounded exercise routine with variety can help to maintain strength and protect your joints. Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce stress on your joints, especially weight bearing joints like your hips and knees.
In addition, this can slow down the wear on your joints during daily activities such as walking.
When you have experienced a joint injury, protecting that joint will lower the chances of developing arthritis later.
By taking care not to injure the joint again, you may also decrease the intensity of symptoms should arthritis develop later. Remember always listen to your body, stop exercising if you experience sharp pain and don't try to work through joint discomfort.
Find activities that are gentle on the body and take them at a comfortable pace.
Lastly but not the least, drinking enough water keeps the cartilage in joints lubricated so bones don't rub up against each other.
By eating foods rich in vitamin c and e and calcium, you'll help build a musculoskeletal system that can outlast degenerative conditions.

Does smoking affect your performance in bed?

Does smoking affect your performance in bed?

Effects of Smoking on Sexual Health

Smoking, in general, has a negative effect on the human body. It can cause a host of disorders such as mouth cancer, blood pressure problems, and lung cancer. Smoking affects the sexual performance of both men and women.

Here are some effects that smoking has on sex :-

1. Impotence: Smoking can damage the blood vessels that lead to erectile dysfunction (a condition where the penis cannot sustain an erection).

2. Decrease in libido: Smoking can cause various physical problems such as stamina reduction and lack of desire for sex. An individual who smokes won't be able to give an optimal sexual performance and this can further lower satisfaction levels.

3. Erectile dysfunction: Smoking can cause problems related to the circulation of the blood in the body. It can narrow the arteries that supply blood and this is directly linked with erectile dysfunction.

4. Tissue damage: Smoking can damage the tissues inside the penis thus impairing your ability to have an erection during sexual intercourse.

5. Early onset of menopause: It can affect the estrogen (a sex hormone) levels in the female body; so, women who smoke tend to reach menopause early.

6. Reduction in penis size: It can reduce the penis size in men by damaging the blood vessels and the structure of the tissue around the penis. This is more common in younger men.

7. Reduction in stamina: Smoking can cause a reduction in the stamina, thus a person will not be able to perform well sexually. It can lead to fatigue and tiredness during sex.

Of course, there are a lot of therapies which can help you recover from the damage already happened because of smoking and prevent further damage.

How To Cure HAY FEVER With Homeopathy?

BHMS, MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Navi Mumbai
How To Cure HAY FEVER With Homeopathy?

Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis is an allergic response to airborne substances such as pollen, dust mite or other allergens from plants or fungi. The symptoms of hay fever include sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, itchy throat, sinus pressures and congestion. Unlike its name, hay fever does not cause any fever.

The allergy generally occurs seasonally, especially in high pollen months, spring, summer or early fall. Not all people are affected by this allergy. Some are mildly affected. For others, immune system misunderstands allergens as harmful and releases the antibody called IgE (immunoglobulin E) to fight with it. This causes symptoms of hay fever. The symptoms could range from a mild congestion or sneezing to sweats, blocked sinuses, headaches and fatigue.

Hay fever is common during childhood; however, it can develop at any stage in a person’s life. It is believed that people with a family history of allergy and asthmatic patients are at a higher risk of developing it. Children born during pollen months as well as babies exposed to cigarette smoke during early years are also at risk of developing this allergy.

A proper diagnosis of the problem is the key to its management. The allergy is generally diagnosed through its symptoms. Sometimes, a blood test is conducted to test the level of immunoblobulinE. The level from 0 to 6 indicates the severity of the allergic reaction.

Allopathic medication offers a combination of interventions like desensitisation, anti-allergen tablets, steroids and quick relief nasal sprays.

Homeopathy, on the other hand, offers a different way of intervention. The patient is treated as per the symptoms restoring the body’s ability to self-heal thereby decreasing dependability on drugs. The best part being homeopathic drugs are free from chemicals and have no side effects.

You can choose to visit a homeopathy clinic or even self-treat through drugs available at homeopathy outlets where detailed symptoms and its prescribed dose can be found out. However, it is important to follow a prescribed dose at right intervals to ensure maximum benefit.

Homeopathic Remedies

  1. Allium cepa can be given when there is hay fever with too much runny nose and discharge is acrid.
  2. Ars alb can be given when there is hay fever with intense thirst.
  3. Nat mur can be given when there is hay fever with too much sneezing and frontal headache.
  4. Merc sol can be given when the patient is extremely sensitive to heat and cold.
  5. Aurundo is prescribed in case of hay fever with excessive burning and itching in the nose, palate, eyes.

All the medicines are generally indicated and needs a homeopathic consultation.

Dear, you have to be gentle while making love. Be sure at any time she did not contact infection by mishandling or sucking the nipple. Inflamed breast gives pain on touching or fondling. If breast is very tender on touch she may need a course of antibiotics, after you have seen the doctor.

7 year old daughter needs lots of proteins like milks curds plus nuts for good fats and proteins, carb, fats and vitamin and minerals through fresh fruits and vegetables plus lots of exercises to grow tall and to digest healthy food. Do give her a tablet of bandy for deworming so that food benefits her only and not the worms if any in the food pipe.
