I'm suffering from typhoid which was diagnosed on 29 june and consuming medicines from 30th june. I'm taking [cefixime (200 mg), PCM (500 MG) ]-2taps per day and Calcium-bicarbonate (500 mg), B-complex, both one tablet per day. I have no fever at all in typhoid except the body pain in hands, legs, arms. Sometimes the pain is so sudden in left arm and left leg or vice-versa. Initially when I was taking medicines, there was no such type of weakness. But from last 2-3 days, I am feeling very weak. I feel as if there is no life in body and this happens mostly in night around 10-11 pm. For how long I have to take medicines? And how can weakness be cured as I want to recover fast before 17-18july. What should I take in my diet to help it? PLEASE HELP.

continue medicines as per the advice of the doctor who prescribed the medicines. you better avoid food which irritates the stomach, eg oily and spicy food, nonvegetarian food etc. for a few days. you can continue the b-complex. along with these you take jawarish amla (available in hamdard outlet) one tea spoon two times daily. it will strengthen your digestive system.

Urinary Tract Infection - 8 Signs You Are Suffering From It!

Urinary Tract Infection - 8 Signs You Are Suffering From It!

The urinary tract starts from the kidneys to the urethra where urine is passed out. Given the rich concentration of minerals and toxic wastes, it is highly prone to multiple infections. UTI, as urinary tract infections are often referred to, is one of the most common infections. In women, especially, every 1 in 2 women is affected by an UTI. Whichever part of the tract is affected, the symptoms and treatment are mostly the same. Read on to know some of the most common symptoms and treatment options for these.

Symptoms

  1. A burning sensation with urination
  2. Pain with urination
  3. Burning sensation or pain in the urethra or vagina
  4. Frequent urge to urinate, though not much urine is passed out
  5. Sense of incomplete emptying of the bladder
  6. Pain in the lower back on the sides of the spine
  7. Change in the urine characteristics color, smell, or appearance
  8. Fever or chills, maybe associated with shivering, nausea and vomiting

Causes

Most urinary tract infections are bacterial in nature, and these could find their way into the body through multiple ways.

  1. The most common is through the urethra, which could happen due to unclean toilet habits.
  2. Women especially are advised to wipe the urethra after each toilet visit. The bacteria from the feces can also enter the urethra due to close proximity
  3. Use of unclean public toilets is another reason for UTIs

Tests

Though most often UTI does not require specific testing, the following are useful in confirming the diagnosis.

  1. Culture and sensitivity: The urine is sent for a culture to identify the exact organism that has caused the infection. It also helps identify the right antibiotic which will help bring the infection under control.

Treatment:

UTIs are very common infections and though there is nothing to worry, it should be cleared completely.

  1. Antibiotic course to get rid of the infection. Though you begin to feel better, the complete course should be completed to clear the infection.
  2. Following culture testing to ensure the infection is cleared
  3. Improve water intake to get rid of the toxins
  4. Fever and pain to be controlled with medications
  5. Healthy hygiene habits to ensure clearing of infection

Prevention:

Recurrent UTIs is a common problem, and the following can help prevent.

  1. Ensure complete emptying of the bladder
  2. Drink adequate water
  3. Safe toilet habits, including before and after sex
  4. Comfortable and clean underwear to prevent infection

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist.

Due to lots of work and stress I have body pain can you suggest something to get relief from the body pain? Can I take pain killer?

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DNB Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Nagpur
Yes. You may take pain killers for relief from from body aches. But its always better to treat the cause than the symptoms, if you are sure that body aches are due to overwork and stress, then restrict your work load to human limits and find time to relax and relieve stress with rest.

After how many days of sex one can check out that whether she is pregnant or not through a pregnancy kit and is there any tablet that can help in aborting and I want to know the name of those tablets which can help to have periods early.

Diploma in Family Medicine, M.Sc - Psychotherapy
Sexologist, Pune
You can check for pregnancy after the date of next due period, i. E. If you do not get our next period in time, check for pregnancy on the date of the expected date of period. There is no approved tablet therapy for causing abortions. The use and sale of such drugs is banned and is illegal. So if your pregnancy test is positive visit a gynecologist who can help you.

Dengue: Facts and prevention measures

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Dengue: Facts and prevention measures
With dengue cases on the rise, here's all you need to know about the spread and prevention measures of the disease.

The number of dengue cases, caused by viruses transmitted by mosquitoes, have been on the rise, as the monsoon season is underway. Here are some important facts about dengue and a few preventive measures you need to be aware of.

Facts about the Aedes mosquitoes

The Dengue virus is primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes do not lay eggs in drains, ditches, canals, wetlands, rivers or lakes. “What most people do not realise is that the dengue mosquito breeds in fresh clean water as opposed to dirty drains. Thus, people living in clean urban surroundings are more at risk of acquiring the disease,” says Dr KK Aggarwal, President HCFI & Honorary Secretary General IMA and a Padma Shri Awardee.

These mosquitoes can fly several hundred yards looking for water-filled containers, often found in a house and patio, to lay their eggs and it only takes a few mosquitoes in a household to produce a large dengue outbreak.

Humans are only bitten by the female mosquitoes who lay dozens of eggs, up to five times, during their life time. The eggs which can survive for months, hatch when submerged in water. The lifecycle of the mosquito is close to eight days - from egg to larvae, pupae and into an adult mosquito.

Tips to prevent dengue fever:
Do not let water accumulate in your house
Wear full-sleeve clothing
Use mosquito repellents, especially during the monsoon season
Since dengue is caused by a virus, it is the symptoms that are treated and the chronic phase of the illness with fever and myalgias lasts approximately one to two weeks.

The symptoms:
Severe joint and muscle pain
Swollen lymph nodes
Headache
Fever
Exhaustion - Rashes
While the risk of complications is in less than 1% of dengue cases, Dr Aggarwal has a few recommendations. The danger of dengue lies in dehydration, so it is vital to consume a lot of fluids and to only opt for a platelet transfusion if there is active bleeding or your platelet count is below 10,000.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear Lybrate User, Masturbation should not be done for more than twice in a week. Sperm cells are being continuously produced inside human testis. A single sperm cell needs about 4 months to mature before being ejaculated. Masturbating ejaculates many mature as well as immature sperm & results in the temporary deficit of sperm count. This loss of sperm results in the increased production of sperm. A sperm is mainly made up of protein. An increased production of sperm count needs a steady supply of protein. This supply of protein is met from the amount of protein we intake daily. Over masturbation increases the rate of production of sperm to such extent that the demand for protein cannot be fulfilled naturally & it often results in breakdown of protein from muscle tissues. This breakdown of muscle tissues is externally manifested as fatigue, weakness etc. Addiction to masturbation denotes that you are continuously indulged in sexual thoughts. This type of thoughts is common in people who live a sedentary life. If you really have a sedentary life-style you should get yourself out from it immediately. Socialize yourself. Do some physical exercise daily. Drink a lots of water. Create a routine of your daily schedule & maintain it. Stop watching porn in case you have developed a habit of watching it Also you can take Homoeopathic Mother Tincture ORIGANUM Q, 10 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. This medicine will help to control your excessive sexual desire. However, you can masturbate for twice in a week. In order to minimise the after-effects of over-masturbation you can take Homoeopathic CINCHONA OFFICINALIS 30 or CHINA 30, 5 drops, thrice daily in empty stomach. This medicine will help to fight the seminal debility caused by the sexual exertion created by over-masturbation. Also I would like to advise you to conduct your SEMEN ANALYSIS TEST. It will reveal the abnormalities in your semen if you really have any.
