Hi. My mouth is getting smell very badly. How can I cure it. Am having khane habit too. [hans]

BDS
Dentist, Jodhpur
Dear, Main causes of bad breath include: Tobacco: tobacco products cause their own types of mouth odor. Additionally, they increase the chances of gum disease which can also cause bad breath Food: the breakdown of food particles stuck in the teeth can cause odors. Some foods such as onions and garlic can also cause bad breath. Dry mouth: saliva naturally cleans the mouth. If the mouth is naturally dry (for instance, in the morning) or is dry due to a specific disease (such as xerostomia ), odors can build up Dental hygiene: brushing and flossing ensure the removal of small particles of food that can build up and slowly break down, producing odor. Crash diets / Fasting : fasting and low-carbohydrate eating programs can produce halitosis. Drugs/Medicines : certain medications can reduce saliva and, therefore, increase odors. Other drugs can produce odors as they breakdown and release chemicals in the breath. Mouth, nose and throat conditions: sometimes small, bacteria covered stones can form on the tonsils at the back of the throat and produce odor. Diseases: some cancers, liver failure and other metabolic diseases can cause halitosis due to specific mixes of chemicals that they produce. Lifestyle and home remedies for bad breath include: Brush teeth: brush at least twice a day, but preferably after each meal Floss: flossing reduces the build-up of food particles and plaque from between the teeth - brushing only cleans around 60% of the surface of the tooth Clean dentures: anything that goes into your mouth - dentures, bridge, mouth guard - should be cleaned as recommended on a daily basis. Brush tongue: bacteria, food and dead cells commonly build up on the tongue, especially in smokers so brushing the tongue is beneficial for that. Avoid dry mouth: drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol and tobacco, both of which dehydrate the mouth. Chewing gum or sucking a sweet (preferably sugar-free) can help stimulate the production of saliva. Diet: avoid onions, garlic and spicy food. Sugary foods are also linked to bad breath. Reduce coffee and alcohol consumption. If all above don't work then it's recommended to go for a good dentist. Let me know if I can help you in any possible way. HAVE A GREAT AND HEALTHY LIFE AHEAD :) Regards, Dr. Shalini Tolani.

I am 22 year old male. I have noticed that my gums are getting separated from the teeth. It seems to be like gums are getting eroded and roots of the teeth are visible. I have been using sensodine from past 2 year and I've noticed receding gums problem recently. Could you please guide me for the above and prescribe me the required medication for the remedies. It should be noted that I've been taking vitamin c pills from past one month for skin problem under doctors prescription. Should I stop or continue with the pills.

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
Vitamin c is actually good for gum health. It seems that your brushing technique is not correct. Use soft or ultra soft bristles toothbrush, use it with vertical strokes and at 45 degree angle away from gums. You can also use rolling motion to clean the teeth but not horizontal motion. Its most damaging for both teeth and gums. Regarding already damaged gum problem you need to visit a dental expert.

There is no such way to whiten your teeth other than bleaching. There can be little change if you use home bleach. You can ask me privately about it.

I am 25 years old male and facing problem in my teeth since 2 month. My teeth is sensitive and sometimes pain in my last teeth in bottom row. What should I do?

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist,
Hello. This is the age where the wisdom tooth erupts into position. Pain and sensitiveness is due to impingement of wisdom tooth on to the 2nd molar. This condition is called impaction. The tooth can be removed by mild surgical procedure under local anesthesia. Hope this helps.

I have very dirty teeth. Some looks little brownish what should I do to make it perfect white. & strong.

MDS
Dentist, Chennai
These brown stains could be from inside the tooth (brown teeth could be due to a condition called fluorosis.) or outside the tooth. If they are outside the tooth you can get you teeth cleaned by scaling by visiting a dentist. If they are due to fluorosis bleaching or someother procedure depending on severity can be done. If it is mild, best to leave it alone.

I am 24 year. Old girl and I am suffering from bleeding gums all time even m having yellow teeth with some hard black stuff between my gumline and teeth. Please suggest me the proper treatment.

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Gandhidham
You have tarter and calculus deposited on teeth surface and between gums and teeth surfaces. Due to that infaction is spread on gums and leads to swellown and bleeding gum problems. You require through scaling and polishing followed by further examination of periodontal pocket and require opg xray to rule out status of bone. Kindly consult dentist or periodontist regarding treatment of your problems.
