Sir prostate enlargement can be benign or malignant. It needs evaluation by serum psa levels, sonography, and transrectal multiple core biopsy for confirmation. If it is benign can be started on some medications or else treatment as per the diagnosis.

Sir/madam my mother hemoglobin is 10.4gm% n polymorph 18%. How to increase hemoglobin and polymorph. Which diet should be followed? N she's complete chemotherapy n radiation for breast cancer and which diet she's follwes please tell me to increase hemoglobin n polymorph.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
She has to follow hygienic diet plans as we plan for oncology patients with lots of proteins, carbohydrate low fat, minerals and vitamins. Means she can take cooked leafy vegetables, hygienically cleaned fruits if counts are normal, sprouts, jaggery if non diabetic. You can consume nonveg but avoid red meat, non spicy, and adequately cooked. Counts will improve with time.

Leukaemia or rarely cancer with bone marrow involvement can cause low platelets. But more common causes are septicaemia, dengue, chemotherapy, hypersplenism or idiopathic.

Breast Pain - 6 Ways To Treat It!

Breast Pain - 6 Ways To Treat It!

Breast pain, also known as mastalgia, can be termed as any type of discomfort, pain or tenderness in and around the breast or the underarm region. It can also be accompanied by a sharp pain or a burning sensation.

There are two major types of breast pain

  1. Cyclical Pain: As the name suggests, this type of pain occurs on a cyclic basis and is linked with one’s menstrual cycle. It may happen when one is going through her periods and is influenced by hormonal imbalances. This type of pain is generally not a cause of concern.

  2. Non-Cyclical Pain: This is generally not common and its cause can be linked to a variety of reasons; cancer or a malignant tumour in the breast being the most severe consequence.

Causes of Breast Pain

  1. Lumpy breasts along with soreness and pain can be caused due to fibrocystic breast tissue.

  2. Hormonal imbalance can also lead to pain or discomfort in and around the breast region. Abnormal prolactin limits can also be a contributing factor.

  3. Breast cancer can also lead to pain, mostly in the left breast. Along with the pain, it can also induce a dull ache, tightness or heaviness in the chest.

Treatments for Breast pain

The various treatments for cyclical breast pain include:

  1. Making modifications in the diet

  2. Administering Vitamin E and calcium supplements

  3. Including thyroid hormonal supplements in the diet

  4. Reducing sodium intake in your diet

  5. For non-cyclical breast pain, which is often the cause of cancer, a thorough examination is recommended. A clinical biopsy will be advised if the lumpy tissues make the tumour harder to be detected through a mammogram.

  6. If the pain is on account of an injury, then appropriate painkillers will have to be administered to reduce the pain. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

I had total thyroidectomy due to Thyroid cancer, calcium is in control, using 1000 mg of 1 Calcium tablet per day. And Eltroxin of 200 mcg. Problem is some times my heart races and some times I get pain in heart region. Is this because of Eltroxin? Are these symptoms dangerous? Because I never had racing heart and pain after surgery I noticed it after starting Eltroxin. I told my Doctor same but he says my body needs 200 mcg of dosage. What should I do now? I am worried if these symptoms are life threatening and can they lead to other problems? Please suggest.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Have you checked the TSH levels recently> Please check the same and comeback. Thyroxine is essential, but if the dosage is high, it can hasten the heart and also lead to pain. Thanks.

I feel a breast lump in lower side of breast & its also feel light pain before year I would do ultrasound through consult of my doctor but he said no problem is seen in ultrasound then recent it feels that lump size is increased what you suggest doctor please help me!

If you have felt a lump in the breast, it is better to show it to a Breast Surgeons a Surgical oncologist. They would take a detailed history and examine you and if need be, ask for a repeat ultrasound examination to see if they can find the lump now. Fibrocystic changes are very common and are common cause of breast pain especially cyclical. Some times some of the cysts may enlarge causing a lot of pain, which need to be aspirated. Also they need to rule out other causes of pain like ill fitting bra, trauma, abscess and sometimes fibroadenoma or rarely cancer. Feel free to contact me directly if you want to discuss this further.
