My teeth become yellow near gum lines after scaling even when I brush two times a day. I am thinking to go for teeth polishing. Will it remove my remaining enamel also?

Polishing will not remove enamel normally for everybody the tooth is yellower near the gums than the edge side. If it is a external deposit then scaling and polishing will help. Make sure you brush all tooth and its surfaces properly.

Hi. It looks like a serious issue. Benzene is a very volatile compound. Mainly it affects the body through inhalation. And as you r saying it got spilled on your tongue. So in that case, even 0.1 mg of benzene in a litre of drinking water is cancerous. So I suggest to be under regular check up of an oncologist to detect any disease if it starts. Take care.

Why do we get mouth ulcers regularly? please help me with some of the precautions.

Ask Free Question
Dear lybrate user, mouth ulcers could be due to multiple reasons like stress (the most common and important one), vitamin or nutritional deficiency, anemia, eating excess fried food, dehydration etc. Establishing the exact cause in case of frequent or non-healing ulcers is important. Normally, they heal in 7-14 days time. Drinking plenty of fluids and water, eating fruits, salads and vegetables, avoiding oily/fried food, developing a healthy smoke-free, alcohol-free lifestyle and staying stress-free are some of the precautions.

I have bleeding gums. and most of the time I have yellowish teeth so how to remove this ?

BDS

Ask Free Question
The dentist, periodontist, or dental hygienist removes the plaque through a deep-cleaning method called scaling and root planing. Scaling means scraping off the tartar from above and below the gum line. Root planing gets rid of rough spots on the tooth root where the germs gather, and helps remove bacteria that contribute to the disease.

Wisdom teeth can erupt anywhere between the age of 17 years and the mid-20s. It is usually accompanied by pain, sensitivity, and discomfort in chewing food. The pain also may radiate to head, neck and ear. For transient relief, you can go for pain killers and any antibacterial mouthwash, to keep the area clean, which may be difficult to clean otherwise with a toothbrush. Permanent treatment usually involves either removal of the gum tissue covering the wisdom tooth (if it is present in your case), or extraction of the tooth. Extraction will not cause you any problem with eating food, and it doesn’t need to be replaced, unlike other teeth.

When you think of what strikes you first about anybody, majority of people would say the smile. There is nothing more endearing than a warm, friendly smile. When you think more about it, the smile has a huge emotional component to it. This is in addition to the esthetic and artistic value that a smile carries. There are some people who are renowned for their smiles, which is said to be so bright, which led to the term'1000-watt smile, good enough to light up a big room!

Dentistry has evolved over the last few decades to play a major role in a person's appearance. From the shape and size of the teeth to the contour of the jaws and lips to the angle of the smile, there is something dentists can help with. There are specific proportions that are believed to produce a perfect smile, width of the eyes, distance between the eyes, width of the mouth, etc. With more and people realizing that their smiles can be improved, the demand for these is also increasing.

The new development in improving smile is the digital smile design (dsd) that was developed by a ceramician (technician involved in making ceramic crowns) in brazil in 2007, Mr. Christian coachman. This basically involves taking a series of digital photographs and videos of the patient. These are then transferred to the computer and analyzed for the various proportions mentioned above. These images are then manipulated to achieve the correct proportions and reproduce a smile with the correct dimensions. To be doubly sure, these images are also shared with a larger group of dentists and then approval sought.

Detailed discussions are held with the patient on how this will reflect once the change is done. Once changes suggested by the dentist are accepted by the patient and incorporated, then the patient's smile is reconstructed using the calculated analysis and post that the smile correction is done. A successful digital smile design is a great example of teamwork as multidisciplinary teams from dentistry are involved.
The result is an enhanced smile that improves the patient's perception of beauty and also improves their confidence levels and feelings of self-worth and self-esteem. It is to be noted that what a person wants to express with his smile can be taken into account when designing a smile.

The major advantage of dsd is that there is no need for any special equipment and the digital equipment that is part of most dental setups is sufficient to design a smile. Smile designing is only poised to grow more popular in the coming years, with the greater focus on appearance and beauty.

Yellowish teeth can be due to dirt which goes away with cleaning by dentist. The other type is enamel weakness which might need special treatment like veneering with composite or ceramic crowns.
