As we celebrate the Doctors’ day today, I wish to take this opportunity to hand over the 3 mantras to happiness. We all lead a very stressful life. Many of us have medical issues like hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol issues and so on. What should we do or should we have done rather so that we wouldn’t suffer from these lifestyle diseases?
As the maxim goes, you are what you eat. I would like to stress here that, diet is the single most important factor in our life which determines our longevity and disease pattern. Hence, it is important to eat right. Our diet should have a mix of about 40% complex carbohydrates like oats, whole wheat, brown bread, ragi, semolina and so on. High quality proteins should contribute 30% of our diet. Eggs, chicken, fish, meat, dal and pulses are good examples. Fats especially MUFA and PUFA should make 20% of the diet. Classic examples are sunflower oil, olive oil, rice bran oil. Avoid saturated fats, trans fats, margarine, ghee and butter. Pastry, Khari biscuits, toasts, cookies are rich in unhealthy saturated fats; hence best avoided. We should consume at least 3 servings of fruit daily. This is important because fruits are rich in vitamins, fibre and anti-oxidants.
A rested mind in a rested body is the best state of happiness. We need to sleep at least 7 to 8 hours daily. The body recharges during the rest and makes it ready for the next day aggressions. With the smartphone entering our bedroom, the sleep pattern has been disturbed. We end up sleeping late while checking Whats App messages and so on. As a result the total sleep duration goes down and we get up in an irritable and sleep deprived state. Such a state is not conducive to healthy work the next day. Avoid checking smartphone apps and messages, reading newspapers just before sleeping and avoid tea/coffee/caffeine in any form post 7pm. This will make sure we sleep on time and get up on time.
This is the last and the most important mantra that can lead to ultimate bliss and happiness. We need to exercise at least 30 min daily for 5 days a week. This can be aerobic exercises like cycling, swimming, jogging, running and so on. Weight lifting for 45 min daily for about 5 days a week is ideal to build a well sculpted and muscular beach body that we all want. Exercising keeps our joints mobile, conditions our heart to strain, releases growth hormone and testosterone which keep you young. Endorphins released in the brain during the exercise make you feel good as though you are on the seventh sky.

Hi Doctor I am 26 (2016) years old and trying to conceive. I was diagnosed with PCOD in 2009 and was given Krimson 35 for three months I got my periods regularly but had many side effects stopped medication and practiced yoga diet and had regular periods. I got married in 2013 and from oct 2014 trying for baby. We used only withdrawal method for pregnancy during early days no medicationThen I started trying to get pregnant in oct 2014 and after three months jan 2015 went to doctor and took test ultrasound and all. All test came normal and I had cyst only in right ovaries. Doc asked me to take duphaston 10mg from 24th day of the cycle and have contact from 14-24 by I miss understood and took duphaston from 14-24 for four cycles. I went o doc again she asked to stop all medicines as you took it in wrong dates it would have confused hormones. Doc said you try for one year reduce weight (i am 150 cm 54 kgs) diet and come after a year. She told take folic and glycomet tried for four monthly cycles were irregular 36 day 39 days like thatThen my husband went to onsite from sep 2015 - dec 2015i did not take any medicine then. My periods were irregular then also. Since he came back on dec I went to doc she agin told have duphaston for 2 cycle (from 24th day for 1 week) and come. I had for one cycle got my periods thought from jan 2016 I will try for 6 months with folic acid alone and then go to doc. Jan 11 was start date of the cycle now it is feb 26, it is 47 days of the cycle. No periods negative test. I had single drop of blood on 31 and 32 days fo this cycle I am doing yoga for 1 hour daily and gym for 30 mins. My questions are1. Can I still be pregnant? 2. What could be reason for this confusion3. I stopped taking glycomet 850 and had only folic acid could that cause this delayed periods? 4. What are the next steps I should do5. How long does duphaston tablet have effects in our body. Will no taking that cause delayed periods.

गर्भधारण के लिए कैसे करें सेक्स
पति-पत्नी के बीच यौन संबंध का एक लक्ष्य माता-पिता बनना भी होता है। वात्सयायन के कामसूत्र में संभोग की स्थितियों यानी पोजीशंस के बारे में बताया गया है। इसी में ऐसी पोजीशन भी बताई गई हैं, जिनमें संभोग करने से गभीधारण आसान हो जाता है। आज हम आपको कुछ पोजीशंस बताएंगे, जो गर्भधारण में सहायक होती हैं। साथ ही हम आपको कुछ टिप्स भी देंगे- गर्भधारण के लिए दो पोजीशन में सेक्स करना फलदायक रहता है- मिशनरी पोजीशन: इस स्थिति में संभोग के समय पुरुष ऊपर की ओर होता है।
इस पोजीशन में संभोग करने से पुरुष का वीर्य सीधे स्त्री के गर्भाशय तक सीधा पहुंचता है। पुरुष के ऊपर रहने से गर्भधारण आसान हो जाता है। इसके विपरीत यदि स्त्री ऊपर की ओर रहती है, तो गर्भधारण की संभावनाएं काफी कम हो जाती हैं। हैंड एण्ड नी पोजीशन (डॉगी स्टाइल): इस पोजीशन में स्त्री घुटनों और हाथ के बल लेट जाती है और पुरुष पीछे की ओर से संभोग करता है। ऐसी स्थिति में वीर्य आसानी से महिला के गर्भाशय तक आसानी से पहुंचता है। कुछ देर आराम करें यदि आप गर्भधारण करना चाहती हैं, तो उपर्युक्त दोनों पोजीशंस पर संभोग करने के बाद कुछ देर आराम करें। बेड पर कूदें नहीं। चाहे जितने जरूरी काम क्यों न हों, संभोग के तुरंत बाद बिस्तर से उठने की जरूरत नहीं।
यदि आपने मिशनरी पोजीशन में सेक्स किया है, तो संभोग करते समय या फिर संभोग के बाद स्त्री अपनी कमर के नीचे तकिया लगा लें, ताकि वीर्य गुरुत्वाकर्षण बल के जरिए नीचे की ओर आसानी से पहुंच सके।
यदि संभोग के समय ही तकिया लगा लिया है तो अच्छा रहता है।
ऐसे में कम से कम आधे घंटे तक स्त्री को शांतिपूर्वक लेटे रहना चाहिए। कुछ लोग मानते हैं कि संभोग के बाद यदि स्त्री पीठ के बल लेटकर अपने पैर ऊपर कर के थोड़ी देर लेटी रहे तो गर्भधारण की संभावना बढ़ जाती है। ऐसा करना फलदायक हो सकता है। हालांकि यह बात अभी तक सिद्ध नहीं हुआ है। कौन स समय सही कुछ लोगों का मानना है कि दिन के समय सेक्स करने गर्भधारण की संभावना अधिक रहती है। इसके पीछे उनका तर्क यह होता है कि रात्रि की तुलना में दिन में वीर्य में शुक्राणु की संख्या अधिक होती है। वहीं हाल ही में हुए एक शोध में पता चला है कि गर्भधारण के लिए सेक्स का सही समय शाम पांच से सात बजे के बीच का होता है। इस दौरान वीर्य में शुक्राणु की संख्या करीब 35 प्रतिशत तक ज्यादा होती है।
शाम का यह समय ऐसा होता है, जब महिला के अंडाशय ज्यादा जल्दी क्रिया करते हैं। हालांकि यहां स्त्री को मासिक धर्म का ध्यान रखें। इन पोजीशन में न करें सेक्स यदि आप गर्भधारण चाहती हैं, तो इन बातों को जरूर ध्यान रखें, जो आपको नहीं करनी हैं। पहली यह कि संभोग के दौरान महिला ऊपर नहीं हो। ऐसे में शुक्राणु सर्विक्स के पास जमा हो जाते हैं। और थोड़ी ही देर में वापस लौट आते हैं, जिस कारण वो अंडाशय तक पहुंच नहीं पाते। इसके अलावा बैठकर, बगल में लेटकर और खड़े होकर सेक्स नहीं करें। इन सभी स्थितियों में शुक्राणुओं के गर्भाशय के पास जमा होने की संभावना ज्यादा होती है। हां कई बार वीर्य के निकलते समय शुक्राणु की गति अधिक होती है और ज्यादा संवेग होने के कारण शुक्राणु अपने लक्ष्य तक पहुंच जाते हैं और गर्भधारण हो जाता है।

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a medical condition related to a woman’s endocrine system. Generally, this disorder is characterised by an imbalance of the sex hormones (oestrogen and progesterone), which leads to the development of multiple small cysts in the ovaries. Symptoms of PCOS include acne, irregular menstrual cycle and depression to name a few.
The causes of PCOS have not been accurately identified so far, but researchers suggest that the following factors might contribute to the onset of the condition.
1. Increased amount of insulin secretion- Women suffering from insulin resistance may get PCOS as their body is not able to effectively use this insulin, which results in increased insulin secretion by the pancreas. This, in turn, triggers more androgen (male sex hormone) production in the ovaries, making it difficult for the ovaries to ovulate.
2. Lower inflammation levels- The white blood cells present in your body form resistance against infections through a response termed as inflammation. Women with lower inflammation levels are likelier to get PCOS as the decreased levels stimulate polycystic ovaries, thereby producing more androgens.
3. Genetic factor- If you have a family history of PCOS, it’s highly probable that you may also get it as the disease is linked with your genes.
How To Live with PCOS
PCOS comes with numerous side effects like acne, obesity, infertility, excessive facial or body hair among others. There are certain lifestyle changes, which you may consider to manage PCOS and minimise its side effects.
1. Change your diet - Opt for a low carbohydrate, low sugar diet to keep your insulin levels in control, as insulin is responsible for increasing the severity of PCOS symptoms.
2. Try to maintain an ideal body weight - Obesity is known for worsening insulin resistance, and you can prevent this by regularly keeping your weight in check. You can practice some easy at-home exercise to reduce weight besides having a balanced diet.
3. Get yourself checked regularly - Visit a doctor and get yourself checked regularly for potential health risks as PCOS is often associated with increased chances of diabetes, heart diseases, certain forms of cancer, hypertension, and high LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.
4. Join a support group - Joining a PCOS support group will help you cope with your emotional difficulties, while helping you to live a better life by cultivating an optimistic outlook. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.
