Applying cold compresses to the painful knee is one of the best and easiest ways to reduce pain and swelling. The cold will constrict the blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the affected area and thus reducing swelling. It will also give you relief from the pain. 1.Wrap a handful of ice cubes in a thin towel. 2.Apply the compress to the affected knee area for 10 to 20 minutes. 3.Do this two or three time daily until your pain is gone. Take Mag phos 6x – 4 tabs twice daily for next 10 days.

At your age the arthritis in your knee joints must be in an advanced stage. Hence total knee replacement will relieve your pain and restore mobility to a great extent. Varicose veins behind the knees may not be a problem for doing the surgery, but it can predispose you to develop dvt after surgery. If adequate precautions are undertaken to prevent dvt, then your surgery and postoperative period will turn out to be uneventful.

General Knee Pain: Due to any strain This is a general strain due to excessive walking or standing and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes. One time you can do hot water fermentation that would help to reduce the muscle strain. Osteoarthritic Pain:Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee Exercises would help to strengthen the quadriceps muscle which is the key muscle. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping a soft ball underneath the knee and you have to keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone.

Hi, I have shoulder pain from a year and a half. When it increses the shoulder muscles stiffen and I have a neck pain as well. X ray shows normal and so does MRI. Both shows that I am normal however I am having excruciating pain. Currently the Pain came down to my left arm a little. When I massage the pain decreases for a week or so and again it comes back to life as it was before. Please Advice,

Hello Mr. Joy, this is Dr.Vyas. Which type of pain you have ? Is it muscular type or radiating pain like tingling or numbness? I think this may be due to muscle weakness or your one muscle injured its supraspinetus. You have to do hot fermentation and thera band ex. Well wishes, get well soon.

You have to eat smaller meals 5-6 meals per day and take lots of fruits and vegetables ; do exercises early morning take vit b rich fruits take bakery foods to increase your weight and ofcourse all foods in proper rda quantity.

Dear I think we need more information to understand the cause of pain. Maybe you have shin splint which is a common sports injury and acl rupture is coincidental.

It might of muscle fatigue and do consult neuro physio and learn stretching exercise and do consult dietician for diet chart on your routine based.

Hello. Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight, avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). Lie down on bed on your back without pillow. Exercise: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. Get back to me thereafter.

Since you are a runner, shin pain may be because of a tiny break in the bone of your leg. This is called stress fracture. It is due to repeated stress on your bone due to the running. In order to confirm an xray has to be done. The treatment usually involves rest and allow the bone to heal. Vit D and calcium might not help a great deal in the healing.

Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

It can be due to variety of reason like hypertension, peptic ulcer, anxiety, heart pathology, migraine, muscle pain, costocondral inflammation. Etc. Get yourself investigated for chest x ray, blood culture, cardiac enzymes etc. To reduce symptoms: 1)Get plenty of rest. If you have an infection or a muscle injury, rest can help you recover and recuperate. 2) Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen can help reduce symptoms of headache and chest pain. 3) Apply a warm compress to your head, neck, and shoulders. Taking a shower can also have soothing effects on a headache. 4) Minimize stress in your life as much as possible. Stress can contribute to headaches and body pain. From meditation to exercise to reading, there are many activities that can help you reduce stress in your life.

1) do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min. Afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) start natural calcium supplement. 3) do regular stretching exercise 4) in yoga do bhujangasan, halasan & suryanamaskar. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have chronic back pains and you have also stated that you have taken treatment from many doctors. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Low bone density is a factor in females of your age group especially if they have had their menopause earlier but it should not cause back pain since a long time, although if you have low bmd, it will require treatment as well.
