I feel all anxiety attack symptoms, heart palpitation, always fell to cry, suicidal thoughts, guilt, hopelessness, inability to feel pleasure, loneliness, loss of interest, mood swings, panic attack, sadness, or emotional distress. My behavior like excessive crying, irritability, self-harm, or social isolation, running thoughts mostly negative So my physiatrist told that I am patient Major depressive disorder and anxiety and prescribed Stalopam 10 mg (half tablet for 2 days and after that 1 per day). He said I’ll be totally fine within 2 week. Will this medicine work and will I be fine for always.

Dear friend, this medicine will take about 2 weeks to help you with your symptoms. You will have to take medicine for a longer time. I would suggest to also work with a psychologist to address the issues behind your feelings. This will help you start discovering the triggers and also learn tools to tackle the same. Building resilience and learning to manage the stressors associated with the problem is the best way to deal the issue in a long term. These medicines are good but for a long term use have addictive effects, so dose will increase. These medicines also come with their own side effects. In a nut shell, start the medicine, this will help you with the symptoms in 2 weeks. Along with that start counselling to work on route problem. Feel free to contact me if you have any concerns for questions. Hope this helps, wishing you very best,

Now I'm just experiencing chest pain in the muscles above the ribcage when I smoke or touch or press those muscles. I have never experienced such conditions before, I had my echo test done a couple of years back before I started smoking, everything was fine then.

Dear user. I can understand. As the case is related to chest pain it is always advised to get medical check up and ECG done by a cardiologist. Though there is nothing to worry about, you should confirm from a competent professional. Anxiety and stress related to smoking can cause your chest pain. I suggest you to quit smoking and then go for anxiety related psychotherapies. Take care.

Sir, I am suffering from Sugar & B. P What food can I take in morning, Afternoon and Night.
A diabetic person has to consume food like everyone else. However, total calories have to be restricted based on one's weight, sugar levels and amount of exercise done per day. You have not mentioned the sugar levels at all, secondly no info on level of physical activity. Further, you are overweight with a bmi of 27.7 kg/m2. Hence, your diet has to provide you a maximum of 1400 calories per day. I can not actually prescribe the whole diet here, but please keep in mind to avoid sweets, deep fried foods and fruits like mango, chikkoos, grapes and bananas. Consume more green vegetables and salads, whole grain flours, and eat more frequently but less quantity at a time.

Hello, Few lifestyle changes can help you in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.

When all the reports related to heart are normal it is less likely to be cardiac. The cervical x ray shows involvement of nerve roots supplying areas on chest, back, shoulders, axilla etc hence the pain is most likely to be neuaralgia. Stretch your neck and avoid forward bending of neck. If needed a cervical collar may be used to prevent forward bending of neck. Do not use pillows below head and do not sit in or lie down in abnormal postures in sofas while viewing television. This will definitely help in reducing your pain.

Cholesterol level should be measured at least once every five years in everyone over age 20. The screening test that is usually performed is a blood test called a lipid profile. Experts recommend that men ages 35 and older and women ages 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. The lipoprotein profile includes: Total cholesetrol LDL (low-density lipoprotein CHOLESETROL also called "bad"CHOLESTETROL HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) TRIGLYCERIDES (fats carried in the BLOOD from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into TRIGLYCERIDES and stored in fat cells throughout the body. High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. GARLIC,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines . Cap. 5 Must-do Lifestyle Changes For a Healthy HEART

DM (CARDIOLOGY), MD (MEDICINE), MBBS
Cardiologist, Gurgaon
5 Must-do Lifestyle Changes For a Healthy HEART

Lifestyle is one of the best defences against heart disease. All you need to do to maintain good heart health is to just make simple but significant changes to your lifestyle. By doing so, you end up minimising the risk factors associated with heart disease such as coronary artery disease.

The lifestyle changes that you must make for a healthy heart are:

1. Be physically active - Research by Harvard University shows that watching television for 2 hours a day can increase your chances of developing heart disease by 15%. But if you exercise or indulge in some kind of physical activity for about 30 minutes every day, you can significantly improve the health of your heart as any kind of physical activity improves your blood circulation as well as blood pressure.

2. Maintain a healthy body weight - Having a low body weight or a high one can also put you at risk of getting heart disease. For a good heart health, you need to protect it from fatigue and damage. By keeping your weight at an optimum level, your blood circulation, as well as body fluids, end up working efficiently, protecting your heart from unnecessary strain.

3. Have a balanced diet - Foods that are low in calories but high in fibre and nutrients are what your heart needs to stay healthy. A very common cause of heart disease is the consumption of high cholesterol foods like processed meats, desserts, etc. Including seafood like tuna or salmon, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins such as chicken and fish to your diet can reduce your risk of developing heart disease.

4. Manage stress - Stress is another factor that causes you to have poor heart health. To prevent the damaging effect that stress can have on your heart, exercising is what you should do. This is because when you exercise, you release endorphins (brain chemicals that trigger a feel-good feeling in your body), which help in improving your physical and mental makeup. Additionally, exercising has also been found to reduce your chances of dying from a heart attack.

5. Quit smoking - Research reveals that smoking raises your chance of getting heart disease by about 2-4 times. It causes plaque (fatty deposits) to accumulate and harden in your arteries, making your heart to exert itself harder than normal. By kicking the habit, you reduce the strain that is caused to your lungs, thereby to your heart.
