No formula milk is better than mother's milk n there should not be any reason for not sufficient milk. There may be problem with proper posture to feed to satisfaction of baby.

Viral fever stains immunity after one attacks but existence of very many virus types and subtypes with similar signs and symptoms that it look to be recurrence. Antibiotics have no role in viral treatment. You can give fever drugs and cold drugs for few days. Please look after diet at home to be given in small but four times. Fruits also will help.

My baby 19 month & his weight only 8.2 kg? how should I will increase his weight?
We consider a good weight gain if weight is double the birth weight at 5 months, triple at 1 year and 4 times at 2 yrs of age. At his age, you should give 2 milk feeds and 4 solid meals, stop breast feeds.

Worms is generally a family problem though all will not show symptoms. So all family members should be treated at the same time with bandy. Also look for any other source for repeated infection. Keep nails cut properly. Eat only home food as it's more hygienic that any outside food. Wash hands properly before eating. See area around motion area for redness. Treat constipation if any.

My son is about 6 years 6months old suffering allergy-asthma from approximately 3 years back. Budecort (100 mg) inhaler & levolin inhaler, montelukast 5mg is consuming everyday as per advice of doctor. Please suggest.

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
In my opinion combine budecart 100 with formetrol a long acting beta 2 agonist 200, to be given by spacer and reduce dependence on levolin inhalation. In good control asthmatics need of levolin inh. Should be nil /less than once/week. This combination is available in market with different name like budamate 100/200.

My baby is 4 years old Has cold for last 3 months regularly. Its symptoms is like starting running nose then, blocked nose, then snoring, then getting heavy cough while sleeping, then chest cold, then get like cure. But not cure, again it will be start from running nose, blocked nose, snoring, cough etc. Its happening last 3 months randomly. We taken Levocitrize, asthalin, levolin (as per doctor advice) etc. Etc. But still not cure. Please advice what we can do? Thanks.

MD Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
This is common problem with children of this age group, need not worry as the children go to school they may catch up cold or cough from other children as it is very communicable. As children grow old they develop immunity. Just keep away from dust and cold air and water. Try to give proper steam inhalation once they catch up cold.

My baby who is 3 months old keeps crying even when she is not hungry or for no reason. continuous crying for so long without any reason. Please suggest the possible reason and do we have any solution for the same. How long this crying activity last.

My baby who is 3 months old keeps crying even when she is not hungry or for no reason.
continuous crying for so long ...
This is the typical age when babies become colicky. Also many a times a young mother unknowingly may keep the baby to wrapped, too warm. Babies may cry due to nasal block, ear ache or a painful joint. It is good idea to to take the baby for a good check up to a competent pediatrician as excessive crying should not be taken lightly.

Daily Habits That Have Been Damaging Your Teeth!

Daily Habits That Have Been Damaging Your Teeth!

Using tooth picks

The worst habit you could possibly have when you have food lodgement in the mouth is using a tooth pick to get rid of it. We often try and use this as an acceptable habit even socially but few things are grosser than watching people pick out food bits after meals. If you have a cavity get it fixed. We have numerous cases where the toothpicks have either injured the gums and caused a larger infection or even worse broken in the cavity and triggered of even more pain. So stay safe from dental emergencies do not use tooth picks! while it's important to prevent food lodgement in the mouth and keep your mouth clean use things like brushes interdental brushes and floss sticks or dentists to help you do the same without harming you!

Using a hard or medium brush.

The oldest myth we have seen is brushing your teeth with a hard or medium brush. Please terminate this habit right away ensure you switch to a soft brush at the earliest.

We do not need more teeth ruined or worn off due to overzealous brushing. We see cases with the entire left side worn down and sensitive and I can tell the person is a right handed vigorous brusher. The softer the brush the better it bends and cleans between teeth as well. The gums also recede due to repeated trauma from the hard bristles so save your mouth from these constant attacks in the name of cleaning.

Scrubbing your teeth

The same principle applies when you switch from a hard to soft or extra soft brush don't apply so much pressure that the teeth and gums are still braving the injury.

You need to brush gently as though cleaning glass the force being minimum the reach and coverage being maximum!

So scrubbing is a habit we need to stop.

Not brushing at night

One of the best things we can do to avoid the dentist or any dental troubles is brushing at night. When it comes to cleaning your teeth frequency matters more than force. Ensuring you clean every 12 hours makes bacterial attacks that cause decay inactive so whenever we skip brushing at night we may not realise but it's definitely costing us.

Popping painkillers

The first sign of dental pain and we instinctively choose to ignore it hoping it will go away and if it doesn't we want to go ahead and pop a painkiller till it does. Masking the problem will actually make it bigger -while we all know this we prefer to accept the instant relief the medication provides over the tedious dental visit that may end with bad news. But imagine if we had gone at the very first sign of trouble most likely we would get away with a dental cleaning -the later we go the more often we need to go for extensive treatments.

Let's try and muster the courage to nip these problems in the bud -a habit to develop show up at the very first sign of trouble.

Do it yourself dentistry (diy) at home

We have all been our own dentists at some point!

From self medication to oral applications and home remedies when all else fails we make an appointment.

A few things are harmful and should be used with care when attempting our own dental care.

We recommend mild things like oral rinses or applications which relieve pain but do not use aspirin or any other pain killer to crush and put in the site, that can cause burns.

Also clove oil is a safe remedy but not cloves which can be sharp and hurt your cheek.

Do not try to remove shaking teeth or attempt any procedures the bleeding can be profuse and the damage severe.

In case of trauma ice to freeze the blows and water to clean the wound will work best.

In the age of technology and information let's not fall prey to easily avoidable dental habits that harm you more than they help you.

Write to us or call us at 9209200024 if you have any queries.

I requested you to suggest a good treatment for my daughter age 3 years she is not interested to take any food his weight is 9.8 kg.

BHMS
Homeopath, Gurgaon
Your daughter is underweight. She needs a good nutritious diet to help her in physical and mental growth. Be creative. Make her food look interesting, colourful. You can cut paranthas, sandwiches in interesting shapes n serve with jam/ green chutney/ salsa/cucumber raita etc. Involve her in grocery n fruit/ veg shopping. Tell her what you r buying and why shd we eat it. Make meal times a family affair. Let the whole family sit together, serve the food nicely and involve her in setting up the table etc. You can add vegs to khicdi/ dalia/ upma or make veg soup/ tikkis/idlis / paranthas. Dals / chanas can b sprouted and given as colourful tasty salad. Fruits can be served as shakes/ smoothies/ custard/ pies etc. Give her a variety of foods n flavours. Do not give her junk food or aerated drinks bcos they r addictive n very poor in nutritional value. You can give her homoeopathic alfalfa tonic (paediatric)/1 tsp/ twice a day 30 minutes before meals for 10 days. Bringing up children is a task that requires a lot of skill and patience. All the best.

At this age babies stool colour sometimes vary but as long as no other concern and feeding well, we don't need to give medicine. Just monitor feeding and urine output and if fine then we can keep watch only. Take care.

You can feed with spoon and the best is to give breast milk aways and now you can start homemade semisolids also.
