I am 34 years old man and I am having stains all over my teeth. I brush my teeth regularly. I am a non smoker, I do not take tobacco, pan, or pan masala. I am a non alcoholic drinker also. But I do not understand why I am having those stains on my teeth. Please suggest the reason and cure for that.

Dear lybrate-user, the symptoms which you have described relate to gum disease in which there are calculus, tartar, plaque deposits on the teeth and the gums become weak and swollen. There is also bleeding from the gums and foul smell from the mouth. The teeth become loose this maybe what is commonly known as pyorrhoea. You need to consult a qualified dentist and get your teeth cleaned and the gums treated.

I'm getting so many cavities, and I want to know how I can prevent them. I brush, use mouthwash, and floss.

The only way to prevent cavities is to brush & floss your teeth at least twice daily & also to consult a dentist once every six months. Even then cavities will happen but it can be best delayed or prolonged.

She has pain in her gums since last week, she take healthy diet regularly. What should be done to improve her condition?

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Please take her to a local dentist. Pain in gums or periodontal problems are generally not very painful. She might be having a carious tooth which is causing her pain. Proper oral and radiographic findings will get a exact diagnosis and hence give her relief. A healthy diet is not detrimental to healthy oral cavity. Brushing twice a day, avoiding sweet foods and soft drinks are few practices that helps in lower caries formation in the long run.

Only presence of any habit is not the cause for teeth pain. There can be multiple reasons for teeth pain and sensitivity. So kindly get a consulatation from a nearby Dentist to exactly know the cause so that proper treatment can be started.

I am 25 years old and my teeth shade is yellow. I tried many ways to whiten it but in vain. Is there any way to whiten it.

Dentist, Patiala
Dear lybrate-user, you should get your teeth whitened by bleaching of teeth. Two types of bleaching kits are used these days. Home use kit is to be used twice a week and you should get results in about two three months. The office bleach system is the better one, where you get teeth bleached at a dentist chair. You get results in a single sitting of 2 to 3 hours. This is more long lasting as well.

I had braces on my teeth because my upper teeth were a bit big and looked bad and I removed the braces but I still have some gap in my teeth's, what should I do? Will I have to put the braces again?

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Howrah
After removing your braces, your orthodontist would have given you retainers to wear. You need to wear them regularly. Since your spaces are already opening up you can get your retainers checked and tightened/ adjusted by your orthodontist and continue wearing them regularly 24*7 for at least 6 months and then continue with night time wear later on.
