We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks.

Hi, Apply clove oil to the affected teeth and gums and gently massage for 2-3 mins. Do this 3-4 times a day. Dental cavities are treated by temporary or permanent filling or putting a cap over the tooth. Consult a dentist for the same.

I broke my tooth (Front tooth). I lost half part of it. I know I does not grow. I heard of tooth implant. How much does it cost? Is there any other process to come over?

BDS
Dentist, Siliguri
I broke my tooth (Front tooth). I lost half part of it. I know I does not grow. I heard of tooth implant. How much do...
No need of tooth implant if the root of the tooth is firmly attached to the bone or any fracture in the root. Visit a dentist, via x-ray that will be confirmed. If the root is fine, go for rct with post and core build up and placed a crown above that. Your tooth will look same as what it was, also the costing will be lesser than implant and also for implants 3 months treatment time period is needed and for rct with crown (post) it will take maximum 3-5 days.

Simple and easy exercise for healthy gums: Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continously. This will maintain the health of your gums by stimulating the blood flow.

I was advised for a laser dental cleaning procedure. I am 50 year old and a diabetic for more than 10 years. Two teeth requires extraction as suggested by Doctor. And also advised for re-shaping to smile for the front teeth. Is the laser cleaning be a safe procedure and adjusting the teeth by clipping advisable at this age. Please advise.

BDS, Certification In Oral Implantology
Dentist, Ghaziabad
Hello , Cleaning teeth with Lasers is generally not done and i doubt the use of it, considering full mouth cleaning. Ultrasonic cleaning should be good enough for you. Extractions can be done if blood glucose stats are stable since you have not informed your blood glucose level, i am not in a situation to advise you as of now. Coming on to reshaping, Yes, it can be done with the use of crowns/laminates at any age considering the longitivtiy of tooth seems good. Regards

Ways to Reduce Teeth Sensitivity

MDS, BDS
Dentist, Ghaziabad
Ways to Reduce Teeth Sensitivity

The tooth is made of 3 layers, each with unique characteristics and specific function, the enamel, dentin, and pulp. The enamel is the outermost layer of the tooth and gives the tooth it's hard and lustrous appearance. The enamel is thicker on the crown than the root and is the first one to be affected by tooth decay. The only symptom when the enamel is decayed is food lodgment and discoloration.

The dentin is the next layer, which is composed of minute fine tubules leading from the enamel to the living portion of the tooth, which is the pulp. Once decay progresses from the enamel, the dentin is affected, and this leads to sensitivity in the teeth. When the root portion is exposed to the oral environment, because the root is covered by a more delicate substance called cementum, more severe dental sensitivity ensues.

There is a sharp, shooting discomfort through the tooth to specific foods, such as sweet, acidic, or hot or cold foods.  The main reasons for tooth sensitivity include:

  • Tooth decay, both crown and root caries
  • Periodontal disease and gum recession
  • Tooth erosion
  • Aggressive tooth brushing
  • Mouth breathing
  • Bruxism or night grinding

However, there are some simple ways to manage sensitivity, which can be done regularly at home.

  1. Toothpaste made for sensitive teeth: Potassium nitrate has been shown to block the tubules and has been included as an active ingredient in toothpastes. These are very effective, and if you are brushing twice, this can be used instead of the regular paste once.
  2. Brushing: Both the type of toothbrush and the brushing technique can have an impact on sensitivity.  Change to softer brushes and learn the ideal way to brush your teeth. A lot of times, rough brushing can lead to erosion and subsequent sensitivity
  3. Rinsing: Fluoride containing rinses have been proven to reduce sensitivity
  4. Food habits: Even before sensitivity sets in, being cautious to avoid acidic fruits and juices can help prolong the onset of sensitivity. If possible, consuming these food stuffs should be followed by brushing or at the least a thorough rinsing
  5. Sealants: If a person is prone to caries (deep pits and fissures, for instance), then it is advisable to get sealants applied on the teeth. This can reduce the instance of wearing of the enamel which then leads to sensitivity
  6. Mouth guard: If you are a night grinder, then a mouth guard can help curtail this habit and thereby reduce sensitivity.

There you go with how to reduce sensitivity. Try these simple, easy measures and go on to enjoy the sweets or hot or cold foods that you have always craved for.

Hello doctor, I have White coated tongue from a long time. For that I used almost every kind of scrapper and also don...
Your white tongue problem is most probably oral thrush which is not related to high cholesterol or a liver disease and for that matter your liver function tests are not that abnormal Thrush is a yeast infection of the tongue and lining of the mouth. Thrush occurs in children and adults when conditions permit too much growth of a fungus called candida in your mouth. A small amount of this fungus normally lives in your mouth. It is most often kept in check by your immune system and other germs that also live in your mouth. When your immune system is weak or when normal bacteria die, too much of the fungus can grow. You are more likely to get thrush if: You are in poor health. You are very old. Young babies are also more likely to develop thrush. You have HIV or AIDS. You are receiving chemotherapy or drugs that weaken the immune system. You are taking steroid medicine, including some inhalers for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). You have diabetes mellitus and your blood sugar is high. When your blood sugar is high, some of the extra sugar is found in your saliva and acts as food for candida. You take antibiotics. Antibiotics kill some of the healthy bacteria that keep candida from growing too much. Your dentures do not fit well. Your dentist can usually diagnose thrush by looking at your mouth and tongue. The sores are easy to recognize. To confirm you have thrush, your doctor may: Take a sample of a mouth sore by gently scraping it Examine mouth scrapings under a microscope In severe cases, thrush can grow in your esophagus as well. The esophagus is the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. If this occurs, your provider may: Take a throat culture to see what germs are causing your thrush Examine your esophagus and stomach with a flexible, lighted scope with a camera on the end If you get mild thrush after taking antibiotics, eat yogurt or take over-the-counter acidophilus pills. This may help restore a healthy balance of germs in your mouth. For a more severe case of thrush, your doctor may prescribe: Antifungal mouthwash (nystatin). Lozenges (clotrimazole). Antifungal medicines taken as a pill or syrup, these medicines include fluconazole (Diflucan) or itraconazole (Sporanox. Oral thrush can be cured. However, if your immune system is weak, thrush may come back or cause more serious problems.
