My baby boy is 2 month old and hair is growing unevenly i.e at certain part it is not growing. When he born at that time he had sufficient amt of hair in his head but now after we did hair cut, the hair is growing unevenly Please suggest.

MBBS MD DCH, Dch

Hair growth of head is very variable in ist year of life. So do not be panicky. Most children have normal hair growth by 1 year of age unless suffering from very rare diseases. Best wishes

General Physician,
Most babies are awake at nigh till 3 months of age and crying may be for no reason ( boring just as we feel ) and can also be due to abdominal pain . Anyway it its nor a serious case. You give colimex drops based on age and eight and see if there is reponse

Don't apply powder and don't use wipes. Clean it with water, keep the area clean and dry. Avoid milk to soil the area. Calamine lotion will help in relieving itch.

My son is 20 days old, from 2 -3 days he is crying a lot. He will not stop crying until unless his mother feeds him. He wants her mother to feed him round the clock even if he is not hungry also, if she moves or sleep for while he will start crying. We are very tensed. Please suggest us what to do and how to understand our son problem.

DNB(Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician, Chennai
Hi Mr. lybrate-user ask the mother to not to feed frequently and do demand feeding with proper position minimum 2-3 hrs gap in between and to feed one side completely and go for otherside. Follow this if that is not getting settled consult local pediatrician.

Rheumatic Fever in Kids - How It Impacts Your Child?

M.D(Pediatrics), MBBS
Pediatrician, Rewari
Rheumatic Fever in Kids - How It Impacts Your Child?

Rheumatic fever is a kind of autoimmune ailment that can occur as a result of group A streptococcal throat infection leading to inflammatory lesions in the connective tissues of the body. This disease specifically affects the joints, heart, blood vessels and various subcutaneous tissues located all over the body.

History of the effects of rheumatic fever:
The disease has been evaluated and depicted since the 1500s, though the connection between the rheumatic fever, and the throat infection was not found out until it was late 1880s. And the sore throat was also related to the rash, which is caused by streptococcal exotoxins, along with fever. Rheumatic fever was one of the leading causes of deaths in children as well as one of most common reasons behind the acquired heart diseases in adults before the invention and availability of penicillin.

Reasons behind the causes of rheumatic fever:
Even though adolescents and adults may be affected by the rheumatic fever, it mostly affects children aged between 5 to 15 years. It is a common disease in areas like South-Central Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and several parts of New Zealand and Australia. Group A streptococcus bacterium is the primary cause of this fever, and it also leads to scarlet fever in some people. It makes the body attack its own tissues once it has been attacked by the bacteria. This particular reaction leads to widespread inflammation throughout the body and forms the basis of all the common symptoms of the rheumatic fever.

You may have to take your child for the strep test if you notice any of the following symptoms:

  1. A sore throat and red rashes all across or in certain parts of the body.
  2. If your child has tender or swollen lymph nodes that are causing difficulty in swallowing.
  3. Tonsils that are filled with pus or red and swollen.

Harmful impacts of the rheumatic fever:

Developed mostly due to strep throat infection, it can affect the heart, skin, joints and nervous system of children. Though it may not affect all who have gone through a strep throat infection, it can lead to long-term diseases of the heart and its valves and is termed as a rheumatic heart disease. Since each attack of rheumatic fever may cause further damage to the heart, it is very crucial to make sure that your child doesn’t have one more attack of the fever, and it is therefore, important to have regular doses of penicillin injections and consult a specialist for receiving further advice on treatments and prevention.

My baby is 3.5 month old. His appetite is very less and his weight was 4.9 at 3 month, can I give him liv 52 to increase his appetite? He is not taking proper milk and he is on exclusive bf. I am already giving him calcium, vitamin D and iron drops. So please suggest.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Congratulations. Hold on to the faith in breastfeeding, you really don't need anything else. 4.9 kg weight at 3.5 months is good weight gain with exclusive breastfeeding. Baby will need only iron and vitamin D 3 daily supplements and after six months weaning with regular home food in addition to breasfeeding. You can fight your worries if you can plot growth of the baby on IAP growth chart. If it is within normal limits you have no reason to worry. By the way appetizers at all ages are no more than a placebo. Treat the child if ill. Be happy and enjoy together (with all family) healthy meals prepared at home. This is the best ever appetizer we need.

Are there any long-term effects associated with taking ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medications? If so, what are they and what medications are implicated? What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems? What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Can iodine help this condition?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Use of stimulant decreases the symptoms to a much good effect and if we don't give stimulant medication There will be more of conduct disorder and progress in disease and for side effects we have to monitor the person and advice them accordingly And spine block injection is effective for six months

Please don't put any thing in ear or nose unless told by doctor. Please don't try to clean baby's ear with earbuds if at all you want to clean then use cotton wicks moistened with clean water. Getting some crusts in ear is normal.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

Take breast pump and express your milk and fed him by this expressed milk. It can be stored in room temp for 6 to 8 hrs in this prevailing temp. Also get your breast check with some mammologist or obstetrician.

Worm infestation is related to hygiene. The whole family needs deworming. He should do nail biting or finger sucking. Describe the worms- small or long?

My baby is one month and 8 days old. He has vomited twice in 4 days at night during feed. I get so scared when the milk comes out of his nose also. What to do when he vomits I literally get chills and do not know what to do while he is vomiting.

FIAP(NEONATE), MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ahmedabad
Spit up is quite common among the babies. When he vomits just make him turn on either of his side so that he does not aspirate into his lungs and the milk comes out. If your child is gaining weight, there is no fever or other issues, there is nothing to worry about. Make sure you are burping your child about 20 to 30 minutes post feed. Warm regards.
