My baby is five months old. I've resumed work today after maternity leave. My issue is that my baby is crying a lot in my absence. She wants me and not ready to adjust with anyone. Does excessive crying harm a baby? If I'll run home on single phone call, she won't learn to live without me. Does crying a lot affects the health of the baby? Please guide urgently. I can't leave the job also I'm the bread earner of the family.

In 1 simple sentence, yes, crying affects on physical as well as mental health. Harsh sentence, you have to choose 1 out of 2. Rest advice depends on your family n social circumstances. Baby wants emotional hugging besides food for his tummy n care with affection which can be given by mother and only mother.

Swallowing air is the most common reason for flatus. Try to give breast milk in sitting posture and do burping before you put on bed. If you are giving bottle feed, try to give with spoon. It solves your problem. Consult your pediatrician for learning art of burping.

My 9 years old child has been suffering from allergy causing cold and cough and sometimes spasm problem since his childhood. For the last two months he has been suffering from cough and spasm problem. His blood reports show esnophils 28% and lymphocytes 18% when other gradients are in normal range with WBC - no abnormal cell found. What should we do now?

Pediatrician, Parbhani
best treatment for allergies is ro avoid allergens . just avoid anything he is allergic to . may be dust ,pollen or any food . as allergy is immune mediated ,you can not suppress it forever .

What is his age? Sometimes even normal children are hyperactive and want to play a lot. Not showing interest in studies. There is a fine line between normal and adhd behavior.

Hi, I have a 4 month old girl child. Please suggest how to care for and how to treat for best grow. And suggest any books, literature or tools which help us better. Thanking you.

General Physician,
To give you a good guidance I need to know the present weight. Weight alone is not the indicator of good health. You can continue to give breast milk and add home made semisolids like raggi porridge, mashed banana and slowly introduce all the homemade foods. You need to be in regular touch with me so that I can personally interact and guide you as this is very interesting part of caring for babies, I like. Ask me privately.

Hello doctor my baby is 6 month old he is suffering from dry cough and cold. Which medicine should be used?
Hi, Give following medications: 1. SYP. SINAREST-AF 1.5 ml three times a day for 3 to 5 days. 2. SYP. ASTHALIN 1.5 ml three times a day for 3 to 5 days. Both the medicines are syrups not drops, check the medicines while buying. If your baby develops difficulty in breathing / difficulty in taking feeds / fever, then consult nearby child specialist.

My son's age is 5. He has dust allergy normally he starts to cough a lot but in india doctor used to give Allegra and it used to work. Last 5 months back shifted to London. For the last 15 days onwards, he is constantly coughing but very less during the night time but the coughing increases after having any food or milk. The doctors are saying the chest is clear and has given ventilin evohaler.

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
As the chest is clear and ventilin evohaler is not showing benifit, you can try allegra surup again. As the cough is after feed, every care should be taken that child is not aspirating during feed, which can occur if feed taken in hurry or in faulty posture.

Importance of Babies-DENTAL HYGIENE.

Importance of Babies-DENTAL HYGIENE.

Many parents mistakenly assume that baby teeth aren't important because they are eventually replaced by permanent teeth. In fact, early dental decay not only threatens the underlying secondary teeth, it can cause severe toothaches.

As soon as the first tooth comes in, parents should begin practicing preventive dental hygiene. Babies should not be permitted to fall asleep while nursing or sucking a bottle; this allows milk to pool in the mouth, and the sugar[lactose] in it can cause extensive tooth decay.

Offering a little water at the end of a feeding rinses any remaining milk from the baby's mouth. The gums and emerging teeth can be wiped gently with a gauze-wrapped finger.

Sugar is the major cause of childhood tooth decay; avoid offering sugary soft drinks and sweet snacks. A chunk of cheese or a piece of fruit are better alternatives that provide important nutrients without harming the teeth.

My 4 year old daughter has suffered with severe chronic constipation since birth. When she was born she was admitted in the neonatal for 9 days due to abdominal distention, feed intolerance, suspected sepsis, vomiting bright green bile and Meconium Ileus. She did not pass her meconium for 33 hours and it was passed due to a paediatrician giving her a suppository. It's now getting worse as she is getting older. She suffers with abdominal distention, leakages, agonising pain, passing a lot of gas and cannot walk sometimes due to the pain. She has been on 5 different laxatives (lactulose, movicol, docusate, sodium picosulfate and sennakot) now of them have worked and she has also had 2 enemas that did not work also. She has had a biopsy done for Hirschsprung's disease and it came back normal and all her bloods are normal as well. She is missing a lot of school due to this and her doctors don't seem to think it's serious but after all the medication she's had I think differently. She used to pass a stool and get some relief for a few weeks now it's just days till the pain starts all over again like she isn't getting any relief at all anymore. It can be 3 weeks before she passes a stool. I've done some research and seen that meconium ileus can be related to cystic fibrosis and I've seen that you can have it in the digestive system also. Could this be a possibility for her?

It is really strange for me to understand how she is tolerating absolute constipation for 3 weeks. It is advisable to get her thoroughly checked in good teaching institutions like AIIMS/PGI Chandigarh etc.
