Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang asana -- lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your back pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. You have mentioned x ray findings, I would actually need to know if possible your current neurological status, your treatment done till now for existing problem, because we do not have to treat x rays or mri, we need to understand what is your problem and whats the best solution for it. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Any calcaneus fracture needs a minimum 6 weeks for healing. However, sometimes we continue plaster up to 3 months depending on fracture pattern or bone quality. Get an xray after 6 weeks of injury.

Hello. I have gone through your question about knee pain. I understand your concern. I feel that these symptoms are because of your weight. You will have to reduce your weight. Atleast 15 kg over 2 years period. You need diet modification. Stop oily food. Don't eat rice at night. Very low calories diet at night atleast 2 hours prior to sleeping. Take vitamin B12 medicines. Calcium and Vitamin D medicines. You will feel better.

Dear sir any fracture needs protection. A hairline fracture not treated properly can lead to longstanding pain. Best treatment will be to rest the foot and get it splinted. Plaster of paris/ fibre cast below knee is the best way of protection. Minimum period of 4 weeks.

Are there any long-term effects associated with taking ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medications? If so, what are they and what medications are implicated? What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems? What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Can iodine help this condition?

There is no spine block injection. There is an injection called epidural steriod injection given for the disc problems of the back and neck if there is radicular pain due to disc bulge and which is known in the mri. The results are variable from individual to individual and some experience long term results even with single injection and some require 2 to 3 injections in a gap of few months. But it is mostly without side effects.

I had a major vehicle accident 3 years ago and I fractured my right shoulder, so they have put an implant inside and I was under going physiotherapy for one year, now I feel very very close to normal, according to me I have 98% range and flexibility, now my question is, can I go a head and do strong workouts? Is it recommended to get the implant removed? If yes how will it help?

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Delhi
The implants (plates, screws etc.) should be removed when the fracture is healed beyond doubt. Damaged implant is an other indication for removal. Average time for wound healing after implant removal is 7-10 days. If fracture has united, go out for work outs but increase your stamina gradually.
