I' am 22 male. I have a calf muscles problem. I dont knw how to describe properly I cant say its pain but a feeling of uncomfortable and numbness I guess. Well I usually dont feel it when I am walking but it starts the uncomfortable feeling when ever I lay or try to take rest. And not only that it get worse after sleep. So what could be the reason I went to doctor and asked about it but he didnt took it seriously. He told me that the reason could probably because I dont do exercise. Yes I usually sleep all the time. Thank you

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Pathologies in leg and especially in calf area can arise out of muscles, tendons, nerves, bones etc so there are number of reasons possible, we would have to see which one is relevant in your case. Usually pain can be due to deficiency of vitamin d, or low serum potassium levels etc my advise for you is: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre match warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tets for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Osteopenia - 6 Signs You Are Suffering From It!

We may be lost in progression and may have a lot to achieve in life, there may be things that we just cannot let go off, such as success and in such a rush for advancement and success we may be overlooking health in the bargain. Though we may not realize it, but as age progresses, the health takes a toll and the disease fighting and sustenance abilities of the body also start to decline. One of the most common problems that a lot of people go through is the weakening of the bones.

There may be instances, particularly in women, where they may feel fatigued and tired and this is something that most women may ignore so that they may be able to concentrate on the other aspects of life. However, more than often, the problems that the women face are known to be symptoms of health issues such as Osteopenia. Osteopenia is a problem of the bones where they gradually lose their natural ability to make sufficient amount of calcium necessary for the health and safety of the bone structure and when the problem takes a sever turn it may lead to osteoporosis.

Knowing the symptoms:
The problem of osteopenia may not have obvious symptoms in the beginning but people who suffer from the problem may complain of the following issues:

  1. A lot of people may experience lower back pain when they are suffering from osteopenia.
  2. The back pain may also arise from the hunching of the back which is another symptom of the health issue.
  3. There have been instances of patients suffering from lowering of the height when they are suffering from the bone related issue.
  4. The fracturing of bones becomes more likely for people who suffer from the problem.
  5. Lots of people may also end up losing teeth due to the issue.
  6. One of the biggest symptoms is that the patients of osteopenia usually also develop osteoporosis in the advanced stages of the issue.

Treating Osteopenia:
Though there is no confirmed cure for the issue, it is possible to be able to control the problem and limit its ill-effects or symptoms. With a revision of dietary habits to include foods that help in the increase of calcium you may be able to control the problem to a great extent. It may also be possible to keep the issue under check by following healthy lifestyle habits such as quitting smoking or following regular exercise routines or taking the right treatment or medications as suggested by a specialist. Sometimes a disease can be a result of an underlying illness that you are unaware of, which is why self-diagnosis or treatment may not be advised and it is always wiser to take help from your physician.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query. Arthritis is a term used for inflammation of joints, you have to specify what kind of arthritis you are talking about? usually dietary modifications will not lead to major changes in inflammatory cascade, but your diet must contain adequate amounts of calcium to keep bones healthy. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena

I suggest you follow the below for your condition: Take Mag Phos 6x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks and update. Also do x-ray of the affected area. Heat and Ice Packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately.

My wife age 39 years is facing problem of knee pain while moving up on stairs, she has acute pain on knees after 4 -5...
Knee pain can result from many problems ranging from sports injuries to arthritis to gout. But strengthening the knee is one way to both prevent knee trouble and deal with whatever knee condition you’re dealing with now. Strengthening the muscles around the knee will decrease the stress or strain on the joint itself. These muscles include the quadriceps at the front of the thigh and the hamstrings at the back of the thigh. Both of these large muscle groups get a workout when you climb stairs. Try some home remedies for your pain- - Ice is useful for the control of pain and swelling. It can be applied to the knee for 15 to 20 minutes as often as every two to four hours. The swollen knee should be elevated above the level of the heart while icing. -activities that cause pain should be avoided temporarily. -If the knee is swollen or sore, the following positions and activities should be avoided until knee pain and swelling resolve: Squatting Kneeling Twisting and pivoting Jogging Also Maintaining a healthy body weight to avoid overstressing your knees are very important. -A full history of your problem should be taken and your movements assessed by a Physiotherapist. Please consult a physiotherapist for the same. Consult a Homeopathic doctor for medicine. Best wishes.
