My ent specialist says I have nasal polyps and recommends surgery but I want some better treatment. Please help. Thanks.

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Nasal polyps are due to a combination of persistent allergy and infection. The treatment is medical management followed by surgery followed by medical management. It is life long problem and not easy to treat. Surgery offers many benefits, including wide clearance of the disease, opening up of sinus blockages, removal of accumulated debris, reduction of turbinates if required etc. Patients are greatly relieved following a well performed surgery in expert hands. Quite often the sense of smell also returns. You should reconsider your refusal of surgery - after appropriate medical management it is a good option for you. Regards

I am a 21 years old man with regular sneezing, wet cough and maxillary sinusitis. Please suggest me ways to avoid it?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Thsese symptoms may be due to nasal allergy. You need to take antihistaminics and steroid nasal spray. Avoid exposure to dust. You may also require xray nose and sinus to rule out any underlying pathology.

I am 25 years old software engineer. I am getting dizziness every day while working or walking even though having good sleep. Please let me know what is the problem? Which doctor to consult?

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- due to your job profile it is quite possible that your are facing prolonged computer operation due to which cervical spondylitis (which causes cereblral artey dysfunctioning leading to dizziness) chances are in picture. Do not go for an orthopedic surgeon as they provide symptomatic relief by giving some pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs, or some time some vitamin supplements too. You need ayurvedic treatment to provide nourishment to your nrves and muscles around the neck, so go for an ayurvedic doctor or consult someone whom you wish on lybrate.

My mom has head reeling when ever she gets up from bed for about 1-2 mins and she says she has symptoms for vertigo! What are the symptoms, is it serious?

My mom has head reeling when ever she gets up from bed for about 1-2 mins and she says she has symptoms for vertigo!
...
Your mother is suffering from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (bppv). Symptoms are 1. Reeling sensation for few seconds to few minutes which is self limiting. 2. Nausea & occasionally committing. 3. Unsteadiness while walking. It is usually triggered by change of head & body position. Since it happens multiple times in a day, it is annoying & troublesome. An expert ent surgeon can help her by evaluating the side involved & doing the necessary manoeuvre to relieve the patient of his/her symptoms. Short course of medicines are required for complete relief. Vertigo exercises help in preventing relapses.

When I try to swallow food or drink fluid after it passes a 'place' in tongue I feel pain in my ears. What should I do.
It is due to infection of throat and ear. Ear has a opening in throat so any infection in throat or mouth may radiate to ear. It may occur due to ulcer, pharyngitis, tooth infection, tonsilitis etc. Gargle with luke warm water or with betadine gargle. Consult ent to rule out the cause.
