I am a 20 years old male and have backache for last 9 months. What should I do? please sir help me.
Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. Also 9 months is a long time to be having continuous pain, so it is advisable for you to get few investigations done and follow up after results. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc and with no other associated constitutional symptoms like evening rise in temperature, loss of weight, excessive sweating at night etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. You have given 1 day history of Elbow pain which could just be a ligamentous sprain, or pain of epicondylitis etc. You can start with gentle anti inflammatory medication, ice packs for local application, activity modification and see how it pans out next 3-4 days otherwise we might have to get few investigations done. This might be stiches which might be due to dehydration, overhydration, overeating too soon before running, being out of shape, erratic breathing patterns and lacking strength in your core muscles – which are the muscles of the abdomen and back. Less commonly, medication or an underlying medical disorder. To prevent so hydrate yourself well, avoid beverages before running, Work on increasing your endurance and strengthen the muscles of your abdomen and back. Gently stretch your abdominal area before running by twisting from side to side. Breathe evenly while running, taking three steps for every inhale and two steps for every exhale. Treatment: Stop running or slow your pace as soon as you start to feel the pain under your rib cage. Grab the affected area with your hand and apply pressure or massage it until the cramp goes away. Bending over at the waist can also help take pressure off the area. Breathe slowly, pushing your abdomen out when you inhale and relaxing it when you exhale. Drinking water might also offer some relief. If problem still persist consult to get yourself investigated for any underlying pathology present.

Rest is very essential in this acute stage of extreme pain; not exercise. This being summer, apply coconut oil which sooths the nerves. Homoeopathy has good treatment for your problem, without causing adverse effects. Take homoeopathic medicine ruta 200 twice daily in the morning and in the evening and give feedback after 6 days
