Hi since you say that all the tests have been done and those tests are normal, and you have diabetes since two years, I would like to know the blood sugar levels and diabetes status. Many a times uncontrolled diabetes itself can cause dizziness because of fluctuations in blood sugar levels.

I am 45 years old man. While sleeping, I am always snoring. How to get rid of it.

MBBS, cc USG
General Physician, Noida
Hello, I am giving you some health tips for snoring problem Lifestyle changes to stop snoring Lose weight. If you’re overweight Exercise exercising your arms, legs, and abs, for example, also leads to toning the muscles in your throat, which in turn can lead to less snoring Quit smoking. smoking irritates the membranes in the nose and throat which can block the airways and cause snoring. Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, and sedatives because they relax the muscles in the throat Establish regular sleep patterns. Create a healthy bedtime ritual with your partner and stick to it Clear nasal passages. If you have a stuffy nose Keep bedroom air moist. Dry air can irritate membranes in the nose and throat, so if swollen nasal tissues are the problem, a humidifier may help. Change your sleeping position. Elevating your head four inches may ease breathing Sleep on your side instead of your back Consult chest physician for further management

I have hiccups all the day. what should I do please tell me I am very disappoint? Please help me.
Relaxation is the key. Lie on a bed, stomach down, with head turned and arms hanging over the side. Take a deep breath, hold it for 10 to 15 seconds, exhale slowly. After a few repeats, rest for several minutes before you get up. • If you can elicit the help of your partner, stand against the wall and ask your partner to place a fist lightly in the soft area just under your breastbone. Take a few deep breaths, and on the last one, exhale completely. Your partner should then press gently but firmly to help expel air from your lungs.

Sir, I have my left side ear is slightly dump. Please I need your advice.

MBBS
General Physician,
Slightly dump meaning do you hear less? most common cause may be ear wax. Get your ear canal checked by an ent doctor. Once ear wax is removed then your ear deum can be tested. In case you have fluid behind your ear then anticongestants may be given. Please set an appointment with an ent doctor.

I have a problem in the left side of my nose. It is always blocked with dirt. So much so that, I have heavy breathing mostly. It seems the gap between the bone and the skin is very less and with the dirt blocking it, I am having the problem. What could be the possible reasons for the same and the possible cure?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
It can be due to dns deviated nasal septum blocking the passage of nose and causing problem. You can use nasivion nasal drops 2-2-2-2. Get an ent consultation done.

Mujhe snoring ki bahut jayada problem hai. Koi Mere paas so nhi pata. Or mujhe iska pta bhi nhi lagta ke main snoring krta hu.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Dear Lybrate User, *Sleeping on the side, by tucking a pillow into the back helps prevent snoring. *Stick a nasal adhesive strip across the soft part of the nose, just above nostrils prior to bed time. The plastic bands that are embedded in the adhesive pad, helps in tightening and lifting the sides of nose, while also maintaining airflow while sleeping. *Pour three to four drops of warm Brahmi ghee or plain ghee into each nostril in the morning and prior to bed time. *If overweight, try to lose weight through regular walks or any such exercise, which helps an obese person to breathe easily. Take care to go to bed at a scheduled time every day to get adequate sleep. *Snorers should strictly avoid use of sleeping pills, sedative antihistamines or alcohol. Smoking should be strictly avoided, as it irritates the nasal and throat lining.

Hello lybrate-user, you have mentioned that you have been diagnosed with fungal infection of the throat and prescribed antibiotic and antiviral medications. Ideally a fungal infection should respond to antifungal medications. I would like to advice some blood test to test your immune system. It's important to find the cause of low immunity to prescribe right treatment.

Type-1 Diabetes - What Is It and What Causes It?

Type-1 Diabetes - What Is It and What Causes It?

What is Type-1 Diabetes?

Type-1 Diabetes, also known as Diabetes Mellitus type-1, is a condition which is characterised by the lack of sufficient amount of insulin in the body. This is a chronic condition and cannot be cured. The insufficient amount of insulin in the blood results in the spike in blood sugar levels, which in turn, can damage various organs in the body. However, with proper therapy and treatment, it can be controlled and the quality of life can be improved for the patient.

The tell-tale signs and symptoms of this type of diabetes are the frequent urges to urinate, increase in appetite, increased thirst and rapid weight loss. It is most commonly diagnosed in children or young adults and thus, it was previously known as juvenile diabetes.

Glucose and other types of sugars are essential for the body cells to absorb energy. The glucose that is present in the blood is taken up with the help of insulin and utilised for energy. The lack of this hormone renders the glucose useless as it is not being able to enter the body cells. This is precisely type-1 diabetes.

What Causes It?

The cause of type-1 diabetes is not known entirely. Although, there are certain theories that explain the cause –

  1. Genetics: The chances of getting type-1 diabetes are increased in children if either of their parents suffers through from this disease. More than 50 genes are involved in diabetes type-1.

  2. Environmental factors: Environmental factors are also thought to play a role in type-1 diabetes.

  3. Viral infection: A theory suggests that viral infections are responsible for type-1 diabetes. According to this theory, the virus activates the auto-immune system of the body which in turn attacks the pancreatic beta cells along with the cells that are infected by the virus. Viruses like Epstein-Barr virus, Mumps virus, rubella virus etc. are considered to be responsible for the same.

How Is It Treated?

Many people with type-1 diabetes live long, healthy lives. The key to good health is to keep your blood sugar levels within the range your doctor gives you. You’ll need to check them often and adjust insulin, food, and activities to make that happen.

All people with type-1 diabetes must use insulin injections to control their blood sugar. Several types of insulin are available. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an endocrinologist and ask a free question.
