I had unprotected sex with my husband after which I took an emergency contraceptive pill. But I am not able to swallow the pill at one time so I broke the pill in pieces and took it with some sweets to cover the scent. But now I am scared that the pill might not work. Is there anything to worry about?

If there was break through bleeding within 7 days after taking emergency contraceptive pill then the pill was effective. If there was no bleeding, do a pregnancy test 10 days after missed period and consult doctor for further advice.

Hello Doctor, Please explain us how to track the ovulation using Basal Temp Thermometer. Many sites say different procedures. Please help me so that we won't miss the important days. I have regular cycle of avg 27- 28 days.

Hello Doctor,

Yes many sites say different things - agree, but stick to old methods of measuring morning temperature before brushing teeth or taking tea, means just after waking up. If temp has been 97 for first 12 days after cycle, on day 13 there will be a dip by a point and on day 14 there will be a rise by 2 points or more and it will remain so till cycle starts. Day 14, when there is rise in temp. By a point is ovulation day and life of ovum in urerus is 48 hours. You are lucky to have a regular cycle and I am sure you will find the old time tested method useful, though there are ovulation kits available in market too and they too can be wrong due to human error.

Some 25 days back his one of college friend started to message him. She is married and having 2 female kids. She is not happy with her husband. She was my husband’s close friend. Earlier I didn’t take much serious. One day I had to see their message. From that message she is trying to occupy my husband. My husband mind get distracted. I warned him smooth. They r planned to book a room to meet. I frankly asked him regard this. He told, “she knows she is doing bad. So cannot meet out. We are just friend am not going to do anything physical. She does’t need any physical. She wants some care. She is my 13 year friend. So I cannot stop her feelings”. Doctor I do not know what to do. I spoke to him very calmly. But no result. He feels am not trusting him. But there is very less chance to meet together. Because she cannot come alone from her home to here only for meeting. He is speaking and discussing something with me. Hello doctor,

You need to be in absolutely good health both emotionally and physically for the pregnancy's sake. There is obviously something more than meet the eye going on in this contact. She, being in Australia where their culture somewhat permits these type of liaisons, you cannot just blindly trust their intentions. The fact that they need to meet is itself a sign that there is more to this meeting. Please go and meet a marriage counselor and sort out these problems before it gets too late, which I suspect that it may be already too late. Since you do not have parental backup, you depend a lot on this relationship being steady. You must fight for this resolution but try as much as possible to avoid too much stress. You cannot continue to kind and soft about saving your marriage at this juncture and after what has been going on. There is a risk that he may just dump you but that does not mean you should just concede without a good fight.

Common ways HBV is transmitted include: Sexual contact. You may become infected if you have unprotected sex with an infected partner whose blood, saliva, semen or vaginal secretions enter your body. Sharing of needles. HBV is easily transmitted through needles and syringes contaminated with infected blood. Sharing intravenous (IV) drug paraphernalia puts you at high risk of hepatitis B. Accidental needle sticks. Hepatitis B is a concern for health care workers and anyone else who comes in contact with human blood. Mother to child. Pregnant women infected with HBV can pass the virus to their babies during childbirth. However, the newborn can be vaccinated to avoid getting infected in almost all cases. Talk to your doctor about being tested for hepatitis B if you are pregnant or want to become pregnant. Hepatitis B infection may be either short-lived (acute) or long lasting (chronic). Acute hepatitis B infection lasts less than six months. Your immune system likely can clear acute hepatitis B from your body, and you should recover completely within a few months. Most people who acquire hepatitis B as adults have an acute infection, but it can lead to chronic infection. Chronic hepatitis B infection lasts six months or longer. When your immune system can't fight off the acute infection, hepatitis B infection may last a lifetime, possibly leading to serious illnesses such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. The younger you are when you get hepatitis B — particularly newborns or children younger than 5 — the higher your risk the infection becoming chronic. Chronic infection may go undetected for decades until a person becomes seriously ill from liver disease. Treatment can with medicines Interferon alfa-2b (Intron A) Antiviral medications. i.e. lamivudine

Five Benefits Of Meditation

Five Benefits Of Meditation

Regular meditation enables us to lead a healthy and happy life.

1. It is a path of self-discipline wherein one learns to practice self-control, detachment from worldly things, concentration to achieve self-realisation.
2. Regular practice of meditation naturally brings about a healthy lifestyle, as a pure way of life, with moderation in diet, and good habits that contribute to physical and mental well-being.
3. Realisation that mere possession of material beings does not bring about happiness: not accumulating also means not holding onto other people. When we let go of something or someone, we set ourselves free from dependence or attachment. This helps one to remain light and capable of handling so called unbelievably difficult situations.
4. Most of the rewards stem from the change in thinking, attitudes and emotions
5. Meditation has been clinically proven to relieve chronic pain, reduce stress, slow ageing, lower blood pressure, improve heart and lung function, reduce depression, and improve sleep.
5. It has been found to increase one’s focus and attention, improve the ability to multitask, and enhance memory, all of which boosts productivity.

I am 27 years old girl. I got pain in my breast before I am bleeding. And sometime I feel lump on my left breast and some time I don't feel and once I observe a little milk from my right breast. Can you please tell me why this is happening?

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Hormonal changes from monthly menstruation can trigger cysts/ fibroids as well as transient inflammation/ swelling of the breasts. However, breast cysts are usually benign. Usually, before the onset of menses, the breast tissue with the larger breast often tends to swell with some amount of tenderness/ pain. But, this is often temporary and resolves automatically. Nevertheless, to be on a safer side, I would advise you to get this clinically examined by your OB/ GYN right away and not delay any further. You may have to undergo the relevant diagnostics, including a mammography and then biopsy as appropriate, to understand the exact nature of the same and treatment advised apropos. Should the pain be unbearable, you may apply an alternating heat and cold treatment for couple of minutes that may alleviate pain. You can take 'Amla Churna' (Patanjali) & 'Bael Churna (Patanjali- 1/2 tsp each with warm water, preferably before lunch daily for next 1 month. Simultaneously, keep your diet and lifestyle streamlined, you can take tomato soup to which fresh herbs like garlic, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, coriander leaves and oregano has been added, once daily. Apart from the above-mentioned, have a streamlined lifestyle with due emphasis on regular exercise, stress reduction and relaxation. Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Especially, vegetables & fruits rich in carotenoids, vitamin C & vitamin B12 are known to help in this condition. Also, apples, broccoli, and cabbage contain glucaric acid which is closely similar to calcium D-glucarate that helps clearing out toxins and excess hormones out of the body that is likely to increase the risk of hormone dependent growths and also cancers of the breast. Try avoiding tea, coffee, carbonated soft drinks, dairy products including chocolates, alcohol, greasy, sugary and other high calorie food stuff including fast foods etc all. Green tea is an exception though. Stay well hydrated and have at least 8 - 10 glasses of clear fluids through out the day. Your OB/ GYN shall be able to advise further on, in particular, once he/ she gets to clinically examine you in person. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely,
