Pregnancy test should be done only after 7 days of missed period. So if it was expected on 1march then it should be done on 10 march (added 2 days for the feb). If negative then keep repeating it every week till menses comes. You have to read it within 5 min of putting the urine and even faint second line is positive.

Role of Hormones in Female Sexuality

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Role of Hormones in Female Sexuality

Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are the hormones involved in a woman's sexual desire and functioning. The most influential hormone is testosterone that is produced by the ovaries.

Hormonal changes do not indicate a problem always. But they are responsible for regulating reproductive cycle, sex drive, and mood.

The role of the following hormones is absolutely vital in controlling a female's sexuality:

1. Estrogen

Estrogen is the primary female hormone responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle, controlling the development of female sex organs and thickening the lining of the uterus during pregnancy. When a woman approaches menopause, the level of estrogen begins to drop. Low levels of estrogen can lead to vaginal dryness, resulting in painful intercourse, and can affect mood and sleep patterns as well.

2. Testosterone

Testosterone is an important hormone in women as well. Estrogen is produced with the help of testosterone. High levels of testosterone are associated with increased sexual desire and sexual behavior in women. Since after menopause, the testosterone level begins to drop, it may contribute to the reduction of arousal and sexual response in women.

3. Progesterone

Progesterone also controls the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Progesterone level begins to drop after menopause. Changing levels of progesterone are associated with a woman's sexual behavior.

First do a urine pregnancy test yourself. If its positive visit a gynaec if you want abortion. Very safe pills are available nowadays for abortion. Beware of quacks and avoid self medication if its negative. Wait for spontaneous periods. If itching etc continues even after periods. Visit a gynaec as you may have an infection. That is also treatable with appropriate antibiotics always use condoms. It not only avoids pregnancy but also protects from many infections.

Hello, Thyroid test should have been done before getting pregnant, According to American Thyroid Association ideally TSH levels should be below 2 mU/L before getting pregnant. During pregnancy levels should be maintained as follows: 1st trimester 0.1 to 2 mU/L, 2nd Trimester 0.3 to 3 mU/L & 3rd 0.3 to 3.1 mU/L. This is absolutely essential because fetal development is affected if the level is higher. The current level is very high. Your gynecologist should have mentioned this to in her briefing. Anyway, if you are not on thyroxine, please start treatment right away. Thanks.

Irregular periods can be caused due to menstrual cycle disorders. They are very common and can be easily treated with medications. Every month the brain, ovaries & uterus follow a sequence of events to prepare the body for pregnancy. There are four major hormones which are at play here, the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone and estrogen. Menstrual cycle disorders occur from conditions that affect the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries, uterus, cervix, or vagina. You should also look out for other signs such as pregnancy, family history of irregular periods, Acne issues, hair on face or chest, gained weight recently, hot flashes, night sweats, frequent headaches, stress or taking any herbal medications. You should urgently see a doctor if you have been having irregular periods for more than three menstrual periods (either consecutively or over the course of a year). In physical exam, we will thoroughly check your reproductive organs and breast. Commonest test done are hemoglobin, iron studies, hormonal assays and ultrasound abdomen. Treatment is given depending upon the cause which can be found out after thorough examination by a Homoeopath, so visit your nearest Homoeopath today.

This is the 5th month from the day I had intercourse with a escort. From last 1 week I am having the continuous burning sensation on tip of my penis and sometime pain spread to testicles. 1 week before the pain was acute but now it does not hurt much. Sometime I find little pain while urinating and sometime for days I feel ok. I do not have any discharge coming. No pus, no yellow or green fluid. Sometime I feel like something is coming from my penis but nothing comes. I do not have any symptoms like rashes or blisters. This thing happened when I had a much alcoholic consumption 1 week ago and the next morning I woke up with this feeling. Now the pain spread into my back. I have a joint pain issue from last two years but for the last week it got increased little bit. I thought it was UTI but I was do not have any symptoms like peeing again and again and continuous burning sensation. I got little etching but my skin seems to be clean. Hiv phobia or venerophobia is more dangerous than actual hiv as it causes continuous doubt and sleeplessness and depression so just cool down as you have dna pcr and used a condom too. First of all avoid all spicy foods cold drinks fast foods sugar alcohol totally for 15 days minimum. Just take lemon juice with salt sugar and a pinch of eno thrice a day that will clean up toxins in the body. Just take salt water bath twice a day and drink water enough. Also eat ripe bananas.

What You Should Know About Pap Smear Test

DNB, DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Faridabad
What You Should Know About Pap Smear Test

A Pap Smear is a screening test done to to test for occurrence of uterine cancer. Carried out in a quick and simple way to extract a sample, the sample is collected from the cervix area of a woman during a pelvic exam. The examination of the sample takes place under a microscope thereafter to find abnormalities that can point towards cancer and pre cancer changes.

There are many reasons why women should get a pap smear screening done:

  1. Women who are HIV positive should get this test done regularly so as to detect any anomalies in the cervix. This condition usually comes with higher risk of infections and cancer, which is why regular screening is required.
  2. Age is also another factor and women over the age of 30 should go through an annual screening on a compulsory basis. This is also true for women who have been through pregnancy and childbirth.

Preparing for a Pap Smear: To prepare for a pap smear test, you need to ensure that you are not menstruating at the time. Also, you may want to avoid sexual activity just before the test so as to get the most accurate readings. During the process, remember to stay calm and relax your body physically.

Procedure: The pap smear procedure is a quick one that might be only slightly uncomfortable. This test is usually carried out on the examination table at the gynecologist's clinic. The legs will need to be spread and placed in stirrups. The doctor will insert a speculum to hold open the vaginal opening so that the spatula can be inserted easily to take a sample from the area. This sample of the cells will be tested in a lab after due preservation.

Test Results: The test results can either be normal or abnormal. An abnormal result does not point at the presence of cancer. Rather it can simply mean that abnormal cells exist in the cervix. The doctor may ask you to go through these tests and screening more frequently so as to study the anomalies in a more detailed manner.
