I am 45 years old, I am suffering from thyroid from 2 years and they suggested me to have thyronorm 25 mg but after taking it continuously also the thyroid has increased and now doctors have told me to take 50 mg I need your opinion.

Hello lybrate-user, your doctor is doing right thing he will be increasing dose till it gets normalcy. It's double edge sword you know hypo and hyper thyroid both are problem.

Increase thirst, increased frequency of urination are some initial symptoms of diabetes but it can vary from being completely asymptomatic to non specific symptoms like weakness, tingling in feet, dry mouth, blurry vision, burning during urination. You need to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent such metabolic diseases. Type 1 usually occurs at younger age due to insulin deficiency and treated with insulin injections. Type 2 usually in adults due to insulin resistance and treated with oral medicines.

I am 48 years I am suffering diabetic from 7 years today my fasting blood sugar level is 160, colestroal level is 210, and blood preassure is 135/85.

Your fasting levels are still to high and need to be brought under control. Your medicine for diabetes is either not effective/ or your dosage needs to be changed. Please consult a endocrinologist to control your fasting sugar levels. What are your hbaic levels? your cholesterol is also on the borderline high range. Please get a complete lipid profile done and share the results.

Hi Sugar free is not completely free of sugar. It's just that it has low calories and carbohydrates. To curb your cravings you can take it occasionally but taking it in excess is not suggested for a diabetic. Jaggery is the unrefined form of your white sugar. It's nutritional value is better than sugar but it's effect on diabetes is the same. So when sugar is a no to diabetes, jaggery also is a NO.

You are suffering with type 1 daibetes for this insulin intake is the only treatment. You have to take insulin injcetns as per your blood sugar levels. And you have to follow restrict diabetic diet.

Mr Barun Kumar, Please tell me are you on any anti diabetic drugs, if yes what are those and their dosage? The ayurvedic product mentioned is supposed to be for helping liver activity. It has no relation to diabetes control or insulin activity. If you no liver related issues then you may stop that. But it is important to take proper medications for controlling blood sugar.

I am a diabetic and have been taking metmorfin in the form of galvys met 50/500 regularly along with triglismisave. However the sugar levels does not seem to reduce, in spite of all other parameters of balanced diet and regular exercises being followed. Do we need to take them continuously or this mandates a change?

Dear, galvus met is a combination of vildagliptin and metformin. Your bmi is 24.5 which is just fine. A proper measure for knowing and managing your diabetes will be to ensure a hba1c below 6.5%. Regarding diet, we indians have high carbohydrate diet. You have to closely observe your plate and you can come up with a better diet plan for yourself. To simplify it, identify the items which are carb rich in your plate and try to compensate the same with protein and fibres, for eg cut down a roti and increase sabji, dal or salad. To have a better control you can do a monthly self glucose monitoring 3 times a day and keep a track of your food with it. Check fasting sugar, sugar one hour prior your lunch and 2 hrs post lunch, and note down the details of your breakfast and lunch items. Modify as per my earlier suggestions and within a week you will see your blood sugar level responding. Best of luck.

As diabetes is metabolic condition in which an individual affected would have rise in blood glucose level either due to insulin production is not sufficient or body's cells do not respond properly to insulin or both.

Symptoms:

- frequent urination and increased thirst 

- unexplained weight loss

- scabies and scratchiness on skin feet getting numb or cramps in legs 

Causes:

- lack of exercise and obesity

There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed to protect against future flares or prevent gout or uric acid problems from occurring in the first instance: Maintain a high fluid intake (2-4 liters a day) Avoid alcohol Maintain a healthy body weight Eat a balanced diet Limit fish, meat and poultry intake. If attempting to lose weight, avoid low-carbohydrate diets. If carbohydrate intake is insufficient, the body is unable to burn its own fat properly, releasing substances called ketones into the bloodstream. This results in a condition called ketosis that can increase the level of uric acid in the blood. It is most important to avoid foods that are high in purines, to ensure that the levels of uric acid in the blood do not get too high. Here is a list of high-purine foods to be wary of: Beef kidneys Brains Dried beans and peas Liver Mackerel Mushrooms Lose some weight by walking or other exercise, avoid meats and get always be on a prescribed diet as prescribed by a registered dietitian. Hello, as your grandfather has uncontrolled blood sugar level, and has vision problem in one eye, you should consult opthalmologist first and rule out diabetic retinopathy (common complication of eye related to diabetes), and get him checked throughly for other diabetes related complications too like nephropathy, neuropathy etc. Consult urgently, without wasting time.

My age 45 years. Weight 86 kg. Apparently I have a very week body immune against temperature variations. I understand things after analyzing the things for long time and thereby very slow response or dumb type response. Most of the time absent minded and lack of concentration. Introvert lier tea totaler non smoker ridiculous and many more other bad qualities. Presently suffering with knee pains , and oral ulsar for last two years. Biopsy was non conclusive, blood sugar fasting 135. Feeling very week after fasting. Gas problem after eating. Tired after walking. Lost after reading. Please advise what to do?

You seem to be over occupied with your own thought process. Yes being introvert is one of the reasons for the way you feel. You are reading too much between the lines and so your concentration on the happenings around you is less and you think you are absent minded. You have got a kind of guilty conscience about your so called bad qualities, which can be corrected by sincere efforts. Having sugar level 135 is not anything which you have to worry for. The feeling of weakness might be due to your negative thoughts and loss of appetite and poor nutrition. The same may be the cause of mouth ulcers. Think on a positive note and many things can change dramatically.

Limit fat to 25%-35% of your total daily calories. Get no more than 7% of your daily calories from saturated fat, 10% or less from polyunsaturated fats, and up to 20% from monounsaturated fats (like plant oils or nuts). Keep carbs to 50%-60% of your daily calories. Aim for 20-30 grams of fiber each day. Allow 15% to 20% of your daily calories for protein. Cap cholesterol at less than 200 milligrams per day.
