Weight loss will help him solve most of the problems. Ask him to follow a healthy diet & lifestyle regimen. He should increase his physical activity level. Regular 1 hr brisk walk in morning will be good. Having small frequent meals at regular intervals instead of 3-4 large ones is essential. He should eat slowly & chew food well. Take stairs instead of lift & walk instead of hiring transport. Avoid junk/ processed/ packaged/ sugary/ fired foods, soft & hard drinks, refined carbs (sugar, potato, white rice, sabudana, jaggery, honey, noodles, white bread, biscuit, cake). Instead have plenty of whole fruits & vegetables. Include whole grains (atta, dalia, suji, jowar, bajra, barley, oats, brown rice) vitamin d- sunlight exposure between 12-2 for 20 mins, shiitake mushrooms, fatty fish, cod oil capsule (2 daily post meal). Uric acid- avoid seafood, chicken. Include low fat dairy (curd, buttermilk, lassi, channa, milk). Not more than 1 bowl pulse a day. Maintain optimal body weight. Cholesterol- weight loss, avoid- yolk portion of egg, red meat, saturated fats, trans fats, fried foods.

Bypass surgery - Don't be afraid, best treatment for heart attack.

Cardiologist, Mumbai
Bypass surgery - Don't be afraid, best treatment for heart attack.
If you are patient of coronary artery disease (heart attack /chest pain) patient, don't get afraid. In modern era bypass surgery provides best available option for its treatment.
Now we do bypass on beating heart complication rate is very low and death rate is less than 1%.
Now total arterial bypass surgery is there so patients are symptom free for 20 to 25 yrs post bypass surgery which can not be achieved by angioplasty or other modes of treatment.
So if your more than two artery are blocked you should go for bypass surgery which is always superior to angioplasty (stent).
Cost of surgery and angioplasty are same. So its better to go for bypass surgery in above mentioned cases.

UAM suffering from low back pain list 2 weeks and I have chest pain can you suggest what should be done.

MSPT (Master of Physical Therapy)
Physiotherapist,
UAM suffering from low back pain list 2 weeks and I have chest pain can you suggest what should be done.
If you have pain at the mid of your back there is a chance that it gets radiated towards front resembling chest pain or else you may have flat back which puts over workload to your chest area- upper back joints and ribs which may cause such pain. Exercises: 1. Lie on the abdomen and lift your upper body from ground as much as possible and let is down - repeat for 15-20 times. ****don't hold breath and do this - breath in when you lift and breath out when you relax towards ground*****. 2. Lie on your back - have a towel roll under the paining area - lift your hands above head and place on floor - bend your knees - breath in and out fully for 20-25 times.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I am sure there should be a number of hospitals and clinics catering to all the three conditions. Those can offer good treatment and regular guidance in terms of diet, exercise, treatment and any other related issues. Even I can help you online to control those three conditions effectively in terms drug therapy, routine follow up, investigations which may be needed periodically, dietary advice and exercise schedule and any other related issues. If you are willing to my help then please come back with following details: Fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, present drugs with dosage, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise, weight, height, BP readings, thyroid test results and lipid profile, then I will be able to guide specifically. We can set up a follow up schedule to suit your needs. There can be phone calls, and or video calls too. Choice is yours. Thanks.

1) It is very good that you are doing regular walking as it is good for BP control, also I hope you are taking dietary precautions alongwith walking. 2) Please understand that it is possible that your BP is well controlled because with both medicines and precautions, what you can do is trying to stop the medication under supervision of your doctor with regular BP monitoring, if without medications your BP remains controlled you can stop the medicine and then get your BP checked periodically.
