My teeth are becoming yellow and my mouth is smelling bad so give me some measure to get rid of this problem?
FOR YELLOW TEETH: The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use Snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply SNOWDENT paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results. FOR BAD BREATH: •Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person.

Hello. Sudden gum pain can be caused if something sharp had pricked on your gums. If not it can be due to pocket ie food lodgment in gums. You need scaling and local drug delivery to that particular gum region.

Restricted mouth opening has many reasons. First of all you should stop habits like chewing tobacco, smoking, chewing guthka, pan masala, betel nuts. Visit your dentist for peoper diagnosis. He will b able to determine the severity of your disease and plan out treatment accordingly. If less severe he will give you medicines, if more severe he may ask you to go for injections.

ORAL BRUSH BIOPSY

MDS, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
ORAL BRUSH BIOPSY

Oralcdx (oralcdx laboratories, inc. Suffern, ny), the oral brush biopsy with computer aided analysis, is a diagnostic tool that identifies dysplasia in common oral spots that often have no suspicious clinical features. In comparison to exfoliative cytology, the brush biopsy technique collects cells from the full thickness of the oral epithelium. An oral brush biopsy is a chair-side, painless, easy to perform a test that can be used to identify any suspicious lesion including common small white and red oral lesions to rule out dysplastic features. Since most oral lesions are benign in nature, most test results are likely to be benign. Almost 10% of all cases usually turn out to be abnormal. Based on the results, the laboratory advises specific guidance on these abnormal cases sometimes recommending scalpel biopsy, observation or retesting.

First of all human beings have three molars on each side of mouth so, the third molar is itself called as wisdom teeth. So if your wisdom or third molar is coming inclined towards adjacent teeth then go for extraction or removal of your wisdom teeth.

Is oil pulling good for oral health? I am using Parachute coconut oil. Please advise. This is in reference to this article There was this nice article by that on Oil Pulling. Please check: BREAKING MYTHS ON OIL PULLING – Oil pulling is a technique that involves swishing 1 - 2 tablespoon of oil in the mouth on an empty stomach. This is to be done first thing in the morning for 10 - 20 minutes, making sure that no oil is swallowed. The most commonly used oil is coconut oil, due to its antiseptic properties. This action supposedly draws out toxins from the oral cavity to improve oral hygiene. Yes, it is important to maintain oral hygiene on a regular basis which is why we brush our teeth everyday, rinse the mouth after eating and prevent collection of food in between the teeth. Most important for oral hygiene is the nature of food we put into our mouths. Whether they are whole, fresh, raw and natural, or whether they are fragmented, refined, fried, sugary or machine made, which bacteria in our teeth adore! When it comes to oil pulling, for maintaining oral health, the fact remains that we are coating our mouth with an immiscible (unmixable) liquid. This blocks the porous cell wall in the mouth, preventing the natural exchange of nourishment and removal of toxicity. With oil pulling, this toxicity actually gets trapped within the cell leading to damage. Cleaning of toxins is an automatic, internal function done by the body. When the body is given time, space and energy, it cleans all its toxic debris by itself. Like we don’t do anything for the body to breathe or pump blood, there is no need to externally activate the cleansing process. When cleaning is activated externally, in isolation, in the oral cavity, cells in other parts of the body also get activated. This activation can lead to inflammation, ulceration, induration in either the oral cavity or another part of the body. A domino effect is created. The swishing movement works towards creating a pumping action. This opens up the lymphatic channels which is why the toxins move out. This is short term. Once the channels open, they need material to clean toxin which oil does not provide. Though short term superficial action of cleaning occurs in the mouth, long term the teeth become weak. The fact remains, that Nature does not provide us fat in its isolated form as oil. Nature has provided fat in the form of absorbable fatty acids which are in the form of Nuts. While Nuts are provided by Nature, oil is a refined by-product of Nuts. It is a myth that oil pulling is done using a natural product. Secondly, the fact that not a single drop of oil should reach the stomach is enough reason to believe it is not based on Natural principles. Thirdly, oil makes the medium of the oral cavity, acidic. In acid, germs breed. The oral cavity is full of natural microbial flora, which are necessary and required to break down food. In an acidic medium this good microbial flora changes into so called bad germs. Lastly, ever tried swishing oil for 10 to 20 minutes? Non stop? In that time you could be drinking fresh coconut water, or chewing on a juicy Mango, to ensure a naturally alkaline oral environment!

Do metallic dental bridges / implants effect the functioning of the pacemaker. Does the person having the pacemaker fitted, have any restrictions on the dental bridges / implants must be metal free? Pl. adv. Thanks & best regards,

BDS - Orthodontist, Root Canal, Cosmetic & Aesthetic Dentist, MScD, PGDMLS
Dentist, Bhopal
There is no direct relationship between having a metal bridge in mouth and functionality of a cardiac pacemaker. All you need is an extensive clean mouth and be free of periodontal or gum problems that may occur due to food deposits around these artificial prosthesis, alternatively you may choose to have all ceramic bridge in mouth that are easily made now a days but are comaritively expensive but again keep in mind the hygiene factor. please undergo a antibiotic prophylacsis before you go for invasive dental procedure anytime in future.

Hello sir, I am brushing my teeth daily twice and not in habit of tobacco, smoking, etc. But my mouth smell very bad....
Bad breath can be due to various reasons other than dental problems too. If you have any issues like constipation or acidity or sinusitis etc, you need to get the root cause of the problem treated. In the meanwhile you can use any over the counter mouthwash and maintain a good oral hygiene which will reduce the bad smell to some extent. Also, you need to get your teeth examined by a dentist to check for any accumulated tartar in between your teeth which can lead to the problem, this can be easily overcome by a thorough dental cleaning.
