Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are around 51 years of age, and pain is towards inner knee aspect. Anyway is it possible for you to send me a clinical picture of your knee and an x ray if you have already done it? also tell me whether there is any associated swelling, skin redness or local warmth over the skin? what medicines do you generally take for other conditions? my advice to you till the time I can see your investigations and image is - continue with ice packs - limb elevation at night - if possible, use a brace for mobilization - take an anti-inflammatory medication for 5-7 days as per your body's suitability please let me know with image and x rays. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

What is the difference between Teeth scaling and Teeth Polishing? Also! Give advantages and Disadvantages of both?

BDS
Dentist, Ahmedabad
Teeth cleaning removes the deposits n stains from the tooth surfaces while polishing smoothens the minor irregularities n makes the surface well-polished. Both have only advantages. Some people feel little sensitivity after cleaning which requires no treatment in the most cases. Rest may use a desensitising toothpaste for a few days.

I am kumar, male, aged about 56 years and residing in chennai. I am suffering with digestive disorders such as lack of appetite, indigestion, severe underweight, malnutrition, slight watery stools, rapid graying of scalp and facial hair, eczema on face, constipation, and a feeling of heaviness in the stomach. I had undergone endoscopy 4 times and colonoscopy once and RUT test. Nothing was revealed except gastritis, IBS, non specific proctocolitis and GERD. I had undergone stool tests on 4 0ccasions but only once giardia lamblia was detected. Even stool culture test did not reveal anything. Is there any test to determine nature of microbiota in the intestine. I am severely under nourished and underweight. I do not feel like taking food. One gastro doctor at chennai suggest for cat scan of abdomen. I am afraid to undergo this test as I am scared of exposure to radiation. Can any one suggest some good probiotics and probiotics to cure this nuisance disease permanently. Will chronic giardiasis of long duration cause cancer? I am loosing my hair quickly, I tried all shampoos but no effect. Tell me the solution to this.

B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition, Nutrition Certification,Registered Dietitian
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi
1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home) 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like Egg, Yougurt and Lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5.Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6.Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7.You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8.You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain ph balance of your hair. 9.Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in Vitamin C like amla and oranges. 10.Drink lots of water to flush out toxins from the body.

How important is diet for a person of 25 years old, who is working and also preparation for higher education? I work 12 hours a day in a manufacturing unit. Finding time to study regularly and maintain my diet is very hard altogether. Kindly enlighten me with some tips so as to be efficient with my studies which is my almost priority? Also please tell me how much to sleep regularly? Also about power naps.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
The last part of your question is very relevant. If you are studying hard, you will need at least 9 hours of sleep. The diet is very important and so the suggestions below will help in many regards for your studies. Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

By going into depression will not solve your problem, but you will have to find a solution of your present condition on your own and nobody will help you or guide you, you will have to use your own brain to come out of this depression and my homoeopathic medicines will help you in this direction but I want you only to take help of these medicines for few days and once normal, leave these medicines as I do not want lybrate-userto be medicine dependent. Most of the successful people in this world have made their own way in their own terms and conditions but you simply by saying depression seems that you are scared of this world. Do not be scared and come out of your own created web and be a man. You can do what others can do, you just need motivation and nothing else. Work hard on your goals, only then it will be yours. No doubt that you are going through tough time presently but you will have to come out of it positively ------------- one day you will surely thank me for these suggestions homoeopathic medicine alpha ts (wilmar schwabe india) drink 20 drops in 20 ml fresh water 3 times daily for 15 days. Passiflora inc q (dr reckeweg) drink 40 drops in 20 ml fresh water 15 minutes before sleep bramari pranayam daily.
