Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as your problem. If you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied 3-4 times in a day - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc if you do not improve in 2-3 weeks with this conservative management, we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

I have back pain and headache for 2 weeks please help me n ans my question.
Hi, as regards your back pain, you may apply any good quality and over the counter pain relief gel. Herbal sprays are better and work faster than gels. Post applying gel, gently apply heat (low to medium as much as you can withstand) on the back side for about 30 to 45 minutes. Also, take care not to do any strenuous physical activities including lifting heavy weights et al. Again, your headache could be because of multiple reasons including dietary, lifestyle, stress, migraine, anxiety owing to personal or professional issues or any other physical problem with you. Do streamline your diet and avoid oily and fried stuff. Consume more of fresh fruits & vegetables and stay hydrated, drink 8 - 10 glasses of water daily. Streamline your lifestyle, exercise (brisk walk) daily for at least 30 minutes, and try reducing your stress levels at work and also at home. You must stay relaxed and de-stress yourself through either prayer, yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises etc all. Take care of your posture/ ergonomics while at work and also while at home. All the very best and take care.

I am mother. Two weeks back I fell down from my couch and suffered sprain in my right shoulder. I visited a doctor who suggested I have stretched and injured the ligaments. Treated with medications, still I am having difficulty in raising up and articulating my right arm. I noticed further more the skin under the right biceps is sagging while the same is fine with my left arm. Kindly suggest what can be done. Thanks.

Well, you have rotator cuff tear. It happens in this age group commonly. Most doctors don't take it seriously. You need specialist care. Shoulder specialist orthopedic surgeon. Even general orthopaedic surgeon may ignore it. If its cuff tear because of trauma, you need to get mri with 3 tesla machine at the earliest. Longer you weight, worse is outcome if it's cuff tear.
