I have pain in legs and hands. When I was travelling automatically my hands and legs are going in big size.
Goodevening lybrate-user your feet and hands getting into a big size is due to swelling. When there is no movement of feet for a long time there can be swelling. You could tie a crape bandage on your feet whenever you are travelling so that the swelling does not come. When your lying down make sure that your feet are elevated over two pillows. This will increase blood supply and reduce swelling in your feet. The pain is due to the swelling as soft tissue and muscles get a bit cramped. Make sure you place your feet and hands in a cold water and then luke warm water. All this will help in reducing pain and swelling.

Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

I am 28 year old female and it professional. Since last month I am having pain in left side of the body (left hand, leg, ear, chest and left side of head). This pain occurs occasionally and not a continuous pain. Along with this most of the time numbness occurs in my left hand and left leg. Also the finger tips of left hand get swell and I feel as if there is no sensation in my hand. I feel weakness and shivering sensations. Also suffering from loss of appetite and insomnia. Please suggest which kind of doctor should I consult?

It appears to be a musculo skeletal problem. May I know the profession you pursue. I feel it is a work related problem. Otherwise so many complications cannot come up as all are interrelated to each other. Stress the main reason and learn to manage the same. Plan properly and do what you can. Do not force things on you to achieve everything under the sun. Be realistic and everyone. Has limitations. Try the following sincerely and give the feedback after a week. When the pain is on, press and release the right hand little finger nail on both sides 20 times. While pressing breath in and breath out while releasing. Also measure 3 finger breadth from the wrist crease of your palm and give pressure with your finger or with a blunt edge of a pen 10 times. Apart from this devote some time for breathing and and meditation in the morning. Consult me with your progress for further guidance.

Waht do we do for the conservative management of hillsach or benkart lesion? Other than surgery would I go physiotherapy?

If you have bankart and hillsachs, best treatment is surgery. Other treatments are not useful. You have to avoid position which cause pain or dislocation. You must visit shoulder Arthroscopy surgeon.

Physio can help especially if the tear is small and partial. All the exercises need to be done under the supervision of a physio for at least 3 weeks. Thereafter, depending on how well your son is doing, physio might advise to continue exercising at home for another 3 to 4 weeks. Yuvraj singh, suresh raina & manoj tiwari all have had ligament tears. So we hope that solves the second part of your question & serves as an encouragement in your testing times. Regards, team.

I am 66. For the last 6 years, I have noticed the following disorders which are gradually worsening- eds - I have noticed lack of touch sense in penis from 2006 and suddenly, in 2009, eds set in. No erection. Incontinence - started in 2007 and I panicked, got some homeo treatment which didn' t give any relief. Now I am able to identify the onset and rush to nearest bathroom or disaster. Knee pain - since 2011, it started innocuously, but it' s now acute and I need to hold on to something before standing up, flex calf muscles for 10 secs before I can start walking, as the knees are wobbly. Tingling in feet up to waist - this is the 0ne I am worried about most. It was mild at first, in 2010. From 2013, it is constant, I sense 40% distinct decreased touch sensation. I have no sense of urine passing through penis. I have to feel with my finger similar to taking a pulse. Pain from knee down to ankle, heaviness in feet - I can' t walk for 100 yards without my feet getting so heavy that I become immobile. There is constant pain in the shins. My blood sugar test, doppler test of blood vessels in shins, urine test normal. Prostate ultra sound gives slight enlargement for last 10 years. It is not changing. Psa negative. Please advise. Thanx.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am dr akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. It seems from your history that you have significant compression in lower spine region and I must say that you have neglected your treatment to a great extent because if there is peri-anal or saddle numbness, difficulty in passing urine, numbness in legs, you must get yourself evaluated and rule out cauda equina syndrome. I advise you to get in touch of a spine surgeon immediately, get required tests done like mri and x rays of spine, nerve conduction studies of lower limbs and get adequate treatment. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards dr akshay kumar saxena consultant orthopaedics fortis hospital, new delhi

Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Any way take ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days caldikind plus (mankind) 1 tab odx10days you will need other supportive medicines also. Take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with.
