5 Ways To Prevent Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods!

5 Ways To Prevent Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods!

Many women experience unusual vaginal bleeding between periods at some point in their lives. It is also known as metrorrhagia. Vaginal bleeding is thought to be abnormal in the following cases:
1. When your menstrual period is not expected
2. When your menstrual flow is lighter or heavier than normal
3. At unexpected stages in life. For example, when you are pregnant or after you have attained menopause.

Bleeding during periods is not a normal condition. Usually, the duration of the cycle is about 21 – 35 days. Abnormal vaginal bleeding has numerous conceivable causes. Independently, it doesn't show a genuine condition.

  1. Mid-cycle bleeding can be caused due to ovulation.
  2. Two hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle are progesterone or oestrogen. A condition of hormonal imbalance which is known as Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOs) causes interference with normal ovulation. This results in problems in thyroid glands as well as causes dysfunctional ovaries.
  3. Medications such as birth control pills are capable of causing abnormal bleeding, especially with the irregular intake of such medications.
  4. Infections or inflammation caused in the pelvic regions such as uterus, vagina, cervix, ovaries or fallopian tubes are capable of causing abnormal bleeding. STIs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) and PIDs (Pelvic inflammatory disease) are often the cause of such a condition.
  5. Although Cancer is not one of the primary causes, cancer in organs such as the uterus, vagina, cervix and ovaries are capable of causing abnormal bleeding during periods.

How it can prevented

  1. Maintaining a healthy diet. Women who are either underweight or overweight tend to have more problems with abnormal bleeding
  2. Relaxation practices should be followed so that stress is reduced. Stress can cause abnormal bleeding.
  3. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) should be consumed to reduce menstrual bleeding. Examples are ibuprofen or naproxen.
  4. In case of consumption, birth control pills should be taken as per the prescription only and regularly at the same time.
  5. Hormone therapy (using external hormones in a medical treatment) can be used in order to regulate menstrual cycles, stabilize the endometrium which is the lining of the uterus as well as to rectify hormonal imbalances. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

I am 30 years old lady. Recently I m diagnosed with hypothyroid and diabetes both are borderline. Taking 25 mg pill for thyroid daily and half 750 mg pill for diabetes. I have one child and now want to plan for second child. My periods are also always irregular. Is it related to thyroid n diabetes? and what are my chances of conceiving. I am doing course to normalize my periods.

No need to worry about. Although you might be facing some problems in conceiving initially but if you keep your thyroid nd sugar levels normal then there r good chances.

Please go to a gynecologist so that her health can be assessed properly. The doctor may ask for some basic tests and USG abdomen and pelvis if required. Follow the instructions and revert with the feedback.

Pain before and during menses is common. If the pain is tolerable and does not hamper her work schedule in anyway then would suggest no medicine is needed. If she is losing work days because of the pain then she needs to be treated for her dysmenorrhea. Ask her to increase her water intake and protein intake by including peanuts, green peas in her diet especially before menses. Warm fomentation of the area might help.

Pregnancy can be terminated with medicines only till 7 weeks of pregnancy. You need to hurry to get the abortion done with medicines as you must be around 6-7 weeks by now. Dates are calculated from the first day of last menses. Gynecologist only can write a prescription for you. There r very few side effects but they r easily manageable.

Dear lybrate user, sometimes periods can get delayed due to such pills. And next few periods can be irregular. Usually these rapid tests are reliable, but not 100%. Although periods can get delayed, but that doesn't mean you ll just sit and wait for them. You should undergo an ultrasound of lower abdomen (better tvs. That will clear the picture and we can plan what to do further. Don't take any medicine right now

If you happen to have sex on regular basis and don't want the risk of even accidental pregnancy, condoms are not reliable mode of contraception. I- pill is an emergency contraceptive and must be used judiciously. Its better to resort to more efficient modes of contraception like OCPills (if you want to delay 1st pregnancy, or intrauterine contraceptive devices like multiload or Copper T (if you want spacing between two pregnancies. Hormonal injections like DMPA and implants are other equally reliable options. As far as torn condom is concerned, chances of pregnancy depend on the fertile period. If your wife is in fertile period you may opt for I-Pill, but don't make it a habit as I-pill can hv serious side effects.
