Hello lasik is very good option to get rid of glasses Doctor will perform few tests (Schirmer test, Pentacam and Fundus examination) and if all tests are normal then you can go for lasik surgery without fear. Success rate of LASIK is over 96%.

Dermal Villars under eyes 4 weeks ago. Left eye very swollen becoming worse. Is this normal.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Swelling or puffiness of the eyes has various causes associated with it. (1) age related distribution of fat. With progressive time and age there occurs a re-distribution of a lot of body fat. This may lead to puffiness/ sagging/ bagginess of the lower eyelids. (2) excessive alcohol consumption has at times seen to be associated with puffiness of eyelids. (3) hypersensitivity/ allergy of the eyes may cause puffiness. It may be caused due to dust, pollen, insect bite, etc. (4) thyroid level fluctuation has at times been seen to be associated with puffiness of eyelids. (5) excessive obesity has been shown to be associated with puffiness of eyelids. (6) extreme condition such as orbital cellulitis: very rare. Also, it is usually associated with eye injury, surgery, systemic infection, etc. It is very less likely to be so in your case. (7) grave's disease: this has a tendency to be associated with thyroid disease (or other autoimmune conditions). It s also rare. It is associated with fatigue and weakness that progresses throughout the day. Thus, it would be a good idea to identify in the category that you come into and then tackle the situation. The reason for this being that each cause would have a different pattern of treatment.

Sitting Too Close To TV Will Weaken Your Eyes? FALSE.

Sitting Too Close To TV Will Weaken Your Eyes? FALSE.

5 myths about eye health and the real facts behind them

Your eyes are an important part of your health. There are many things you can do to keep them healthy and make sure you are seeing your best. However, there are a number of myths regarding what you should do and what you shouldn't do when it comes to maintaining good eye health.

Here are 5 of those myths busted:

Myth #1: reading in dim light and sitting too close to the tv hurts your eyes

Fact: sitting too close to the tv, you may feel eye strain or get a headache from reading in the dark, but it will not weaken your eyes. It fatigues your eyes but does not harm your eye health in any way.

Myth #2: eating carrots will improve your vision

Fact: carrots are rich in vitamin a, a nutrient essential for good vision. But eating carrots will only provide a small amount of vitamin a. To get the optimum amount, you need to include other sources of vitamin a in your diet as well, some of which are milk, cheese, egg yolk and liver. Spinach is best for eye health. It has lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which can help prevent cataracts.

Myth #3: if you wear glasses or contacts for a continuous period, your eyes will weaken

Fact: your eyes will not grow weaker by using corrective lenses. The prescription may change over time due to aging or absence of disease but it has nothing to do with your current prescription. Some children have correctable eye problems that do require glasses to improve the condition.

Myth #4: when you get something in your eye, rub it out

Fact: this is not true for everything that gets in your eyes. If any particle falls in your eyes dust it off. But if it is sand and small debris that gets in your eye, don't touch it. Use an eye wash for flushing it out. If an object gets stuck in your eye, don't remove it or rub your eye constantly. Visit a doctor at the earliest because some serious injuries may seem minor at first.

Myth #5: dark sunglasses can protect your eyes from the sun

Fact: the color of sunglass does not ensure eye protection. Look for sunglasses that block both uva and UVB rays. Exposure to the UV-rays of sunlight can have cumulative effects on your eyes. It increases your risk for cataracts, solar retinitis, and age-related vision loss. Even if your contacts have UV protection, wear sunglasses that block 100% of uva and UVB rays for full protection.

Sir/mam I had a sphenoidal meningioma tumor in right side of my brain. It has damaged my vision nerves. Tumour has been removed by the surgeon but I have not get back my right eye vision, according to surgeon my right vision nerves has been damaged because of tumor and it became dry. Doctor has said that it has no medicine in allopathy for dried nerves. I want to know it there any hope for me in Homeopathy. Kindly suggest me best treatment.

DNB Ophtalmology, MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Unfortunately Optic nerve cells once die can't regenerate. At least not yet. So none of the systems of medicine will be able to help regain lost nerve fibres. I hope you had a baseline visual field test done for left eye. I will also strongly recommend you have regular dilated comprehensive eye examination once a year to ensure your left eye remains healthy and in case of any disease it is detected at soonest.

Dear lybrate user, flying lines and things you see are shadows of small bubbles in the tear fluid within your eyes. Nothing to worry about that. Can reduce eye number by eye exercises and nutrition. Take care.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS

Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 26 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

I have red eyes for last three days doctor what should I do and what type of medicine should I take please answer doctor.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Lybrate itching, rednessredness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. You could also use a lubricant eye drop along with an anti histamine eye drop 3-4 times a day. In case you have a family history of eye disorder such as glaucoma, it would be a better idea to undergo a thorough eye checkup by a specialist in person. Pain in the eyes would be a good indication to get your eye pressures checked. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Sir I have very week eyes my eyes power are -8.5 diopter is there are any kind of eyes surgery Available so I can reduce my eye power and turn my weak vision to normal? If yes then how much it cost?

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Hello, for spectacle removal you can go for lasik surgery but to ascertain whether you are a suitable candidate for this you have to get some tests done in an eye clinic to calculate your corneal thickness and see its contour. Your eye power should also be stable for atleast 6 months before you opt for surgery. To prevent retinal degenerative changes due to high number take balanced diet with more green vegetables and fruits. Take some multivitamin supplements and fish or fish oil. Take care.
