Must to be watchful as these hard pieces can be stacked in lower esophagus. But difficult to say at this point. Give lot of fibers containing food so that it can easily come out.

yes, many times it is normal. if your child is gaining weight properly, you need not to worry. general rule is the weight of the baby should get double at sixth month and triple at 1st birth day with reference to birth weight.

Hi my son is 7 months old his control was little bit weak. My neurologist asked us to take mri. Results of mri 1. Mild thining of body and splenium of corpus callosum seen with periventriclar hyperintensities. 2. Partial empty sella is seen 3. Dialted vr spaces noticed in left inferior putamen. 4. No obivious demostrable infarct or hemorrhage orsqlin brain parenchyma. Possibility of mild form of perinatal insult is more likely neurologist said nothing bad he is ok but my pediatrician said there will be developmental delay. Which one one right. What to do?

Pediatrician, Pune
Mri reports reflect there has been some perinatal insult, there is periventricular involvement, which could cause some developmental delay, but early intervention by developmental pediatrician with physiotherapy can reduce the problems, also there is partail empty sella, it is the place where the pituitary gland is situated which controls the hormonal system of the body, the child may also require hormonal studies to rule out any hormonal deficiencies, if required hormonal supplementation, please discuss with your pediatrician.

If baby is having lots of diper rashes, and using rashes cream also but its not decresing and crying a lot for that while passing stool and urine Please suggest immediate relief for that ?

DMB
Pediatrician, Chennai
You have not mentioned how long your baby is having diaper rash. Diaper rash is fungal if there are lots of spots near the border of the rash called satellite lesions. This may need antifungal creams. Passing urine and stools on a rash is very painful for the baby and so you have to use a lot of barrier creams like ezinapi or rashfree cream in spoonfuls, and not just a little bit. This has to be done every time you change the diaper. If the child is in lot of pain, you can give paracetamol. Please also give zinc preparation like sy zinconia or mintonia 2.5 ml twice a day for 2 weeks. I assume you are breast feeding.

Mother fed babies are slow and late to bowel movements at times. It is not the frequency which counts for the normality of a baby's potty. It is the consistency of stool to hold a bababy constipated or not. Pls bother about consistency not the frequency. Secondly in years case only twice or thrice in 2 months! if it is really so, in reliable information then it is a matter of concern. Pls check with pediattritian in person for any congenital (by birth) anal malformation (atritia) or stricture to be ruled ou.

Dear patient, you should not give yellow portion to the child as it can cause heat production in his body. You can give him, one egg white part daily, oats,500mlmilk/per day, and soak 2 almonds, half walnut overnight in water, in morning make their paste and nix in one glass milk, it will boost up baby's immunity power and brain too. Rest of the food items depends upon child's interest and your home made food but ensure that he will take variety of diet.

Normal ranges for ACTH are fairly broad and like cortisol levels are time-dependent. They also vary from assay to assay. A typical normal range for an 8 AM sample using the new assays is 10 to 50 picograms per milliliter (pg/ml); levels are usually less than 20 pg/ml at 4 PM and less than 5-10 pg/ml at midnight. People with insufficient cortisol production may exhibit symptoms such as: Muscle weakness. Fatigue. Weight loss. Increased skin pigmentation, even in areas not exposed to the sun. Loss of appetite. Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Dizziness. Salt cravings.

If he is eating well, sleeping well and urinating well, he is a normal baby. Weight record needs to be analysed to comment if there is any abnormality.

Febrile seizures-A nightmare

MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
Febrile seizures-A nightmare
FACTS:
1.Most febrile seizures occur in the first few hours of a fever, during the initial rise in body temperature. It occurs usually in children in age groups 3mths -5-6yrs.
2.Most febrile seizures last only a few minutes and are accompanied by a fever above 101°F (38.3°C). Although they can be frightening for parents, brief febrile seizures (less than 15 minutes) do not cause any long-term health problems.
3.Having a febrile seizure does not mean a child has epilepsy.
4Children at highest risk for recurrence are those who have:

their first febrile seizure at a young age (younger than 18 months)
a family history of febrile seizures
a febrile seizure as the first sign of an illness
a relatively low temperature increases with their first febrile seizure

What should be done in case of febrile seizure:

>Note the start time of the seizure. If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, call an ambulance.
> The child should be taken immediately to the nearest medical facility for diagnosis and treatment.
>Call an ambulance if the seizure is less than 5 minutes but the child does not seem to be recovering quickly.
>Gradually place the child on a protected surface such as the floor or ground to prevent accidental injury. Do not restrain or hold a child during a convulsion.
>Position the child on his or her side or stomach to prevent choking. When possible, gently remove any objects from the child’s mouth. Nothing should ever be placed in the child's mouth during a convulsion. These objects can obstruct the child's airway and make breathing difficult.
>Seek immediate medical attention if this is the child’s first febrile seizure and take the child to the doctor once the seizure has ended to check for the cause of the fever. This is especially urgent if the child shows sym.ptoms of stiff neck, extreme lethargy, or abundant vomiting, which may be signs of meningitis, an infection over the brain surface.

My son is going to be 1 years next month. He has got very less hair from birth that too his front head had no hair. We did head shave for him on 29th may n there is hardly a few hair at the back. It was really shocking for us since no one in our family has less hair. In fact I have never seen a bald person in our entire village. All the peoplel in our locality has good hair esp our family members have more. What might be the reason for this. Is it due to poor nutrition during pregnancy. Suggest some remedies to improve his hair growth.

My daughters age is 11 years .she attained puberty today on 3rd October 2016. I just wanted to know what is the correct age for puberty. And what diet should be given to her in her first periods. As the bleeding is very little. Is it normal? Could you please provide me with the do's and don't for first timers.

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
She is early in her first period. Usually girls get their first periods after 13 years of age. But nowadays getting early puberty is common. There is no need for specific diet during the menses. But make sure to gives foods like dates, jaggery, etc. Also, sometimes during menses, girls crave chocolate. It helps with the cramps. If she is having cramps, put a hot water bag on your belly to relieve pain.
