It appears if your son is suffering from asthma. For acute illness, hospitalization becomes necessary. You may add vit. A 60.000 units daily for a week which may reduce severity of illness.

Infants who are exclusively breastfed but who do not receive supplemental vitamin D or adequate sunlight exposure are at increased risk of developing vitamin D deficiency and/or rickets. Infants with darker pigmentation are at greater risk of vitamin D deficiency, a fact explained by the greater risk of deficiency at birth and the decreased vitamin D content in milk from women who themselves are deficient. Although vitamin D concentrations can be increased in milk of lactating women by using large vitamin D supplements, such high-dose supplementation studies in lactating women have not been validated and demonstrated to be safe in larger, more representative populations of women across various parts of the world. Recommendations to universally supplement breastfeeding mothers with high-dose vitamin D cannot be made at this time. Therefore, supplements given to the infant are necessary.

Importance Of Family Therapy For Treating Mental Health Problems In Children!

MBBS, MRCPsych (UK), CCST (General Adult Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry)

Importance Of Family Therapy For Treating Mental Health Problems In Children!

Often, issues faced by dysfunctional families take a toll on a child’s mental health, and various factors can lead to a child's mental health problems. Physical and verbal abuse and parental divorce are among other causes of mental health problems in children. Family therapy is one of the proven effective psychiatric procedures that help a child cope with mental health issues, and helps to direct the child’s life.

The Role of Family Therapy
Family therapy is also known as family focus therapy or family systems therapy works with families, to help them in dealing with a wide range of family problems. One such problem is a child’s mental illness.

Children, pre-teens and teens are continually going through a developmental phase during their formative years. This is the time when they are most vulnerable to the adverse impacts of life. Sometimes parents are not equipped to deal with the suffering child properly. This is where family therapy can significantly benefit families and children. The psychological process can help children in dealing with major issues such as bad conduct, mood disorders, drug abuse, and eating disorders.

It can include individual sessions amidst a series of family meetings, and when required. At times, even the social networks around families can be included.

Mental Issues That Family Therapy Focuses
Family therapy offers possible treatment for a wide range of conditions including a long-term illness such as depression. It is based on two principles. A mental illness is made only worse by a dysfunctional family. Immediate family relationships are the strongest support system for a child. This is what makes them most important during long-term treatments.

Family therapy focuses on treating and molding the way families, and parents interact with the child facing mental issues. It helps in strengthening parent and child bond, and also helps instill faith and confidence in the child dealing with mental issues. All these measures combined to bring the child on the road to recovery.

How Does It Work?
Family therapy is not a time-bound process, so its effectiveness depends on the child and family. The therapy has its various forms and can be integrated with one another, as and when the psychiatrist thinks it is necessary. Among its multiple forms are teaching coping skills, psychoeducation, behavioral models, structural family therapy, systematic models, and solution-focused therapy.

Family therapy has proven most effective during the childhood and adolescent stages, where it has shown significant improvement among children suffering from anorexia, inattention, hyperactivity and severe long-term illnesses such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, drug abuse and anxiety disorders among others. Family therapy can be very effective in wide range of psychiatric conditions.

Me and my wife are having cold and we have a 2 months baby, can you tell me how to prevent our baby from getting cold?

Me and my wife are having cold and we have a 2 months baby, can you tell me how to prevent our baby from getting cold?
Keep baby, s belongings separately, don't touch them or baby without washing your hands, don't sneeze near baby. Still even after these precautions your baby may carry cold, but don't worry its a self limiting minor ailment. Baby may not get cold at this age because of mother born immunity.

My Daughter 19 months old, started high fever for 101 degree two days ago. Consulted Paediatrician and Medication started with P125, Sinarest (both at different time) levolin and Fabilac. But she is getting high fever often with a light shiver, body get high heat but no all over, below abdomen it is chill, it varies in upper body. No Diarrhoea, Vomit (only water) was twice at the time of shiver. Within 2 hours she is normal. PD says it would be there till Friday. But doubt about the high fever but temperature varies, esp head get too high temp and her eyes blinks erratically. Is it a viral fever or anything else.

Generally a viral fever may last upto 4 - 5 days and in rare cases can last upto a week also, keep giving paracetamol evry 4-6 hours so that temperature is under control. If fever goes beyond 4-5 days you can get few blood test done to rule out any bacterial infection, if its bacterial infection, need to start on course of antibiotics which your pd will prescribe accordingly.

Hi my son age is 2.8, in the mid night he wants soaked rusk in milk, I don't know how to avoid that please give some suggestion to avoid his habit,

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Hi my son age is 2.8, in the mid night he wants soaked rusk in milk, I don't know how to avoid that please give some ...
From my side I will suggest you that feed your something at 2 hours intervals. In mid night he is asking for this, means his digestion is either faster, or his activity is more, so he needs more of nutrients, which his body is demanding. Soaked Rusk is full of carbohydrates, so you can give him more of chapatis, or rice during meals itself. So it will be sufficient nutrition for him. From your query, I can suggest you this. If still it not cleared, please let me know. Take care. :)
