How do I use basal body temperature and cervical mucus to predict ovulation?

How do I use basal body temperature and cervical mucus to predict ovulation?

If you're trying to get pregnant, it's helpful to know exactly when you ovulate so you can time sex accordingly. Many women have had success using ovulation predictor kits, which are handy because they tip you off before you ovulate. Others prefer to track their ovulation cycle by charting their basal body temperature (BBT) and monitoring their cervical mucus (CM).

What is basal body temperature ?

Your basal body temperature (BBT) is your lowest body temperature in a 24-hour period. To get an accurate reading, you must take your temperature when you first wake up in the morning, before you even sit up in bed. And you'll need to use a basal thermometer, which is sensitive enough to measure minute changes in body temperature. Try to wake up and take a reading at about the same time each morning.

Before ovulation, your BBT probably ranges from 97.2 to about 97.7 degrees Fahrenheit. But two or three days after you ovulate, hormonal changes cause a rise of 0.4 to 1.0 degree in your BBT, which lasts at least until your next period. If you become pregnant, your temperature will stay elevated throughout your pregnancy.

What is cervical mucus?

There are many different types of vaginal discharge, one of which is cervical mucus. Over the course of your menstrual cycle, the amount, color, and texture of your cervical mucus will change, thanks to fluctuating hormone levels. Checking your cervical mucus and keeping track of these changes can help you figure out when you're ovulating.

Beginning with your period, you'll, of course, have menstrual blood. When your period is over, you'll most likely be dry for several days. After that, you'll start to have cloudy mucus that's roughly the consistency of sticky rice. You're not very likely to conceive on any of these days.

A few days before ovulation, the mucus will become clear and slippery, very much like raw egg white, and you'll have more of it. This type of mucus means it's baby-making time as its clear, slippery quality makes it easier for the sperm to travel to the egg. The last day you see this egg-white consistency is the day that you're most fertile - usually the day before ovulation or the day of ovulation.

A good time to check your cervical mucus is when you first go to the bathroom in the morning.

Charting your basal body temperature and cervical mucus can help you look back on your cycle and see when ovulation happened.

Your most fertile period is during the three days leading up to ovulation. You can start a little earlier, too, if you want - some women have gotten pregnant from sex that happened six days before they ovulated.

You're fertile during this whole stretch because sperm can survive for five or six days in your body, and your ovum (the egg released at ovulation) can survive for one day. Most experts recommend having sex every day or every other day during your fertile period for the best chance of conceiving.

Dear user, I don't want to give you false hopes. You can not lose weight in 10 days. Permanent weight loss and building quality muscles should be the right approach to lose weight. Aim to lose 2-3 in one month. Your weight is controlled by 4 major factors (1) refined sugar consumption (2) exercise and hydration (3) posture and sitting (4) how many times do you indulge yourself - alcohol, binge eating at parties, overeating etc. Step 01: refined sugar 1. Avoid all snacks and commercial products with sugar in them - biscuits, cakes, bournvita, horlicks, coke, pepsi, energy drinks, sweetened yogurt etc. 2. Cut down on your daily intake of tea/coffee and maintain it at 3-4 cups a day. 3. Try to add little sugar to any beverage (coffee, tea, milk, lemon water etc.) that you have and ideally you should refrain from adding any sugar altogether. Step 02: get exercise and proper hydration 1. Try to work out for 20 minutes each day. You do not necessarily have to go to the gym. You can incorporate some pretty powerful exercises in your daily routine like - squats, skipping, surya namaskar and core exercises. 2. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday but remember that tea/coffee are not substitutes for pure water. Step 03: improve posture and sitting habits if you have a sitting job then ensure that you do not sit for more than 30 minutes at one stretch. Get up and move a little after every 30 minutes. Step 04: stop indulging and eat more of raw natural stuff 1. No more than 60 ml of hard liqour or 2 glasses of beer per day. 2. Try to eliminate the urge to overeat but if you do overeat try to limit the incidents to two times per week. 3. Eat 4 servings of fruits per day. 4. Each of your meal should contain 50% of raw vegetables. Once you incorporate the above points in your routine you will see a dramatic difference in your weight, physical shape and energy levels. You will find that there are a lot of companies out there that are trying to sell expensive products to naive consumers in the name of weight loss. These products may not necessarily be good for you. Losing and maintaining weight is something which is totally in your hands, it is easy and it is free of cost if you follow the above mentioned points.

I am upset due to over sweat. Clothes will be wet when I move from an air conditioned room. More over summer plays a lead role. Bad odour is another problem. How can we reduce sweat.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Heavy sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis) is a very real and embarrassing problem, but there are some effective ways to treat it. What Is Hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which produces a lot of unhappiness. An estimated 2-3% of people suffer from excessive sweating of the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) or of the palms and soles of the feet (palmoplantar hyperhidrosis). Underarm problems tend to start in late adolescence, while palm and sole sweating often begins earlier, around the age 13 (on the average). Untreated, these problems may continue throughout life. Sweating is embarrassing, it stains clothes, ruins personal contact, and complicates business and social interactions. Severe cases can have serious practical consequences as well, making it hard for people who suffer from it to hold a pen, grip a car steering wheel, or shake hands. Causes OF Hyperhidrosis:- Although neurologic, endocrine, infectious, and other systemic diseases can sometimes cause hyperhidrosis, most cases occur in people who are otherwise healthy. Heat and emotions may trigger hyperhidrosis in some, but many who suffer from hyperhidrosis sweat nearly all their waking hours, regardless of their mood or the weather. Antiperspirants This may be the first treatment that a dermatologist recommends. It is affordable. When applied as directed, an antiperspirant can be effective. Your dermatologist may recommend a regular or clinical-strength antiperspirant. Some patients need a stronger antiperspirant and receive a prescription for one. Iontophoresis (the no-sweat machine) If excessive sweating affects your hands, feet, or both areas, this may be an option. You will use this treatment at home. It requires you to immerse your hands or feet in a shallow pan of tap water. As you do this, a medical device sends a low-voltage current through the water. Many people obtain relief. Some people dislike that this treatment can be time-consuming. Uses: Hands and feet It works by the electric current shuts down the treated sweat glands temporarily. Side effects: Some people develop: • Dry skin • Irritated skin • Discomfort during treatment Prescription medicine Some patients receive a prescription for a medicine that temporarily prevents them from sweating. These medicines work throughout the body. However we cannot prescribe in open question answer session as a rule but you can ask in consultation. These medicines prevent the sweat glands from working. Athletes, people who work in a hot place, and anyone who lives in a warm climate should use extreme caution when using this treatment. The body may not be able to cool itself. Uses: These medicines can effectively treat sweating that involves entire body. This medicine also can be an effective treatment for post-menopausal women who sweat excessively only from their head. Side effects: The medicines that prevent the sweat glands from working can cause: • Dry mouth • Dry eyes • Blurry vision • Heart palpations (abnormal heartbeat) Surgery If other treatments fail to bring relief, surgery may be considered. Surgery is permanent and carries risks. The following surgeries can stop excessive sweating: • Surgically remove sweat glands • Sympathectomy A dermatologist can surgically remove sweat glands from the underarms. This surgery can be performed in a dermatologist’s office. Only the area to be treated is numbed, so the patient remains awake during the surgery. A dermatologist may use one or more of the following surgical techniques to remove sweat glands from the underarms: • Excision (cut out sweat glands) • Liposuction (remove with suction) • Curettage (scrape out) • Laser surgery (vaporize) Sympathectomy is another surgery used to treat hyperhidrosis. This is major surgery, which a surgeon performs in an operating room. During sympathectomy, the surgeon tries to stop the nerve signals that your body sends to the sweat glands. To do this, the surgeon will cut or destroy certain nerves. To find these nerves, the surgeon inserts a mini surgical camera into the patient’s chest just beneath the underarm. The patient’s lung must be temporarily collapsed so that the surgeon can cut or destroy nerves. Uses: • Surgical removal of sweat glands is used to treat the underarms • Sympathectomy is mainly used to treat the palms

To have a healthy and long hair does not depend only on the outside appearance of your hair but also on how healthy you are inside. Strong and healthy growth of your hair depends on a balanced diet. The nutrients that are consumed by the body fortify the hair follicles. For boosting hair growth, to prevent hair loss, to prevent dandruff, to have a healthy scalp, certain vitamins like Vitamin B, C, A, D and minerals like selenium, zinc, folic acid, iron and protein are required. You also require a good amount of Omega 3 fatty acids, which keep your hair scalp hydrated. Consuming foods having any or all of these nutrients are one of the solutions to long, healthy thick hair. You can take Wholegrains, like barley, oats, buckwheat, broken wheat, ragi, bajra ,Brown rice,Legumes like kidney beans, soy beans, dark green leafy vegetables ,eggs, carrots, tomatoes, sweet potato, fruits, yogurt, walnuts and almonds. Along with the dietary changes , you may massage your scalp with almond oil at night and rinse it next morning.

There is probably secondary infection. Best would be to open to wound and remove the clots. See you are surgeon again.
