Dear lybrate-user ji. Vitamin D and b12. Deficiency does not cause High BP perse. One of important cause is if your one or both parents having High BP. You are likely to have it in early age. Beside this there are so many other cause, like smoking, stress, kidney disease and other rare causes. You should consult some good cardiologist.

What is the best food and cure for blood pressure. Suggest me some better medicines for the high blood pressure. Please.

MBBS, Dip.Cardiology, Fellowship in Clinical Cardiology(FICC), Fellowship in Echocardiology

What is the best food and cure for blood pressure. Suggest me some better medicines for the high blood pressure. Please.
.Hi Normal range of blood pressure is between 90/60 to 140/90, anything above or below is is abnormal. Many factors can affect blood pressure, including: 1) The amount of water and salt you have in your body 2) The condition of your kidneys, nervous system, or blood vessels 3) Your hormone levels You are more likely to be told your blood pressure is too high as you get older. This is because your blood vessels become stiffer as you age. When that happens, your blood pressure goes up. High blood pressure increases your chance of having a stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, or early death. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It is an eating plan that is based on research studies sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). These studies showed that DASH lowers high blood pressure and improves levels of cholesterol. This reduces your risk of getting heart disease. The DASH Diet Emphasizes vegetables, fruits, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. Includes whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils. Limits sodium, sweets, sugary beverages, and red meats. Along with DASH, other lifestyle changes can help lower your blood pressure. They include staying at a healthy weight, exercising, and not smoking. I read your query, by the information I have in hand my advice to you would be 1) Keep a BP daily record for at least one week 2) Basic tests should be one to rule out cardiac / kidney issues 3) unless any recent evaluation has been done I would advice these test ECG ECHO Lipid Profile TSH KFT  Renal doppler  Get back to me with a detailed history and  old / new records for a better individualized advice.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Medications for heart attack !

Medications given to treat a heart attack include:

Aspirin. The 911 operator may instruct you to take aspirin, or emergency medical personnel may give you aspirin immediately. Aspirin reduces blood clotting, thus helping maintain blood flow through a narrowed artery.
Thrombolytics. These drugs, also called clotbusters, help dissolve a blood clot that's blocking blood flow to your heart. The earlier you receive a thrombolytic drug after a heart attack, the greater the chance you'll survive and with less heart damage.
Antiplatelet agents. Emergency room doctors may give you other drugs to help prevent new clots and keep existing clots from getting larger. These include medications, such as clopidogrel (Plavix) and others, called platelet aggregation inhibitors.
Other blood-thinning medications. You'll likely be given other medications, such as heparin, to make your blood less "sticky" and less likely to form clots. Heparin is given intravenously or by an injection under your skin.
Pain relievers. You may receive a pain reliever, such as morphine, to ease your discomfort.
Nitroglycerin. This medication, used to treat chest pain (angina), can help improve blood flow to the heart by widening (dilating) the blood vessels.
Beta blockers. These medications help relax your heart muscle, slow your heartbeat and decrease blood pressure, making your heart's job easier. Beta blockers can limit the amount of heart muscle damage and prevent future heart attacks.
ACE inhibitors. These drugs lower blood pressure and reduce stress on the heart.
Surgical and other procedures

In addition to medications, you may undergo one of the following procedures to treat your heart attack:

Coronary angioplasty and stenting. Doctors insert a long, thin tube (catheter) that's passed through an artery, usually in your leg or groin, to a blocked artery in your heart. If you've had a heart attack, this procedure is often done immediately after a cardiac catheterization, a procedure used to locate blockages.

This catheter is equipped with a special balloon that, once in position, is briefly inflated to open a blocked coronary artery. A metal mesh stent may be inserted into the artery to keep it open long term, restoring blood flow to the heart. Depending on your condition, your doctor may opt to place a stent coated with a slow-releasing medication to help keep your artery open.

Coronary artery bypass surgery. In some cases, doctors may perform emergency bypass surgery at the time of a heart attack. If possible, your doctor may suggest that you have bypass surgery after your heart has had time ? about three to seven days ? to recover from your heart attack.

Bypass surgery involves sewing veins or arteries in place beyond a blocked or narrowed coronary artery, allowing blood flow to the heart to bypass the narrowed section.

Once blood flow to your heart is restored and your condition is stable, you're likely to remain in the hospital for several days.

High blood pressure is mainly due to excess salt intake or too many tensions in life. Advise him to take enough sleep for 7-8 hours. And indulge in yoga, meditation. Exercise also helps to relieve tension and decrease bp. Hence he should start with a 10 mins brisk walk and slowly increase to 30 mins per day. Regarding diet. Salty things lead to high bp. Reduce the intake of salt per day. Salt intake should be less than 2.5gms (1/2 teaspoon). Strictly avoid all chutneys, pickles, papad, samosa, bajjis, mirchi, chips, fryums, other deep fried snacks, processed foods etc. All together diet and exercise and relaxation practices if monitored strictly will reduce bp my 10 mm. LDL is increased only if you consume alot of dalda, meat, deep fried foods and other processed foods as mentioned above. Cut down on oil consumption by consuming everyday dal (pulses) rather than fried vegetables. Example. Palak dal (spinach dal) is preferable than palak sabji (fried spinach curry) Hence make side dishes where you loose less oil only for seasoning and not for cooking. For further more tips you can consult online.

How can I treat coronary heart disease naturally and increase blood flow to the heart.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
How can I treat coronary heart disease naturally and increase blood flow to the heart.
Heart muscles have lots of blood vessels lying low and they are called collaterals, they open up and start functioning to increase the blood flow to heart in case one or more of the vessels is blocked partially but there are no symptoms of angina/ heart attack. Natural ways are moderate exercise, no smoking, no exposure to pollution, fresh oxygen through plants, less stress and as I can read, you are taking a heart protective medicine called beta blocker, this too relaxes blood vessels of heart to increase blood supply. Continue all of the above but do get checked for blockages.

Hyperthyroidism will cause Tachycardia or fast heart rate. This condition combined with Severe AS /Mod AR will cause further deterioration of cardiac functions due to the inability of your heart to deal fast heart rate. Since you have only aortic valve abnormalities - it would be recommended for you to get a valve replacement as early as possible.

Hello dear High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

It is true that levels of oxygen are lower at higher altitudes ,even within aeroplanes but with new technology the oxygen levels within plane are okay. low levels of oxygen do trigger a heart attack. let him carry a small portable oxygen cylinder with him and breathe oxygen within plane without asking the crew for it ,though they do have it as all of us are aware about emergency situations , oxygen masks are dropped but why bother. there should be no difficulty in taking permission but do make everything very clear so that he does not face problems at airport during clearance.
